I normally get to see my daughter on Christmas Eve, and of course I had to work. So the plan was for me to be off work early in the afternoon, go home, pick up my kid and spend some time with her before taking her back to her mom so they could go to church.
The pick up that I had to make should have been 30 minutes, in and out. It was just empty plastic milk jugs.
Fast forward SIX FUCKING HOURS, they're still loading my truck. Turns out they didn't have the jugs ready to ship and were loading them as they came off the assembly line.
So bottom line is I don't get home until 9pm, and I don't get to see my kid. Lucky for me, I get along with her mom so I'm going to stop by what they're doing and drop my gift off.
Fucking lazy cunts. I want to stab someone in the face right about now. Last night was even worse. I would have stabbed the lazy cunt loading my truck in the face if he hadn't just disappeared (without telling me whether he was done loading my truck, apparently he was in a hurry to get home too.)
Sometimes I hate what I do for a living.

If I had the guts I would have just dropped the trailer in the door after I wasn't loaded 2 hours into the wait, and just bobtailed home. Not like I'd get fired. One of our drivers threatened to kill my boss and still works there.
The moral of the story is: Don't ever become a truck driver.

That sucks. I run a warehouse and try to avoid that. but sometimes it's inevitable

Unless you own a truck, haul your own goods, and if you don't want to head out, you don't have to :D
My truck sits parked for 6 months a year, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

If I had enough money to buy my own truck, I'd go to college. No way I'd get into the business side of this bullshit. :action-sm

I've got a minor issue... I'm off for 11 days, starting today. But, work keeps paging me. They think I'm on-call for the holiday weekend. Neither myself or the guy who is on-call have been able to get a hold of anyone at our corporate office to let them know that they need to stop bugging me. Something must be wrong with the phones.
Normally, this is my on-call week. However, this year Thanksgiving and Christmas both fell on the same week in the on-call rotation, My boss made it clear that it's only fair that one guy shouldn't have to work both holidays. So, I worked it out that I'd have Christmas off but work Thanksgiving.
I even called in last night and told them that I am off starting today, so the calls need to be sent to the other guy. I was assured they'd record the change. Evidently, that didn't happen.
Someone has to be there, because they keep sending pages to my phone. I just keep forwarding them to the guy who is on-call. Luckily, it's been a slow/quiet day. Other than waking me up at 7:30 this morning, it hasn't really been too intrusive.

Do you get delay pay when this happens?
We've got some trucks that run close to 20 hours a day, and if some fuckos at a warehouse don't get the truck unloaded and loaded in time, the other load for that trucks gets delayed. If a truck is sitting its not making any money.
They get an hour to load and unload so long as the truck shows up during its scheduled time, otherwise its $100 an hour (gets split with the driver) motivates the driver to show up on time and motivates the people at the warehouse to get their work done.

Been there also, myself.
Being a former Tractor operator (amoungst other machinery), kept me from seeing Thanksgiving, Christmas and New years, several times. It is a bitch. Overall, well..............it's just sucks.
I will be praying for your sanity, my good man.

If your cab is big enough, bring your kid with you next year. If it's not, there's a show called "Trick My Truck" where these guys built a HUGE cab, installed a fridge, a stove, a bed, a table, a TV, stereo, a washer/dryer, even a fuckin SHOWER, and they put that box on the truck in place of the old cab. Shit was TIGHT! It was a husband/wife driver team so they basically lived on the road. I'm not sure if this was the Bonnie & Clyde Truck but it might have been. (Bonnie & Clyde Truck had painted bullet holes and 1930's style wheel wells and lights)
Maybe you can buy yourself a tricked out truck for Christmas so your daughter can chill on it with you.

I actually love that show. Its like Pimp My Ride for people who work and deserve help. But I would never want to own a truck. Its a losing business. Besides, I don't sleep in my truck myself most nights. I'm almost always home every night.

I missed several traditional holidays working in the "hospitality" industry for so many years, so I feel your pain. Luckily you've been able to keep friendly relations with your ex so you didn't get the total shaft.
