Queen Guitarist Didn't Know Freddie Mercury Was Gay (http://www.spinner.com/2008/12/22/queen-guitarist-didnt-know-freddie-mercury-was-gay/)

Brian May has claimed that for years he was unaware that Freddie Mercury was gay. The Queen (http://www.spinner.com/tag/Queen/) guitarist says that he and the band's frontman were very close -- especially in the early days of the band -- yet he was virtually clueless about the flamboyant singer's homosexuality because he had a number of girlfriends.

"No, I didn't know. I don't think even he was fully cognizant in the beginning," May told British newspaper The Daily Express. "You're talking to someone who shared rooms with Fred on the first couple of tours, so I knew him pretty well.

"I knew a lot of his girlfriends and he certainly didn't have boyfriends, that's for sure," added May, who recently earned a Ph.D. in physics. "I think there was a slight suspicion, but it never occurred to me that he was gay."

May also recalled that Mercury -- who died of complications from AIDS in 1991 -- had a tendency to avoid the issue of his sexuality when asked directly. He said, "I remember Freddie being asked if he was gay in one of his early interviews and he said, 'Yes, darling, of course. I'm as gay as a daffodil.' It was a neat way of sidestepping the issue because, actually, Freddie was no fool.

"I know that all through his life Fred didn't think that whether he was gay or not was important," May concluded. "He loved music, he love his work, and he didn't want anything to get in the way. Anyone who portrays Fred as purely a gay story is missing a lot of the point."
The name of the band was Queen, and you didn't know? Riiiiiiiight. And he's now a fucking rocket scientist!

I might have gone with the WTF forum. :icon_mrgr

Freddie had a girlfriend early on that he ended up being friends with for his entire life. Said she basically rooned it for him to have other women as serious relationships. He ended up leaving her his house and his music royalties to her. His boyfriend that wiped his arse in his final days got about as much as the help did.

In his will Mercury left the vast majority of his wealth, including his home and recording royalties, to Mary Austin, and the remainder to his parents and sister. He further left £500,000 to his chef Joe Fanelli, £500,000 to his personal assistant Peter Freestone, £100,000 to his driver Terry Giddings, and £500,000 to Jim Hutton.[50] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddie_Mercury#cite_note-Wigg_2000-49)

Mary Austin continues to live at Mercury's home, Garden Lodge, Kensington, with her family.[50] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddie_Mercury#cite_note-Wigg_2000-49) Hutton moved back to the Republic of Ireland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Ireland) permanently in 1995, where he still lives. He was involved in a 2000 biography of Mercury, Freddie Mercury, the Untold Story, and also gave an interview for The Times (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Times) for what would have been Mercury's 60th birthday.

I think the fact that May says he didn't know he was gay/bi proves that Mercury wasn't born gay. He was sucked into it. Wokka wokka...

From what I've read, I think a more accurate term would be "omnisexual". Completely down with whoever for whatever.

I don't think that May's claim that he didn't know is implausable. It seems that he is talking about the early days of the band and Freddie was probably banging a lot of broads back then and yes he did have Mary Austin as an actual girlfriend in those days. So, back then, on the surface he probably did appear to be hetero, although I'm sure there were probably suspicions. Later on, it did seem to become pretty obvious, especially when he grew the moustache.

But yeah, as someone else said he was more of a guy who would stick his dick in anything.
