Anyone else starting to notice a higher frequency of Howard's channel advertisements being played on the Virus lately? Seems almost every commercial break has an over produced pitch for Stern.
Perhaps he's losing listeners and thus Sirius is trying to branch out to listeners of similar radio content?
I don't have the best of Sirius or whatever, anyone know if the bbboys are advertised heavily on his channel?

But when I'm at home I don't have that luxury, because I can't read the myfi from 20 feet away.

Stern on 202. It's the only way he can win. He would throw a fucking tizzy if they even approached him to run O&A commercials.
If a bunch of people join for NASCAR or for Martha Stewart then you can count on Howie math to kick in and say HE brought all the new business. Is he truly as delisional as he sounds or is he just a bullshiter that knows he is a 'has been'??

But he does bring up O&A apparently for various reasons on his show from time to time.
Just as O&A bring him up as well.
He may not care about advertisements and what not, but I think Howard still holds some form of animosity towards our guys. I suppose it's just general competition for the same demographic.

That's actually what the commercial I've been hearing today is about.

Regular XM listeners get a free week of Howie's channels on 101 and 102.

I got the email, and replied back. I told them that I have the best of sirius to support the company, but I do not listen to Howard Stern. I told them that I did a little bit, and gave it a shot. But, its awful, and that the company needs to support the right show Opie And Anthony. If you guys have the email still, you should reply back to it that you just listen to 202, or 197. Don't have the email anymore, I am sure there is a way to look it up. Don't be nasty, just give your opinion, Sirius Xm should be promoting the O&A show a lot more!

Funny you say that...I JUST got off the horn from doing that for all 3 radios on my account.
I made it cleared when asked that I enjoyed several channels, primarily 202 so I'm a supporter of adult content. Then I made it clear to them I was not in support of Howard or Sirius or Sirius' ridiculous 35 million listener fantasy on their commercials.
Then they asked me about going with the lifetime package and I said "The way Mel is running the company, I'm surprised each month that the service hasn't shut off...you think I'm going to bet on LIFETIME with him in chanrge?"

Same here. The ONLY reason I keep my sub going is to keep a few sheckles going into the company to support the boys. If they go, I go. When they got suspended I told XM I'm wasn't paying for the month they were going to be off the air. They gave me a free month, go figure. Anyways, I listen to maybe 10-20min a day in my car. I download the previous days show and listen to that while I'm at work.
Oh by the way is there a way to pay the normal price on Sirius but replace HooHoo with the boys? I'd like to get rid of my XM Roady and use my cars built in Sirius option but not if I have to pay extra per month because of that old hack.

The commercials say "15 million potential new listeners, for a total of 35 million listeners".. That seems to imply that he currently has 20 million listeners currently. That math makes about as much sense as reporting cars parked at a dealership as active subs.
The folks at AirTran and jetBlue (Actually, LiveTV, the company that runs their in flight entertainment) are shitting bricks - they're being told that they have to call and block those channels on each and every aircraft individually! (Both carriers block all xL channels). To make it worse, they're not letting LiveTV establish the blocks until the channel officially goes live in "free" mode.

Well, echoing some of the sentiments here, I too find it a bit ridiculous to pay for online access. It would also appear that there are no longer trial offers for XM online as well. So in theory, if someone was re-registering for a free trial of online every 3 days or so it would seem someone can no longer do this.
If I add online access again, I may dump my 2nd radio in lieu of it.

Does Sirius really care what we listen to, they already have our money. Aside from advertising reasons I doubt they care.
Of course they do. They have our money now, but there's nothing keeping us from canceling. Also, they need to know what is actually attracting listeners so they can properly determine the value of their talent (they're not very good at that, though...).
I was a Hoo Hoo fan first. I started listening to O&A in the late 90's. They were definitely my second favorite show. Then Hoo Hoo got a divorce. And fired Jackie. And hired a fat hack of a heroin addict. And married Beth Ono. And quite working a five-day week. And took vacations every other week. And stopped taking real listener calls. And pushed his shity tv channel. And interviewed porn-whores every day. And turned into everything he use to make fun of. Etc.
Now, O&A are my favorite show (well, tied with R&F). I don't dislike Hoo Hoo because the bbboys had a problem with him, I dislike him for reasons of his own doing. If he still did a good show, I'd be listening. But as is, I wouldn't tune into that shitshow if they paid me to, much less just because its "free" for the week.

