I lost my job nearly four weeks ago and I can't find shit. I got unemployment but I'm worried I won't find a job by the time it runs out.
I've sent hundreds of resumes online, I've gone to companies in a suit with a stack of resumes. NOTHING. FUUUUUUUUCK I'M NERVOUS.
I'm losing my mind. Any help would be appreciated.
I think leaving Ohio might be the best option, how's the job markets in other places?
(I have a Bachelor's in Management and I taught at a college.)

I'm in the same boat. I was layed off the last week of September and there has not been squat in my field. The only bites I'm getting are out of State. I just sent an application to some place in Nevada, and I live in Michigan.

It's absolutely fucking horrible out there right now. I've got 3 months of emergency unemployment left and have submitted to a shitload of openings and nothing. I've got a substantial sales backround but fuck sales in this economy, only commission only positions from all sorts of screwy ass companies out there. Company that laid me off just laid off 320 more last week and will most likely be laying off a ton of people between Christmas and New Years to wash the people off the books to finish out their fiscal year, douch bags.
Keep your head up and just keep looking. Network with everyone you know to see if they can assist you in finding something.
There are tons of 32 hour part time (really? these trolls are basically looking to shove full time responsibilty onto a part time position and shaft you w/no benefits) and contract positions, hiring freezes at decent solid companies are also making it extremely difficult to find a good job.

Not me. But then, I'm only looking for stuff to make money over some time, not a career. My career isn't going to be one that's going to be tough getting into. It's just gonna take a lot of passion and effort on my part to keep myself in there and moving up.

It's been bad for longer than a couple months. I just landed a retail manager job about a month ago, and I spent the previous year looking everywhere from Delaware to Philly to the nearby areas of Jersey. I have a bachelor's in criminal justice, but since the police only test at certain times, you can't just walk into the station and ask for a job.
I worked for an MRI place for 4 years, did tons of retail before that, made it through college in only 4 years...none of that mattered.

We get plenty of calls asking if we'll take more freight, just don't have the resources (trucks, & trailers, not to mention good drivers) to handle it all.

I guess I'm lucky. My job is pretty damn secure, and I've been here since I graduated college.
One thing that I've been told and heard over and over again is that the average job search lasts 6 months, so don't give up, keep your options open, and in the mean time, try to make ends meet by looking for PT work, or something seasonal.
My own feeling is, there is no job that is "beneath" me if I am currently unemployed. I got to McDonald's and Burger King all the time, and while I wouldn't want to sling burgers, I don't think it's "beneath" my dignity... In the mean time maybe you should see if the All Advantage toolbar is still around and paying you to surf.

I've been out of work going on a year and a half. The Casino Industry is taking it on the chin big time. However I saved quite a bit and am financially secure even with the Stock market in the shitter. I feel for the wack baggers that are attempting to pay bills with little room left on the life line rope. The emergency unemployment (seven weeks) hopefully will help. In the meantime if I decide to come back out of retirement I intend to reinvent myself and change careers and go into a tech job that has a good future, is needed locally, pays well and will not be subject to lay offs.

I was unemployed for for 6 months...didn't get unemployment because the fuckers I worked for lied about the circumstances of my firing. I maxed out my credit cards and finally, thankfully, moved back home to Pa. (Otherwise I would have been Homeless)
I worked for a landscaping company for 6 months. Boss is a good guy. Basically told me I can take unemployment for 6 months, then come back and work again.
Mowing lawns is not reallly what I want to do, so I went down and started the process to get $$ from the government to get trained in something else.

Grant? Or loan? I'd apply for a grant if they were available, I wouldn't feel bad about bank bailouts if I could get a little one for myself..

Luckily, Recertifying my EMT will only be 500. Then I can work, get health benefits, and return to get my Paramedic.

For some reason, the biggie is Trucking..althought they are pushing the health careers a lot too.
There is a whole list of things that can help you here in Pa...And they stressed that it was in all the other states as well.
The career link/Job service here has some great resources to help people, they even help people get Pell Grants, and other financial aid if they want to return to college.

