I'm interested in seeing your suggestions - itunes has a lot of offerings, but these are two i used to listen to over terrestrial.

Bloomington-based station, format is called "adult album alternative". I really like the playlist here...eclectic, with a songwriter/classic rock base. turns me on to new things.

also, for classic and traditional jazz, i go to www.wbgo.org

I used to listen to this before I got XM. I like the BBC channel.

Used to be Virgin Radio, but I guess they got bought out.

+1 for pandora.com

they've got a pretty extensive library and it's pretty good at predicting relevant songs.

This is a great locally owned and operated station on the North Coast of California that plays a steady stream of hippie music. It is KOZT - The Coast.

Another cool station that lies a bit further north and inland a bit is listener supported KMUD in the heart of Humboldt county (Garberville, CA.). The music is always changing every couple of hours depending on the show. The awesome thing is that during prime marijuana growing and harvest seasons the programming will be interrupted with community emergency alerts letting you know where pot eradication helicopters or any other federal anti-marijuana group is in the area and where they are headed. It's really cool.

I took a work trip to southern California and flew into San Diego back in 2000. I fell in love with 91 X (http://www.91x.com/main.html)
I don't know if they still play a good mix or Alternative anymore.
They had decent radio personalities and always gave a surf report hourly.
It was kind of a daily pick up for my dreary assed penn-ohio life at the time.
I haven't listened to them for a few years now.

I was doing the Pandora thing until I got XM... If they raise the reate liek they say I may just go back to Pandora.

I listen to a lot of CBC Radio 3, which follows the Canadian Alternative/Indie scene. The Verge on XM87 is similar to Radio3, but can't quite compare. The streaming feed they have on their website is the same feed they air on Sirius Canada. You can also catch it in the radio section of iTunes in the Alternative tab.

I usually leave their feed playing on one of my browser tabs, as they update the artist/song info on their website, but not on iTunes for some reason.

I been listening to Pandora all week, it blows away the SiriusXM stations and you can get it on mobile too

sirius should kiss the ass of any real original content like they have with o&A, RnF, Ellis, stern & others because they are the only reason to subscribe

Out of curiosity, are songs replayed very often on Pandora? Or is there a timed playlist?

I've been frequenting a bike shop who uses it for their in-store music. And for the past two weeks around the same time I've been in, I've heard the same song being played.

no you create your own stations by either band or song and they play similar styles according to how other pandora users agree (there is a like & dislike button)

today I made up a Brian Setzer Orchestra & a Ramones for example for band stations & Where Have All The Good Times Gone by VH as a song station

i change stations a lot so i dont get repetition, i wouldnt know if songs repeat a lot

I see.

I guess they must just keep it on the same station pretty regularly then.
