For me, I can honestly say my life would have turned out differently without O&A. I had thoughts and opinions that I always kept to myself before I was ever exposed to the show; that I never shared. I would have a line but it might have been unpopular or rude. But once I found the show, and wackbag, I found a community of black swans that were as cynical and opinionated as I was; for better or worse.
Without the O&A radio show and the community of people that listen to it, I would have been a closeted douche bag. Never really having the courage to express the unpopular opinions I have.
This is why I love the show and hold Opie as my hero, not because I'm drunk.
Right now the show is still live on FM and XM radio and anyone who was around for the down time knows how thantastic that is. And I feel now is the time to say thank you to O&A and ask, "would you be the same person without the show".
God damn, I love this fucking show... no homo.

Well I still think its the Collin Quinn gang that changed my life with tough crowd. Collin, Patrice, Jimmy, DiPaolo, Vos, Robinson, Geraldo and bawbie helped me further see through the bullshit of everyday and the bullshit of people. No one can cut down and deconstruct a person like Jimmy, Collin and Patrice. They are verbal barbarians who can tear you to bits with hardly even a ounce of effort, Collin does it so beautifully and with such precision that its almost an art form.

Yeah, I can honestly say I became a huge Jim Norton fan as a result of Tough Crowd and found his blog online. I didn't know what Opie and Anthony was but he spoke so highly of how much he had missed the show I had to check it out when they got on XM. With that said though I would be lost without the radio show and would definitely flush my XM down the toilet if it wasn't for the bbboys and Ron and Fez.

The thing about me is that despite enjoying this type of humor, at the end of the day I am just not a cynical person.
And yes, I think you can be snarky or ironic without being cynical and bitter.
It's just jarring to see so many folks here speak/post in that cynical tone.

I definitely was different before O&A. My sense of humor and appreciation for stand up comedy has gotten a lot better. There's a bunch of little things the boys have said that I've implemented in my every day life. I used to feel bad when someone was being inconvenienced, now I soak it in and openly laugh. An uncomfortable situation is what I wish for. O&A made me love the awful parts of life.

O and A are the only ones I can think of that do radio the way they do. Even Stern from what I know is not willing to go with some of the material the boys are. I always hear people say that O and A are racist compared to stern and that just makes me think Stern is a coward who won't address things like a man because if you talk like a man in the media your labeled a racist/sexist/some kinda -ist.

It would be brutal without OnA/RnF during my workday since I spend so much time driving in a car. I remember when they got booted and how awful my commutes home were listening to Mike and the Mad Dog on slow news days or the same music ad nausem. It is also good when I take long trips to visit the family on weekends out in bumblefuck I feel some anchor to civilization listening to the boys.
I do notice that I view comedy in general much more cynically after listening to the guys for so long. I tend to have no patience for safe, family approved comedy anymore.

We all tend to forget what it was like without the show.
I got a big dose of reality during the 30 day "suspension" from XM in 2007.
I was fucking misarable without the XM show. The FM portion wasnt enough.
I love Ant and Jimmy (no homo) because they make me laugh, but its Opie's way of looking at things that changed me.

No doubt these guys changed my life. I was introduced to them when they first came to Philly during the NEW days. That was some of the most unbelievable radio I had ever heard . I was definitely in hell when they were in radio purgatory before the XM days. No radio show has motivated me to write congressmen, government agencies, and put up billboards. No doubt, I found that I'm not the only cynical, derogatory prick out there. Now I look at my family with the same disdain when they don't get one my insider O&A jokes, that they used to me when they didn't approve of my sense of humor those politically correct pukes!

Probably not. O+A was a major part of my high school experience in evolving my personality. R+F too, as they kept me up until 3 am on weekdays. When both shows were off NEW I'd be lying if I didn't say I felt something was missing. I spend far more hours a day than I should listening to OARF. And of course the message boards which have given me a desperately needed outlet and have made my isolation and compulsive behavior a bit more bearable.
O+A have also introduced me to new comedians while R+F have introduced me to new music, movies and literature.

And i have to agree with what lrrhoade said

Anthony, Jimmy, both have made me laugh at things i would never thought i would find funny 5 years ago. I can always count on having a laugh when i come home if my day sucks, which is a nice thing.
Opie, Jimmy, and Anthony's views on different topics have changed my views on things for the better, some way say it was for the worst but i tend to disagree.
The show has inspired me to become a producer and go into either television or Radio. That is still far down the road, considering i am still in high school.
I have less of a tolerance for shitty, safe, family oriented humor.

