I realize now that I bought a POS cell charger for my car (link (http://www.wackbag.com/showthread.php?t=100789)), and I now need a new charger. If I'm gonna spend money on a new charger that I know won't fuck with my car, I might as well go ahead & see if I can go solar instead. I currently have a window in my office (not always direct sunlight, at least not this time of year), so my plan would be to charge it while I'm at work instead of while driving, and still have the option of maybe using the solar charger in the car if needed.
I just got the Samsung Glyde, and do use the GPS feature, so I have to have some sort of portable charging. The GPS just eats up the charge.
FezMan did suggest this (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=41427). I'm open to suggestions on products, how to compare, what I should look for, etc. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?
Thanks again for all the help!

I've bought from these guys off Ebay before. Real fast shipper. Don't think you need a Paypal account either, you can just pay with CC/Debit card. They've been around for years. $7.50 including shipping.

That's for an original Samsung brand car charger. The same one you'll see in the Verizon store for $30-$40. Stay away from the generics.

GPS does suck the battery dry...Just stick with the ciggy lighter... you shouldn't have any more probs... you just blew a fuse... It coulda been worse... Blowing a seal tastes awful and can lead to other bad sexual habits.

if you're looking for one for the office and can't find an outlet, how about a USB Charger? or are you looking for solar to use at work AND in the car....
Absolutely

Can't you just charge it at home, in an outlet?
I don't know how much GPS drains it, I don't use it. My Blackjack seems to stay charged forever.
It takes like 30-45 minutes in the outlet, and I'm good to go for a week or so. I never turn it off.

Here's how bad the batter drain is on this phone: I fully charged it 24 hours ago. I think I sent a couple text messages. Talked for about 5 minutes. For some reason I'm down to 1/2 the battery. I know the cost to charge the phone is minuscule, but why not go solar at this point, as long as it's available?
It's also the reason I charge the phone in the car...why pay for the electricity at home/work when I can charge for free in the car?
(Yeah, I'm totally penny pinching in the wrong areas. :) )
Absolutely

Sounds like your phone sucks balls.
24 hours of charging, and half the battery is drained after a few texts and a phone call?

I don't know how bad it sucks...sometimes I can go days without charging it. I'm trying to figure out if I had it in my pocket. Since it has a touch screen, sometimes it reacts when it's in my pocket (and using up the battery without my knowing it). I'm pretty sure the first day I had it, it accidentally dialed my friend's house, and left a message of my trip to the ladies room. DOH!

I upgraded to that phone.

Hated it.

Sounds like you might need a firmware update. When did you get the phone? In November Verizon released a firmware update that fixes touchscreen issues. There's a fix to make sure the phone stays locked in your pocket. Take it to a Verizon store and they can do the update for you, otherwise you may brick your phone.

Are you in the taliban? Work in a cave? what's the matter with just plugging it in to the wall?
good luck
solar shouldn't have to be in direct sunlight to work, just like on cloudy days, it still will work by indirect light
