If he stays true to form he will most likely die at the end but it looks like he kicks some serious ass.

Hell ya. Liam Neeson playing a serious bad ass. I'm looking forward to it. His daughter is Maggie Grace (Shannon in "Lost").

As far as action/spy/badass movies go, this was absolutely fucking phenomenal. The (very) ending was a tad cheesy, but whatever. This was a solid story from the great Luc Besson, and was done very well. Must see for '09.

This movie looks awesome!

The trailer did have a bit of unintentional comedy though. The victim's daughter clearly states that she'll only have a few seconds, but she should yell every detail about her kidnappers that she can. So what does she do? Throw out a very non-descriptive scream. Nicely done. Don't give me that "she was scared 'cause she was about to be kidnapped" bullshit either.

I had no idea it was PG-13 prior to, or while watching. kinda of surprising because it is very gritty. there are some brutal murders, torturing, and a shot of a dead girl who od'd on heroin presumably.

Wouldn't say there's much that should definitely make it R.. but it doesn't hold back either.

Just watched this. It's a pretty generic plot, with a couple of twists here and there. The best part is Liam Neeson kicking some serious ass in the movie, and that is what ends up making the movie. The action is close to the Bourne Trilogy which is honestly what surprised me. Going into the movie I expected the action to be pretty ordinary, but it exceeded all expectations. Oh and Liam Neeson did a great job acting wise, it wasn't just the cold blooded killer mentality, but also the scenes with his family.

I liked that Neeson pretty much killed anyone who had a had in his daughter's disappearance. I loved what he did to Marco and the dude who wanted to negotiate at the end. My favorite one might be the one where he shoots the French officer's wife.

Yeah I saw the movie when it was released, I got a screener copy of it. I agree it was very very formulaic, but the action is quite good.

There's a reason this movie sat on a shelf for years before being released. Also, for the most part January is a wasteland of movies being released.

(Case in point this year : King of Queens as a mall security guard? Underworld 3...with no one from the original? Bloody Valentine horror movie ...but it's in 3D?)

exactly.

The most dramatic part of the movie is in the trailer. You know he's going to kick ass, which he does. You know he will stop at nothing, he doesn't. You know he's going to save the daughter and everything is going to be ok. He does.

The same thing happened with Al Pacino's "88 Minutes" which was released overseas (and "available") prior to it going into theaters....and it was the same.

I hate movies that are just a paycheck and a vacation for all involved. The movie is a waste of time.

I watched it last night and can attest to its awesome-ness!

When he realizes he is speaking to the guy who said "Good luck" to him over the phone, you think: "Alright he is going to leave the building and confront him one-on-one later on. But instead he takes on six savage, armed Albanians by himself. The film is full of parts like this one where he gets into really dangerous situations and finds a way to escape.

The supporting characters (casting) sucked except for the cute daughter and her friend. But it was definetely worth watching - especially if you can watch it for free, somehow.

Plunkies

I just got around to watching it. The beginning, ending, and anything in the movie involving a plot was fucking terrible and predictable. The middle with Liam Neeson killing everyone he can find is pretty watchable though. It made me laugh that he had to kill half of France AND get a meeting with a famous pop star just to earn his cunty daughter's love.

AFA

I thought it was good. A little more story would have been nice.

So apparantly there's more than one version.
In the U.K. there's the 18 year-old version and an edited 15 year-old version.
And the American version is an edit of the U.K. 15 year-old version.

Hopefully the real movie will be released on DVD here too.

Though it was pretty damn racy for a PG-13 rating though. The movie is all about killing, heroin, and sex slaves.

w00t!Thriller 'Taken' snatches box office crown
LOS ANGELES, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Thriller "Taken," starring
Liam Neeson as a former spy who must rescue his daughter from
kidnappers, snatched the No. 1 spot at North American box
offices over the weekend, according to studio estimates on
Sunday.
"Taken" grabbed $24.6 million in just under 3,200 theaters,
for an average of about $7,700 per theater, and it played to a

Not to take away the funny, but that actually is some scary shit. Who would of thought what seemed like a minor blow to the head could make you dead a couple of hours later. I remember some times in my past where somehow my head got slammed what seemed like pretty hard, now I'll freak out that happens to me now. From the stories, she was perfectly fine right after it happened.

back to the movie...I just saw this movie and it was really good...Nice plot/story and i liked that he was still vulnerable despite his kickassedness

I was thinking the whole time about the comment on O&A that the big star singer would never have an apartment without guards etc...Upon further review it is clearly not her home, but rather the home of the singing coach she was going to set liam's daughter up with. The walls had some gold records and you can see the coach in the background at the piano...that's what is up with it...

Even if the somehow is as good as a action flick as say die hard or the road warrior I still wouldn't see it. For two reasons...1. The whole kidnapping thing has been done a million times. and 2. the trailer has some pretty big douche chill lines..."I have a deadly set of skills."-eccchhh. Whenever I hear really bad movie lines in a trailer I automaticly black book the movie. The departed had "you wana chop me up and feed me to the poor" which that line and that fact that I don't like Decaprio made me black book it. I did check it out though and it was a good movie.

TreeFortRichard
03-22-2009, 04:05 AM

At the very least Taken should be given credit for his 'negotiation' at the end of the film.
