I don't much about Pontiac's .. how is the life on them? I have a chance to buy a Grand Am with 180K on it for 900$. How much could I honestly get out of it?

Well, a $900 car is a $900 car. I wouldn't trust any American make with that many miles though.

Waste of money.
Especially, if Leroy owned it...

It's $900. The company will outlast it. Even at this rate.
If the car runs and has decent tires, it's probably worth that. Offer them $750 and see what happens.
Then drive it into the ground. If you get 6 months out of it, you're in the clear moneywise.

He should also toss in a coupon for half off his next brain surgery. ;)

Pontiac isn't going bankrupt, it's being discontinued. It's not a company, it's a GM brand.
Pontiacs demise is irrelevant to your purchasing a car to get a year or two out of. Anything you need for it will be available while you have it.

That's all I need it to last.
My question is it possible for a Grand Am to break 250K or so?
The car has been kept up great by the way.

Any car is possible to get 250k if it's well taken care of. And if not, you're only out $900.
Hell, you can probably get most of that back when you're done with it anyway.

I had a late 80's grand am with over 200K on it, with no engine issue ever... and grand am's, at least to my knowledge, are one of the better engines GM has put out in the past 20-30 years...along with the 3100 in the 90's grand prixs

The engines aren't the problem with GM products. The 3100 and 3800 engines are warhorses. Everything else falls apart sooner or later though.
