I definitely don't think that Brendan is a moron for not playing the idol. You can look at it and hindsight and say "yeah, he should have used it" but looking at it from his vantage point there was no reason to waste it. He thought he had the numbers to get rid of Coach so there was little reason to expect the blindside.

As for the votes, I don't think there was really any planning into who voted for who, other than Coach made sure that he was a vote for Brendan. The rest was just their way of guaranteeing that Sierra went home if Brendan played the immunity idol.

Brendan's biggest error was not coming to Taj at the merge and saying something. He always seemed kind of aloof in some of the strategy (like when he didn't tell Sierra about the exile alliance). He was content in just going through the motions for a few eliminations before swooping in and that was the death of him because Stephen would never let JT go. By the time he realized that he needed to make a move early it was too late, JT and Stephen had already committed to Coach and Tyson.

I would have hoped that if Brendan came around earlier JT and Stephen would have went that way. The alliance with Brendan and Sierra would have benefitted JT much more, imo.

As it is now, I foresee Sierra going next and then JT, Stephen, Taj, and Erinn banding together to take out Debbie or Coach.
