I saw the trailer for "State of Play" the new conspiracy/suspense movie starring Russel Crowe, Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams. It was based on an excellent BBC 6 part mini-series from 2003, which I "got," and I definitely recommend it. It starred Bill Nighy, David Morrisey, Sam Tyler, Gene Hunt, Kelly McDonald (from No Country and Choke), James McAvoy and the MILF from Rome.

I really enjoyed the mini series. Looks like they have kept a lot of the same shots. I can't figure out how Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck are college roommates. Jason Bateman seems to be playing the club promotor a little more straight than the BBC version.

I remember reading how Brad Pitt started filming the lead in this but hated the numerous rewrites that Universal made after he signed on.
And I swore I read Ed Norton was supposed to be in it, making it the first reteaming of Pitt and Norton since Fight Club.
I'm going to be cautiously optimistic.

I don't know, I haven't seen the new version. But you can't go wrong trying to find the BBC version.
