Van Damme is making Bloodsport 2
"Guy is a complete bum, maybe abusing his son.
Jean-Claude Van Damme has confirmed to totalfilm.com that he is working on Bloodsport 2, a true sequel to his first hit movie.
“You know, like, we’re gonna do Bloodsport 2," he told us in a recent interview. "Which was my first movie. And I want to do it now in a very mature way, where the guy from Bloodsport is a complete bum, maybe abusing his son."
The original Bloodsport spawned three follow-ups, but Jean-Claude was connected to none of them.
Studio Hesitant
Despite the recent success of latest movie JCVD, Van Damme is encountering some resistance from the studio.
“They told me, ‘No, no, no! You cannot make a movie in America where a father is abusing his son physically! It’s wrong."
“And you cannot be a guy on drugs doing karate and shit like that.’ I said, ’Why? Why? Tell me why.’
"It’s against the rules of success. But I believe the other rules of success. To show something real.”
Keep an eye on totalfilm.com for more from Van Damme, including his thoughts on drug addiction, why he turned down Stallone's Expendables and the help tape he's looking to create.

Bloodsport is the greatest movie ever. Anyone who says different is simply wrong. I'm kinda hoping, for the sake of the first movie, that this sequel isn't made.

I thought it was based on a true story...after a google, I now doubt it.

I'd see it. If done right it could be good but after the way he described it there is no way a big studio would make it. It would have to be a independent release I think.

I thought it was based on a true story...after a google, I now doubt all of humanity except for Frank Dux, for they are all liars.
Fixed for correct answer. It was practically a documentary!

I liked Bloodsport actually. I haven't seen it in years though. I should get the dvd of it.
I'd love to see a JCVD Bloodsport 2.
The first movie is one of my favorites.
He might as well do a Kickboxer 2 after this one.

There already was a Kickboxer 2. I think it starred Cody from Step by Step.

Yep, Sasha Mitchell starred in the sequel, but not as Van Damme's character, Kurt Slone. As a matter of fact, Slone's disappearance was just explained away. Soon after Slone defeated Tong Po to regain the honor of his brother and his woman, Tong Po killed all three of them. Yep, that was it.

Its unexpect him be have an interest in a sequel after Frank Dux sued him for breach of contract. Van Damme allegedly promised Dux a % of a "bloodsport" follow up. Meanwhile, Dux had a deal with another company to write the script, but the company went bankrupt.
That particular vision of 'Bloodsport" never got made. instead Van Damme starred in 1996's "the Quest" which resembles "blloodsport" in many ways. Dux complained that it was his actually his ideas for the sequel done in another movie. he got credited as the "creator" and $50,000. He sued Van Damme, now an ex- friend, in 1998 but lost.

i've cut Dux some slack. Someone claiming to be him has been on a recent pr offensive disputing some of the claims attributed to him.
Plus, supposed "based on true stories" goes through the hollywood effect. Events are changed for dramatic purposes. A movie critic pointed out that this happens because audiences want to be entertained in a theater.
