Sometimes I wonder where Jimmys odd likes and dislikes stem from.. how do you like Sabbath and not classic VH... Its all kinda same time frame.
I can however understand one thing... looking back on things usually has a few cringe moments just because of things changing from the time it was happening..
But, Black Sabbath was so cool in 1968 you still get no cringe in 2008... amazing.
well, except Toni Iomi's hair in the war pigs video... ( shudder)....

Seriously - it's one of the best and most original bits they do.
Think about how funny it is to create an uncomfortable douchey scenario and jim just keeps on topping it and topping it and topping it with more and more douchey things.
i don't know if i've ever heard anything in comedy that compares to it. i guess "The Office" dwells in the uncomfortable area of humor, but this is a purely improvised scenario featuring celebrities. it's very unique and it may only work in radio.

Yay. What makes it so uncomfortable is that it is believable and you would not have been surprised if he were describing actually songs. Don't get me wrong, I loved Van Halen but there is a hookeyness to their videos and some of their songs. C'mon, Eddie's "whoah I'm shocked" face when he looks at his guitar while playing it or just about anything David Lee Roth does is silly. I would love to hear more Jimmy Van Halen lyrics recorded and put to music.

With all the back and forth that VH has done, Jimmy's "We're Back" is TOTALLY plausible.

true... they derailed themselves alot...
I guess I still hold on to how " fucking awesome" it was the time.
almost like picking on Ozzy or Dime to me.. VH was just a huge part of my life and mentality.
don't get me wrong ... I could make fun of a cripple trying to drink from a water fountain... but I gues.. in a kooky way . I liked VH's goofiness and hack. the pretty woman video.. the party type interiews.. good times in the 80's atleast they backed it up with great music... I think thats why I think it could be considered disrespectful...
Now Poison on the other hand gets accolades from mainstream. and they should be beheaded for hackiness and also sucking at music.
just playing devils advocate.

I couldn't agree with you more. The fun (or kookyness) attitude of VH was part of the fun.

I don't know about that. Classic VH is to me like Sabbath is to Jimmy and I really only know/like a handful of radio friendly Sabbath numbers (not Iron Man, for god's sake that song sucks) so I can see him not getting into VH.

Yea, it is surprising to me that Jimmy doesn't really like VH, and almost seems to dislike them a bit. I would have thought he would be more into them, but I guess it makes a bit of sense. Sabbath was a much darker, more serious band, and VH was always the big party band. Different vibe between the two. And for the record, Jimmy's VH routine rules. It was funny a year ago when he originally started it, and it still cracks me up. Anthony's cringing is the best.

With some of the dreck that Ozzy has put out,it seems a bit hypocritical for Yimmy to bash Van Halen.Maybe we could get Perry Mason on the case.

Because Black Sabbath rocked and Van Halen is douchy as hell. The man himself kicks ass on the guitar, but the retarded shit that band produces is aweful. How about you play music will balls and stop trying to be goofy?

How about you become a two dimensional person.
I can listen to Slayer one day and the Carpenters he next. .. I have a personality... with actual moods.
All I can say is this... If you asked me who I wanted to be in 1984 I would of said DLR.....I owned All the BLACK SABBATH 8-tracs & VH.
You can look back on lets say your own past hairstyles and probably cringe quite a bit... But in 1984 DLR was a bona fide fucking super star. Bigger than Ozzy ever was.
Ozzy has staying power because of how the world changed ( more doooom maaan) If America was still as fun as it was in 1984 DLR would probably still be on top.
Maybe thats the real question here. Has our society became increasingly more pessimistic and gloomy?
when I hear VH now I get nostalgic, BUT! I don't feel happy like I use to with VH1 on my boombox walking down the boardwalk in Seaside Heights.

Jimmy just probably hates VH cuz back in May of 1978 on their first world tour, VH was opening for Sabbath and blowing them off the stage every night.

The main draw to VH is Eddie's guitar playing. I do give it to Sabbath though they have proven themselves time and time again with various lead singers. VH isn't cornball 80's pop either even though Roth was a little over the top at times.
VH was just a huge part of my life and mentality.

How about no, very wrong.
Here's why Jimmy hates the Mighty VH.
after opening for Journey and Montrose for several months, they finished the tour supporting a weary Black Sabbath. Once the band found their rhythm, word quickly spread that Van Halen was tearing it up across the United States with an explosive show that was the exact opposite of the droll, drugged-out performances of many of the day’s top rock bands. Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath’s singer at the time, remarked many years later that Van Halen had a profound effect on him. "One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night," he said. "It was embarrassing."
Common knowledge that VH was destroying Sabbath when the were opening for them.