-When I have a bet and want to check a score
-If I need to check traffic for a long drive
-If the wife wants to check out what music is on (but most of the time, she just ends up plugging in her iPhone)
I don't mind paying near-HBO subscription prices for that one satellite radio channel because I get my money's worth. I just wish the company would stand behind them since I know there are others who only maintain their subscriptions for the same reason. It would also give me the confidence that management will stand by the show the next time shit hits the fan (Howie whines, pending suspension, etc.)

I just flipped over to Howie during a break on 202.
A fifteen minute discussion of Howie's on-line chess obsession. A fascinating glimpse into the leisure activities of an elderly, semi-retired man in the twilight of his life. Riveting.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow's discussion of shuffleboard strategies, where to go for the best early bird special dinner, and a comparative discussion pitting the merits of the Rascal Scooter vs. the Hoveround Chair.

I usually just lurk here, but I had to chime in about this.
This commercial is completely idiotic for one main reason, the "15 million potential new Stern fans!" line.
This is not a line for a promo, this is a line for a marketing presentation. When the marketing guys say "We need to give the XM people a free preview, that's 15 million potential "Best Of" subscribers...that's a potential $60 million a month...blah blah"
When you put this line in a promo, it's saying "15 million people don't even give enough of a shit about Stern to pay $4 to hear him!"

Lol, that's a very good, obvious point I missed. Why would the average XM listener care what kind of numbers Howard has? Helping to give him more listeners isn't incentive to sign up for "Best Of" content is. Push how funny the show is, not the perspective numbers.
Good point sir.

maybe we should take it as a compliment... maybe those 15000000 new possible listeners are us.. opie did hint that management said they did great in numbers....
Its 1 platform, no mater how much we bitch it dont matter.
Whats the problem with listening to 1 live and 1 on replay if you want. and if you dont then fucking dont.
I make my own schedual. I've been listening to both shows for years. I first learned of the boys when they came to philly on WYSP the first time when they were on WNEW and I had Stern in the morning , and the boys later . I like mixing it up. Maybe, just maybe, 1 day we will here OnA spots on their platform. Im so tired of the drama.
I think both shows are funny , and they both hit topics and guests that I like.
Cant we all just get along?

God, this is HORRIBLE! There's some guy on who sounds like Danny but without the funny. I stopped hearing his actual words and just heard "blah blah blah HOWARD blah HOWARD blah blah blah". Then it went into a parody song about Robin's tits to the tune of..."Build Me Up, Buttercup". What song? Exactly.
And I assume since he's reaching these potential 15 million listeners that Stern is on his A-game. Ugh.

So I wake up this morning to the XM fucking preview channel. When I said to put a block on 100/101, looks like the savage decided to block all xL channels, and the default power on station (202) didn't work.
Got it going again, and I couldn't resist the temptation to see what Howard was all about. What I gathered is 1) He's not good at chess but he's better than the other asshairs there and 2) Robin is a HUGE hole! Jesus H. Christ, this isn't the playboy channel...stop sucking him off 24/7!
I feel bad for all my passengers/rest of the flight crew today, they got the worst of me! Somewhere at Appliance Direct, and oven awaits Stern...

*sigh* You're bringing back bad memories. I remember listening to that shit and laughing before I found O&A. One that I remember distinctly was "I want to shoot my goo on Robin's big brown boobs!" Sal The Stockbroker and Richard Christy come up with 2 jingles like that a week and the Howie fans hail it as comedic genius. I know because I did. God I fucking suck.

back on topic OnA will never get any help or respect from sirius. Sirius will just continue to protect Stern and at the same time protecting themselves by trying to make Sterns contract (and the decision to give it to him ) look like the right move. As long as Stern is still there and the bosses that made that contract are still there they will continue to artificially boost Sterns numbers at the detrament of other shows. They will continue to incorporate plans that they hope will bolster Sterns numbers will taking away numbers from other shows all at the same time not adding new subs to Sirius. This company and its bosses are so ass backwards.