I'm glad I do a skilled trade for a living. I'm pretty much a millwright, but I mostly do pipe fitting, welding and am a licensed crane operator. And right now the company I work for has more work than we can handle so I'm not really worried about losing my job. Oh, and like Tall Baby, I've never been married and no fucking kids.

I got laid off at the end off September and I haven't had any luck. I'm trying to get on at the Police Department here but it is a long process. I'm worried about my unemployment running out as well. If it does I guess all I can do is file for a extension and hope for the best. Good luck in your search.

Not bad here either. People aren't buying new cars so they are willing to

Better than getting into new car payments and higher insurance costs.

I am pretty lucky. I got laid off the Friday before Thanksgiving from a scumbag Jew company that I had been working for the last year. They recruited me for 10 years, then the shit hit the fan and they cut a few reps and I won the lottery.
As of right now I am weighing two offers and will be starting one of the gigs on Monday. I will probably pull a bit of a raise out of it, as well as, landing with a better company.

I was laid off back in late July, but got in here about two weeks later. I supply cheap snow throwers in a shit economy. Customer service/repairs, and warehouse stuff.

Ass munch - The drink business is alive and kicking. Two years running right now. The last two weeks actually allowed me more time to dedicate to it. It is what has paid the bills the last two weeks.
I have also stated over and over on this board, that I am not a fan of my 8.4 oz product. I do, however, enjoy the 2 oz shots regularly. They are sugar free which is important as I continue on my weight loss journey.
I am sure you will bring that up next, I am down just about 70 lbs right now and since I have had more gym time, I am really building some great endurance. My resting heart rate is down over 20 beats form six months ago.

For those of you who are new/don't remember...................................
...................................a little over a year ago, I left a dead end job pushing shopping carts around a Home Depot parking lot. I'm finally starting to look for a job again. I'm looking for a mailroom job. Right now, I have just about 17 months experience working in mailroom. I'm hoping it's not that hard to find something. Right before I left Home Depot, I got my own apartment. For just about a year, I had to borrow money from my parents to pay my bills. Looking for a job really sucks.

I am currently waiting for my Unemployment in PA. to kick in..almost a month. I was using the $$ from Montana to go back to school..Until I get the $$/Grant for classes, but that money is drying up fast, and Classes Re-start in January.
And Yes, I am Highly educated..Two Degrees Undergrad...3 credits and a thesis (which is already done, but costs 12,000 to present and get credit for.) from a masters. Apparently, I have no Job skills. Which I found funny, since I had been working in multiple jobs outside of coaching for almost 20 years.

What he said.
My company just layed off 12% yesterday. We have a small company, so that's 65 people. Thankfully, there was only one person from the my department (field service) that got it and he was apparently not in the best graces of the company.
The rest of them were from HQ.
Looks like I might be getting promoted to a higher level in the next few months to replace the one guy that got laid off.

But you're the wrong color and don't live in the right area. My advice is to pack up and move to North Philly.
I'm lucky to work for the most profitable group in the most profitable division of the company. All they are asking of us is to try and minimize overtime, which I already do.
We're kind of like rock stars in the eyes of other people at the corporate HQ. Another thing is that we get left alone as long as we do our jobs and don't cause problems.

Good luck guys.
The only reason I still have a job is because last year I volunteered for a compliance role no one in my department wanted. The job is very demanding but I knew the possibility of massive layoffs was coming. I survived three cuts this year and fortunately no one in my role at our other sites has bitten the dust. There was some good news however, I had the immense pleasure of seeing a former cunt of a co-worker walk around in a daze as it dawned on him that he was out of a job. You could practically see the ego deflate out of him as he realized his ability to be a pain in the ass outweighed his talent for sucking up and backstabbing. I particularly enjoyed the fact that he was bragging about his new Infinity just weeks before he got the news. We all knew these cuts were coming by then but he just couldn't help himself. I genuinely hope he winds up sucking dick for change behind a Greyhound station at some point.
