I still buy cd's but I buy them used on amazon or ebay. I also use my Inno for recording songs I hear on XM.

Does anyone know a way that is more wallet freindly and wont give me 5-10 years.

Amazon has sales on their mp3 downloads all the time. You can get cheap albums for $5-8. They also have a nice downloader that takes care of saving the files.

I use torrents. The RIAA isn't suing people unless they're downloading thousands of songs per month, which I doubt anyone could possibly do for themselves.

I purchase them legally.

Just kidding.

I actually try and do the right thing and get them off iTunes. I refuse to buy an actual CD in the stores though. They are the biggest rip-offs and generally I only want a couple songs if not just 1. I'll preview it on iTunes and if I think it's decent I'll download it but then I'll purchase it if I really like it because I had the crappy quality you sometimes get with Limewire.

iTunes mostly

If I buy a CD, I'll copy it to iTunes and then sell the disc on eBay

I also borrow friends and family's CDs and copy them to my iTunes

If you're strapped for cash, you can rent them from your local liburry. Movies and books too... :action-sm

Somehow I doubt very highly that the library would have any of the music I listen to. I use torrents almost exclusively. Then I go see the bands I truly love and buy some merch.

I buy CDs from bands I really love and even then I only have five CDs from that mindset.

And another good thing about them too is that they're DRM free.

If I'm impatient and lazy, I use I-tunes. If I-tunes doesn't have it, then I buy the cd.

The other stuff but also Youtube Downloader. You throw in the url, it downloads the .flv file, you then convert the .flv file into an mp3 and you have your music without uploading or using a site that might get you in trouble. Provided the music is on Youtube this is what I do. I got a new computer in february and I haven't even downloaded a p2p program yet.

Soulseek is an excellent free app. I was able to get extremely rare bootlegs (like an early Led Zeppelin concert in Budokan - Robert Plant's voice was shot from the beginning and sounded HORRIBLE).

Zune.net. $15 a month for unlimited downloads.

I have a Napster2Go Sub. same $15 bucks for unlimited DLs and transfers to my 32GB Creative Zen.

I don't need to own music, I just need to listen to it when and where I want.

$15 bucks a month is an album and a half per month or 15 songs. That's 180 songs a year I could buy. In 10 Years, that's 1800 songs. With the subscription, you can download all 1800 songs on day 1. And keep them as long as you want. NOt to mention the fact that you're not beholden to the music you select. There's no let down after spending $10 for an album just to discover you never listen to it anymore. With a subscription, you can try all kinds of new shit and if you don't like it, fuck it, get rid of it and move on. Since you don't pay explicitly for any particular music, there's no guilt over the Money you spent on it or the Time / Risk you spent finding it to download illegaly. How everyone in the world isn't renting music now is beyond me. There are so many pros and hardly any Cons.

"but if you stop paying your music stops playing maaaaan"

Yeah, and If I don't pay my Fios bill, my tv stops working. I'm comfortable with that business model.

I take it their downloads are not compatible with an I-pod.

their downloads are DRM-Free MP3's just like you could rip with iTunes off of a CD. Just add the files to your iTunes library and they will sync to your ipod. All it takes is the extra step of adding them to iTunes.