While driving home tonight, i switched to 100, the 2 calls to XM did nothing to block the channel. I listened to howie for about 15 minutes where he was just talking about how he was done at the end of his contract. Is this how you get new listners, by talking about how you've done all you can do and are done in a year?
Also, you know how when the boys tell a story, they throw in jokes and make funny comments to entertain the listners... howards show dosent do that.

And as so many have stated already 20 million listeners of Stern. Thats a fucking joke. And I actually watched the video on xm for about 30 seconds before I wanted to throw up. OH and one more point. Why is Stern's interview of The Body Ventura on XM's page at the bottom. I actually really enjoyed the boys interview before it was so rudely interrupted. I think everyone should hear Anthony's line about FDR's legs. One of the greatest in a long time.

I stopped listening to Howard in 2001. He wasn't funny anymore. Its just that simple. He was telling the same jokes, doing the same bits and bitching about the same things. His creativity stopped in 1998. I've listened a couple times this week; and still the same shit from 10 years ago. But, he can say fuck and shit. If it was free I still wouldn't listen because hs simply isn't funny or entertaining anymore.
Regarding Jesse, I heard some of his interview on Howard, saw clips from The View, heard Larry Kink and listened to O&A. Except for Jimmy and Ant challenging him, all interviews were the same. I think he writes his one liners down and uses them for all his appearences. In the interviews he said the same thing.

OK. Going for broke in this thread and then calling it a day. I want to see if, for once, a Stern fan can actually back up why they love and defend the show the way they do with actual examples. None of the zombies that harrass O&A fans on this site can name them and others that insist he's still got it (like HNIC) simply disappear rather than come to the table with some actual information.
Maybe we can finally get an answer to the elusive question: do you defend Howard because you've done it for so long and remember all the good radio he gave you years ago, or are there actual things you enjoy about the show now?

Only way I know what's going on on his show is from the Mark's Friggin reports and that's only to find out what he's taking credit for inventing or how he's complaining about Opie & Anthony who are supposedly irrelevant to him yet always on his mind. If I read a report, and search "Opie" and nothing comes up, I typically don't even read the rundown.
But that's not why I'm responding to you a final time tonight. Please answer what no other Stern fan can: What do you enjoy about the show lately?
Seriously. No bashing. No "my favorite show is better than yours." No more comments about who's a hack and who's entertaining.
Name me specific examples of what still entertains you about the modern day Howard Stern radio show. What's funny? What's original? What's shocking and engaging that makes you want to stay in your car like it's the mid-80s to mid-90s because you don't want to miss what's coming up next?
Every time I get into this O&A vs. Stern debate, the Stern backers always say how he's the legend and king for his work on Sirius, but can't mention things they actually like or talk about with their other Stern friends. This goes for Stern fans that troll Wackbag, SFN posters, and even "free for all" message boards on sports and entertainment sites.
I can tell you 10 things about O&A's show that had me dying of laughter this week alone...and it's only Wednesday. But no Stern fan yet has been able to explain what makes the show so special other than "It's Howard - therefore it rules." So since you continue to go back and forth with me, please back up your show so I can understand the appeal. That's all.

I can answer that. As I said, Stern use to be my favorite show. Now, I listen to him an hour a week at most. Stern doesn't make me laugh, and the world's luckiest obese heroin addict certainly doesn't either (that Artie Lange's "book" sold as many copies as it has is a testament to the Hoo Hoo zombies). But, Sal & Richard make me laugh. I'll probably get flamed for that, but I really think they should have their own show. Oddly enough, Stern barely lets them in studio (mostly, they make fake phony calls and some very funny song parodies about Stern's pet she-boon), always runs them off the mic as quickly as he can, and really limits their comedy with his politically correct bullshit (the words "fag" and "n i g g e r" are now prohibited on his show).
I really enjoy O&A's show, but I'm not a Pest; I won't hate other radio shows because they say I should. I just like funny stuff, and Stern just isn't funny anymore. I think for most of his current audience, he's more a phenomena of sentimentality and nostalgia than entertainment - a radio security blanket that has become habit over the years (like Couric or Brokaw - untalented, but familiar). I actually canceled my Sirius account over a year ago, but those incompetent fucks never turned my receiver off. If it weren't for that, I'd never listen to Stern again, and I can honestly say I wouldn't miss it at all - something I wouldn't have said a couple of years ago.

