Another announcement to make, as per Daily Variety, which just went
online with this about an hour ago...there's a director now attached
to World War Z: Marc Forster, whose most current project is the new
James Bond movie.

I'm now finishing up the revisions per Marc's director's notes, and
with any luck, we can get this thing moving forward after the first of
the year. Given the scale of the story, Marc's a perfect choice.

The book is a unique and incredible read, I really recommend it.

Also, the script seems to have some serious buzz around it.

I'm really looking forward to this one.

I really hope they don't fuck this up.

I had never read the book, but peaked at what I'm guessing was an early draft of the script probably six months ago.

I loved the name and imagined giant battles between an army full of the undead taking on the living, instead it was more of the after effects of World War Z from what I remember. I'm not saying it wasn't good, just wasn't what I was expecting, it wasn't called "A Year After World War Z" it's called "World War Z" let's fucking see the war, just my opinion.

I'm reading it now and love it.

I didn't read the whole book, but I'm curious to see how they would make this. The way the book is structured (from what I remember) is basically a bunch of random recollections of the war by various people around the world. Don't know if they could make that work in feature film format. But then again a zombie movie is a zombie movie, so I'll see it.

I dunno about this one...my ex girlfriend, who didn't scare easily, was horrified reading the book. I don't like the "Children of Men with Zombies" description of the script, though.

I really enjoyed the book alot. The aftermath on how the world recovered was very well thought out and interesting. Not quite sure how this will be made into a film other than you run of the mill zombie flick...

Great book, won't have high hopes for a great movie.

Well I just ordered this book & the "Zombie Survival Handbook". Have to see what you people are talking about.

The best part of the book were the details and thoroughness, not something that Hollywood adaptations are known for...

There are some segments that would be great on film (some of the stuff in "Total War" segment about the "sweep" across the U.S., the stuff about the battle in Yonkers, the woman pilot whose plane went down, and even the blind Japanese guy), but many of the parts that are really interesting about rebuilding would be better as a fake History channel style program, and would just be dismissed as "boring" by most movie-goers.

So, I have low expectations.

I downloaded the audio book about a year ago, and it was fucking great. I'm doubting the movie will be anything more than watered down garbage, which is a shame. The only way to do it properly would be an HBO series.

I read somewhere that this is the one zombie film that can win awards. Real awards like best pic, best actor blah blah ....not just best disembowlment or best head shot

They'll spend years talking about WWZ and then, three decades from now, it will be a shitty cartoon series.

There were some stories that would work really well on film (the reality show chapter and the battle at Yonkers spring to mind) and some that wouldn't. I'm just curious how they plan to tie it all together.

As a major fan of the book and as I imagine some of scenes, if its written, filmed and edit right, it could be phenomenal. As I see it, a series of scenes of the Battle of Yonkers, or the battle in California where someone sung "Avalon" (loved that reference), opposite to the mellower parts where radio technicians had to deal with the cries for help, it could make for a powerful movie.

There are enough, vastly different stories lines in the book, that if only a few are used, they would make for a powerful movie.

I would really like to see the blind Japanese and India story lines. Also, they people trapped on the International Space Station would be interesting.

Any zombie movie is better than no zombie movie. I would give anything for a oblivion style zombie rpg.

Not a big fan of book, but it seems like the scope of the book is too big. It's almost a bunch short stories within the same universe. I'm guessing that they would just write something totally new so they could center everything around one character. The basic formula of almost every American Movie.

Shit yeah, looking forward to this.

Would love to see it spin into an HBO series afterward, as well. Book had plenty of material.

Battle of Yonkers has to be one of my favorite story arcs in any book ever... Can't wait to see it on film.

Based on the number of stories in the book, this would probably make a better miniseries than movie.

When I read a book, it's almost like I'm watching a movie in my mind. The way I envisioned the Battle of Yonkers was terrifying and horrendous. It could make for a powerful scene.

Oh you should check out The Stink of Flesh (2004) the first movie to have the "Rapier" of a zombie! Low budget but with it's moments! :icon_eek:
