The Jared WTF thread makes me think... I've never bought jewelry for a girl. Part of it is cause I've only been truly in love with someone once and have only been in a few serious long term relationships. But mainly it's cause it seems like buying something so trivial for a woman in order to get her affection would taint the relationship permanently. I think unless you're raising kids together money should play as small a role in a relationship as possible.

How abouts you, ever buy jewelry for a girlfriend / wife? Is it proper to do so?

Luckily my chick already has a shitload of jewelry so all I have bought her is her engagement ring and wedding band...

My husband has bought me a ruby ring (well, we bought that together), an emerald necklace and emerald earrings in addition to my wedding ring and the ring we bought when my daughter was born. He's bought me other stuff too, but not over $200.

Other than an engagement and wedding ring....nope.

Chicks that like lots of jury tend to be cunty and uppity.

If you have a good personality and can find the clitoris, no need for jury.

Are you dating Mr. T?

Yes I 'Every' did. And I'm currently single so those weren't exactly investments in intelligence, obviously.

I'm positive that I bought an emerald ring for one ex-girlfriend and I think I bought a pair of earrings for another. Back in day, I was a big softee when it came to giving gifts. I'm not sure I would do it again for another girlfriend though, unless its an engagement ring.

Have you learned completely nothing from life?

I've bought my gf some very nice jewlery, but the one piece she wants she's not getting.

I should have added that given my views on marriage, then the chances of me buying an engagement ring are slim to none.

yes, every year i buy my old lady jewelry for christmas, i like to only buy "craft" or artisan jewelry or stuff that i know who made it, i never buy shit from "chain" jewelry stores, i also pick up a lot of stuff at antique shops.... it comes from being an art fag, for the lasts couple of years ive bought her different tennis bracelets, im not a big fan of diamonds, so ive put that one off, but ive bought several "ensemble" for her instead, she did piss me off one year though, i bought her 7 diamond earrings ranging from about 8th caret up two a pair of 1/2's... she didn't like the settings or the color.... cost me about 1k, the most expensive thing ive ever bought her was that fucking boston terrier..... i should have bought the diamond tennis bracelet, oh and her engagement ring cost me 250$ at an antique store in rehobeth beach, i made up for it with a diamond wedding band on our wedding day...... yea im a sucker for shiny things, that and if i have to i can swallow most of it and keep it from getting into the hands of the savages

I think the most expensive jewelery I got was a Movado. Maybe the silver & gold Tiffany necklace I have cost about the same, but that was from family.

Spending about $1600 right now for an engagement ring for my hunny now. She's definitely worth it.

One of the reasons I fell for the vicious life-sucking bitch from which there is no escape was because she didn't like diamonds. Boy did that change.

My take is this: if you’re so worried about your wife or girlfriend getting spoiled that you refuse to buy her anything nice, you are absolutely with the wrong person or just cheap. There are plenty of women who do not equate money with love.

Those commercials are perpetuating a stupid stereotype. Yes, everyone likes to get nice things from time to time but the crap they show is those commercials is just playing into men’s fears. Most educated women I know despise those commercials as well.

On a side note if you really want to impress a girl a small, random gift just to show her you appreciate her is going to mean a hell of a lot more to her than a diamond ring on Christmas.

Just bought a 400 dollar Tiffany bracelet for my girlfriend. 2 years next Sunday. How the fuck she puts with me is beyond me. So sometimes she deserves a gift or two.

Old thread. I used the search function!
