So my sister, brother-in-law, and niece are coming to visit on Saturday. They'll be staying with my parents for about 3 weeks.
My mom gets it in her head that we should do a whirlwind tour of the extended (East Coast) family, going up to NYC to eat lunch with my grandmother, then driving from there to Boston to eat dinner with my aunt, spending the night there.
On Sunday, December 27th. The Sunday after Christmas. The big travel day after Christmas.
Into NYC from PA. Then from NYC to Boston. The second part during the afternoon.
Neither my sister nor brother-in-law have valid US drivers licenses (anymore- my sister's been overseas for about 10 years), so it's all me, in a car, with a crying baby, into then out of NYC on a crazy-ass travel day.
I fucking hate my family.

You may want to explain, in detail, how utterly fucking retarded that idea is.

I put my foot down..
No way am I hauling my bickering parents up to Maine, letting my Dad put the dog in a kennel, only to not be able to shit or sleep up at my condescending sister's house (which has a photo shoot in one of this month's chick mags.).
With the In-laws...
Fuck That! I'll stay here watching dad's dog!..That and do what I want!

The 27th is a Saturday, just sayin.
And that idea is horrible. You gotta say something.
Do it!
Life is short.
Show them how short and just aim for a ditch within a mile of the start.
That should learn them.
Second option, just drink heavily that night, all night and morning.

Just tell them no, they'll be pissed, but they'll get over it. If family was that important to them none of them would have moved.

Tell them to fuck off and tell your mom to get you a pot pie. All moms should shut the fuck up and just get pot pies.

Tell your sister to get here earlier so she can get her drivers license. BTW, isn't there some international drivers license thing? I never looked into it since I've only done a group tour in Ireland, but I thought you could get a temp one while on vacation in a foreign country?

The worst thing my parents made me do was go to Ikea with them when I was like 9.

My sister, like myself, was born in the US. She's just lived in China for the last 10+ years, so her driver's license has expired. Kind of hard to schedule that license renewal every few years when you're that far away.
The reason they're coming over for 3 weeks is a Chinese visa thing. Technically, foreigners (which my sister technically is) cannot get permanent residency status in China. Any foreigners who live and work in China are there on business visas and have to leave the country for a few weeks every year to renew their visas. It's a weird system, but it does mean that if you're a foreigner who works in China you get a MANDATORY vacation every year. You can't pass on it and cash the extra money: you have to leave the country and chill for a few weeks.
Plus, it's the first time in the States for my 8-month-old niece, for all that she's a US citizen (and French: dirty French brother-in-law). Lots of family that need to see her, spend time with her, and for her to detox from a steady diet of toxic baby formula and lead paint in all the toys that China keeps for their own kids...

I have a friend who lives in the Philippines. All he has to do is hop on a flight to Hong Kong or anywhere else close, land and wait while they refuel, then catch the return flight back. Philippines says good enough, you left the country and are good to go for another year.

Beans, Chili, stale beer, broccoli and whatever else gives you death gas farts. Then turn the child locks on the windows, set the AC to recycle and start driving.
You'll think your watching the funny scenes from Shindlers List from all the pleading and screaming you'll be hearing. Pay no attention to it. Some lessons must marinate.

So I don't get it...why not just renew the license when she comes back to the states so she isn't a burden on everyone? Inconsiderate bitch. :action-sm

I love this shit. I call them "family world tours"
My cousin came out here a few months ago from Seattle with two weeks notice. She was a little pissed when I told her I wouldn't be free until late November on her terms.
Nothing personal at all, but we're both disappointed that we didn't see each other. I don't tend to change plans quickly for family as a rule. I have allot of stuff going on in September.
I'm probably going to spend Xmas alone. Fuck 'em. I have a cat.