Well said. I have to say the same. Being an O&A fan has had it's ups and downs for me personally, but the positives outweigh the bad. I've only been listening to them since about a year after they came to XM so I am still catching up with material from the WNEW days.
But I have to say through the O&A community I've had a far more social life then I ever thought I'd have, it's brought me out of my shell big time, made me a stronger person. There's been some assholes I've come across like you said, but the boys themselves have always been great when I've met them, I've gotten into the "cringe humor" genre of comedy. I was always a standup comedy fan but didn't get exposed to the more "raw" stuff until I started hearing the different comedians on the show and seeing them in person.
My crush on Jim Norton came about after him making me laugh on the show, any guy who makes Clockwork Orange references I love. :)
Plus they get me through my work day. I work with a bunch of idiots, one of which who sits right across from me and if it was before 1987 she's not familiar with it. I have to hear her incessant babbling throughout the day about the most mundane shit like shitty television shows, sales going on in local stores, etc. I sit with my headphones, turn up the volume and listen to the boys and laugh through the day and it keeps my sanity big time.

In addition to a lot of what's been posted already, my love of the show and the comics drastically hastened the demise of likely doomed relationship of 5+ yrs. I guess she was more of the stereotypical 'hole' than I thought she was... and couldn't relate to anyone who preferred that type of humor. On top of that, after getting into the show, I seldom thought any of her comments were funny every again. And the humor the show brings was huge in getting over that failed relationship, and every other one since.

I'd most likely be married, miserable, and clueless as to why. Not because of ant's rants about his ex, but because of the way the show opens your eyes against the cloud of political correctness and (in the oldern days of the show, at least), conformity.

I can honestly say I'd be worse off if it weren't for O&A, Yimmy, Patrice, et al.
When they were still on the FM side, I'd listen on the train during my morning commute and laugh. Everyone around me was miserable fucks and would stare at me. For Laughing. O&A got me to view people in a much different light -- as the mundane, complacent sheep that most of them are. Jimmy's rants and (as someone earlier in the thread) how he "deconstructs people" got me to be a much more open person (still need to learn that whole tact, thing). I finally got the balls to tell people what's on my mind, cuz hell, if Jimmy can do it, so can I. Damn, I'm ranting.

My wife says since I discovered O&A in 2005 (I got XM in my new Avalanche) she says my humor which was already pretty cutting has really gotten funnier and at times meaner.
She will laugh her ass off at one of my observations when I see a retard or some other disaster in public, but at the same time tell me to stop being mean.....while laughing of course. I also have learned how to tell somebody off a lot better because of Jimmy. I go straight for the jugler now, and am RELENTLESS.
The other day we were at the sporting goods store that has an indoor ferris wheel and somebodys pet retard (had to be in his 20's) was going ape shit because he didn't want to leave the store. He was screaming in "retardese" that he didn't want to leave and had a hold of a handrail. There were about a dozen people watching this happen, and I turned and looked at my wife "oh shit, with his super-retard strength that genetic disaster won't let go until they show him something shiny".
About half the people that heard me laughed out loud. One acted disgusted, and my wife laughed and then got mad at me for being mean.
Without O&A I may have said "oh dear, that mentally challenged person is very upset. We better move along so his parents don't get embarrassed."

Still the same nice guy I always was but has learned to enjoy and appreciate the dark side of humor more thanks to O&A. And also feel better when I see things going on in SOOCIETY that bother me but the media and the rest of the world deems ok and normal and then O&A come on and say it's not ok and says pretty much what I'm feeling. Makes me feel like I'm not alone.
Also I'm always using little catchphrases from the show. Got people from my job saying stuff like "OK TERRIFIC" and "TEE HEE HEE" cause I'm always saying it. And it always to make people laugh and bring levity to a situation.
To be honest, been a fan since 98 when they came to NYC. Didn't jump on right away on to XM when they went there in 2004. Had this girl break my heart in 2005 and was feeling depressed and like "What do I do?". So I went and got my XM online sub right after that to see if the boys could help. Let me tell you how good it felt hearing "Ecstacy Of Gold" and then the boys live for the first time in over two years. It helped me get over it a while lot quicker.
Now when I think of that girl I wonder "What would lil Jimmy do?"
Would I be the same without O&A? No way.

I'm the same person now that I was before I "found" O&A. Actually, no, that's not true. But the changes in my life have nothing to do with a radio show. The O&A show is but a small portion of my life & has slowly become even smaller. There's an entire world out there that requires leaving my radio & leaving my computer in order to experience & enjoy.

