Anyone ever owned or heard stories about this car? How reliable is it ... about how long can I expect to to last?

Thanks.

From what I understand they are good cars, but need constant upkeep and parts are expensive.

bmw offers free maintenance, so upkeep shouldn't be a problem.

My dad drives one that he's had for a few years. Once it's out of warranty, you're fucked. He just had to spend $1800 on a brake job because that was the only way he could get the service engine light to go off. Can't get a smog certificate to register your car out here in California with a service engine light that stays on, even if it has nothing to do with the exhaust.

Used BMW's are for douchebags.

Right at the 40 sec mark in this video sums it up.

If you get one, learn how to do a brake job, fix suspension, shocks, trace electrical problems, and countless other things.

And get ready to pay $$ just for an oil change. Those silly filters are on top of the engine.

My wife had an all wheel drive and it turned out to be a good car for her (smaller frame). I thought it was a tight fit for me. It turns on a dime! BMW maintenance is very well regarded and covers quite a bit but we never had problems for the two years we owned it.

I drive around a lot ... so it may not the best way to go, I know parts are expensive .. I used to have an older BMW but it caused me a few problems ... I thought maybe the new models could last over 200K with minimal problems.

So its basically not worth it without a warranty?

Jap car for reliability.

Nazi cars are for people with more money then they know what to do with it.

I once heard a BMW referred to as a "Nazi Sled" and thought it was really funny.

Don't even consider buying one without a warranty. Get a Japanese car.

BMWs and Benzes are fine as new cars. Once they get older, big money to fix.

If you can afford to get a new one on a lease and then turn it back in, fine.
Buying a used one is an iffy proposition at best.

Had a 2001 325ci for 3 years and had mixed emotions when I sold it; loved to drive it (as they say, nothing drives like a BMW) - however, I'm pretty sure I had the most poorly assembled vehicle on the planet with that car, as it spent more time in the shop than in the garage of my home.

Massive love/hate relationship with that car. Figure one day when I can have a "third" car, I'll get another, but not for daily driving... back to the Acura I went, and couldn't be happier.

Its not worth it without a warranty. Also not worth it if you actually need to use your car to go places, because it will spend more time in the shop than out of it.

'06 Acura RSX S-type, basically a civic that looks decent. i will probably still be driving it for another 7-8 years. drives VERY well, good on gas, love the car. if you want a more upscale vehicle that's reliable look into the infiniti G-35 coupe. i think they're priced about 35k.

The wife had a G35 coupe a couple of years ago; nowhere near worth the price IMO - it's a fun little go-cart to race around in and looks great on the outside, but the inside is merely disguised, cheap Nissan-y plastic everything. I was sorely disappointed in the finish of the car overall, but again - a blast to drive.

Ive had a bunch ff Bmw's (3), mostly mid to late 90's and never had all these problems you guys talk about... and ive even needed regularly scheduled maintenance and it wasnt that expensive. Granted i can do a few things myself, but Im too lazy sometimes.

Spare yourself some grief, stick with Honda, Toyota, or Nissan. Of course, any one of their "luxury" lines is included - Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti.

One can get killer deals on new and/or certified used today due to the shitty economy.

We bought an Accord about 6 weeks ago and I've been checking the dealer's site and they still have all the same other certified used cars on the lot that they had when we bought ours. This is the biggest Honda dealer in the area and it appears they aren't selling alot of cars. They're all hurting out there.

If you want a reliable car in the same class as a BMW or Mercedes, buy a Lexus or Acura. German cars are fun to drive, not so fun when they break down. And I do mean WHEN instead of IF.

I believe the Lexus ES 300 would be the equivalent to a 3-class Bimmer.

yea there cool. i couldn't' pass this car up, its high millage but, the body is in great shape no rot (and boy did they rot) and the interior is in great shape the drivers seat is ripped but the rest of the seats are perfect, a little dry but nothing that a good rubbing with mink oil and saddle soap wont fix even the dash isn't cracked. every thing works (that i tried) and the damn car even runs.... blows steam like a power washer but still runs. its cute i want to use it as a beater and save some gas