Some of it is pretty silly.
Personally, the answer is that if you watch or listen to a show long enough you will pick up some of the sayings, mannerisms, and tone of said show. You also might learn to appreciate different things or constantly tell people that you wish they fell in a puddle of aids (L-O-L).
However, I was a bitter asshole before I regularly listened to O&A and I will remain a bitter asshole after they are off the air.

I think perhaps even O&A would think this would be gay.... but then again I think they would still like the few fans that they have.....
I started listening in high school during the WNEW era and pretty much became an instant fan, but it was a couple years later with the 9/11 shows that they won my loyalty. Those few hours in the afternoon were the only part of the day when I could get my mind off that foul burning stench in the air.

I listen constantly when I'm on the road. I have picked up a lot of things from them. "Get out of my way" being my favorite to say/sing. I did pick up a Sirius about a year after Howard went over there and listened for a month or so, but even though I was a longtime Howie fan I couldn't let go of O&A and happily maintained my XM sub. I have had XM nearly from the start but it sucked before O&A and R&F really. With a few exceptions, one being Art Bell, XM blew. 202 is the reason I am here still, 8 years of XM and counting. If for some reason 202 changes I won't likely keep paying. Seriously I can't find any other reason to keep the service. Without O&A I would not know about Bob Kelly, Rich Vos, Bill Burr. Yeah I wouldn't be the same and hope they continue for a long time.

Absolutely not. Especially not since Jimmy joined the rankings years ago. Over the past decade, an increasing number of friends have told me that I am probably the most vulgar and grotesque person they have ever met, both with my words and with the visual images I depict.
I can certainly say that if it weren't for O&A and Jimmy, I would probably be a very cordial and eloquent person.
Anyway, I know the guys really aren't doing the "Pendulum" contest much anymore, but I called in with Instant Feedback on Monday, and Opie recognized my name and said on the air that he was honored to hear from me since he loved my remix. Check it out if you guys get a chance and let me know what you think, it's the first song at my MySpace:

yes. its a radio show. it starts. you listen. it ends. life continues.
Yes, nobody said its the be all and end all of your existence, it just seems that fans of O&A are effected from listening to their opinions, interests, and sense of humor.

Totally agree with you, Djeter... nobody's saying it's the "be all end all", but our tastes in humor, movies, music, etc., define who we are. And if it weren't for the ridiculous antics of Opie, Ant, and Jimmy, my humor wouldn't be as ridiculous as it is today. I still live my life normally - only with a few more laughs (or cringes, from those who find my humor sickening).

Check out my "Pendulum" remix! Opie gave it props on the air on Monday, said he loved it, and that he was honored to have me call in with some Instant Feedback. Maybe if they ever go back to the contest, they'll give it a play. It's the first song at my MySpace below:

If it wasn't for "the great" Jay Mohr calling the American Idol publicist a cunt I would still be listening to Bob and Tom "UUCK!" Because of O&A I'm not afraid to laugh at retards and the worst situations in the world. I use a lot of the boys crutches in everyday life. No one gets them but i sure get a laugh at it. I also took Anthony's advice and calling your significant other a cunt sure does change the conversation. Radio in the midwest sucks, and thanks to XM I have something to listen and enjoy when I'm driving to work. Thanks a lot Boys and no homo

Well if it wasn't for O&A I probably wouldn't be listening to any radio at all. I gave up on terrestrial radio long before they came back and I don't listen to talk shows much. Maybe I'd be more into the music scene since I would have needed something for the drives to work. But in the last few years, I went from driving to taking the train to work to now living 3 miles from my job, so I can't say I'd even be listening to the music. Maybe I'd move into audiobooks. I dunno.
I do know that without O&A my SUV would have been bought with a radio that I could set up my MP3 player to if a radio at all. O&A have kept me entertained at work and at home which is more than I can say for anything else available. Without them, radio would have dropped off my radar altogether.

Before O&A radio was just something I listened to occasionally in the car, now I listen in the car, I listen on the computer, I listen on DirectTV, I download shows, etc. I listen to 5 hours per day almost every day. O&A have made me a radio-a-holic.
My wife and I talk over dinner and during our conversations I am almost always bringing up one topic or another from either that day's show, or a show in the recent past. The topics that the show talks about range so far and wide and are usually at some point relevant to the news of the day that the views presented, while not always the same as my own, tickle my fancy, so to speak, and I quote some of it just to see what she has to say. The same goes with friends and co-workers.
I find myself having to watch what I say in polite company as well. A lot of the show-centric stuff creeps into my vocabulary unless I'm careful, then I have to explain and thats a pain, not to mention gets me strange looks.

I've been listening to O&A for about 2 and 1/2 years. When I was in high school they were on in Cleveland during their NEW days, but I never listened to them because this one faggot who only got laughs quoting Family Guy and South Park listened to them. It wasn't until I was driving home from my last day of college in 06 when I heard them on tape delay with the Big A & Twitchels doing the news. At first I didn't know what to think of it. I didn't think it was funny, at first, and I didn't think it was outrageous. That was a few months after they got back on terrestrial and Opie kept saying how the show was a virus and it may take a little bit, but you'll catch it and be infected, and that completely describes the show for me. I was always the person who would push a joke over the edge in my group of friends, it was rarely funny, but I always loved making **** jokes and just making people uncomfortable. I hated censorship with a passion and wrote two essays on the removal of FCC instated censorship before I even knew what O&A were all about. I would listen to Rover in high school and sincerely thought it was a good radio show. I would watch Comedy Central stand-up and genuinely enjoy it, even if I didn't find it funny. I would watch sitcoms and ignore the laugh track. Now, I listen to Rover and see what a pompous fag he really is. I watch Comedy Central stand-up and say to myself, "What was Louis C.K. thinking with this half-hour when he did Shameless and Chewed Up?" I watch sitcoms and wonder why they put such a loud laugh over such a nothing joke. Like someone said earlier, Tough Crowd is responsible. I watched it every night after the Daily Show and thought it was a brilliant show. I have O&A on my iPod every day and listen to it at work, and I just started putting R&F on there too. Before O&A, I was asshole who would make a genuinely funny joke once every week or so. Now, I'm just an asshole who makes jokes for my own laughter and if people make a disgusted face or groan, I know that it was a good joke. I freely say "faggot" and "cunt" and in the confines of my car "******." But without O&A, I wouldn't know how to properly convey a point to defend why I say those things. And I know Opie isn't the punchline guy, but his actions of asshole-ishness, totally make him a vital part of the show. And Op, no one cares if you say "intresting" instead of "interesting."

I love the show... I remember, when I started listening, it must've been like 2004... They were on air in Dallas, and the show replaced a show that I liked... I was pissed off, but I listened. And I was hooked instantly, and haven't missed hardly ONE show since.

Because of Opie & Anthony, Jimmy, Patrice, etc., I'm listening to better comics these days. Before I became a fan, I would laugh at horrible shit on the inside and then reproach myself for it. Now I've accepted the fact that I am a piece of garbage and laugh openly. Thanks to O&A, I'm now a proud member of the Cringe Humor genre.

Without the O&A radio show and the community of people that listen to it, I would have been a closeted douche bag. Never really having the courage to express the unpopular opinions I have.
Did you listen to Stern before you found O&A?
I did, Stern turned me off when it started to become clear what a dickbag power happy liar he was. He actually turned me on to O&A.

OA are to me are like the daily show is for alot of people. They give the news with an honest opinion spiked with cringe inducing humor. My favorite entertainment medium used to be videogames now I almost always listen to OA while playing games. I always used to feel guilty when I put my foot in my mouth, now I love it. They are how I stay in touch with the news and make work go by faster.
Been listening since I was 14. I'm 22 now. If it weren't for the show I wouldn't have the passion for comedy that I do now. For better or worse, my interests would probably be very different if I had never become a fan. And no matter how my interests change in the future, I'll always have love for the bbbboys because of that.

When I heard O & A on WAAF their first day(s) I hated them. I wanted Liz Wilde back.
But they grew on me and in time I loved them more than I did Hoo Hoo. BAMMMM, fired from WAAF.
They came back later on WBCN in the afternoon, life was more gooder again. BAMMMM, fired from all radio. Damn it! I was sooo depressed because it was right at this time I very important relationship ended and now my few hours of escape had been fired over a stupid Sex For Sam stunt.
They signed with XM and within days I bought a SkyFi and signed up to XM.
A year ago yesterday, I was in Canada for two weeks. I was stuck in traffic, lost in Montreal where I can't speak a word of French, stressing and in a light panic situation. Just prior to 3:00, I realized it was time for that day's replay. Thank God. I had a piece of home with me with three family voices, Opie, Anthony & Jimmy.
I survived the two weeks in a hospital, thankful for XM online & O&A, because I had them there, just as if I was home.
It's just a radio show. I've only meet them briefly. But between January 24 and February 7, 2008, the Opie & Anthony Show was hugely responsible for getting me through a very emotional time.
No, I would not be the same without O & A.

I've been hooked since the 1st day at WNEW (I was a Stern guy before that) and haven't looked back since. Since that's over 10 years, I really have no idea if it's significantly affected my life, but I would assume it has (not totally sure how though)