So we're taken seriously, please try to keep show references and expletives to a minimum.
WOW, I have not posted here in a while, but, I was reading this article and the comments, and WOW!
There is absolutely NO COMPARISON to the two shows anymore, has not been for years. The O&A show has ALWAYS given back to its fans, Hoo Hoo has not done ANYTHING for his fans in over 15 years!
Fuck Howard, he is yesterday's garbage. He has been irrelevant for many years, and has no talent left in him. Opie, Anthony and Jimmy ARE radio gold, and have been since 1998, when they first arrived in NYC.
If Hoo Hoo was doing so well, why this stupid promotion? It is a joke!

Those aren't "prank calls". What they are is "prank prank calls"... as in- the prank is on you if you think you're listening to an actual prank call and not some scripted bullshit. The one I heard was so blatently fake it was absolutely painful to listen to... the "victim" was obviously reading off of a script, and she misread her lines and had to stammer back over them three different times.
Embarrassingly bad.

I say trying to reason with people who do nothing but drag up other arguments in order to invalidate the current argument is pointless. You're probably not even arguing with legitimate Stern fans anymore. There are a lot of children on the internet nowadays, and they love nothing more than picking sides on something and causing trouble in forums.
It's just... I'm finding it hard to put my thoughts into words here. Just try not to have an aneurysm while arguing with shit stirrers. I do fully back the fact that it's bullshit that the cross-promotion is a one way street, though.

Who the fuck thought "Be one of the 15 million new potential subscribers" was a great marketing ploy? How is that relevant? How is that a benefit to me?
Say it with me now, Features, Advantages, Benefits. 15 million new subscribers is a pitch to the suits, not to me. And for fuck's sake, if I cared what everyone else listened to I'd put on WTOP, the all news station here in DC. I DON'T CARE WHAT THE FUCK EVERYONE ELSE LISTENS TO.
I'd be surprised if I met a US native who hadn't heard of Howard Stern. if they haven't signed up for your shitty package by now, they won't.
Beyond all of this, I turned it on to see what was what. Mistake. They spent 15 minutes talking to Eric the Midget because Eric was upset at being called a midget. Whoopdyshit. Then Artie, as Howard was going to commercial break, said "Hey Howard." "Yeah Artie." "I know why Bruce Springsteen wasn't really fucking this chick." "Why Artie." "She's 44."
That whole "Hey Howard" thing sounds too much like "Hey Dad, can I have a dinosaur for Christmas?"
Christ his show sucks.

Maybe Howard Stern really is the king of all media.
This morning's New York Daily News offers up what most Stern fans have known for years. "Howard Stern has proven irreplaceable on radio," it begins, chronicling the terrestrial-radio destruction left in the wake of Stern's departure from the FM airwaves at the end of 2005. The flagship Stern station went through several uninspiring replacements before finally converting to a music format.
This has naturally blessed Sirius XM Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI). Stern’s arrival at Sirius in 2006 triggered a shift in power. Sirius was much smaller than XM at the time, but Stern's arrival found Sirius closing the gap with every passing quarter. Few will argue with what I'm about to say next: If Stern had gone to XM instead of Sirius, we would be talking about XM buying Sirius -- and not the other way around -- for a much kinder exchange ratio right now.
So why do some people question the merit of signing Stern to a five-year deal worth $500 million? Yes, it's a lot, but he has certainly earned it. You can't blame him for the company's weak financials and cumbersome debt. He was brought in to ramp up subscriptions, and he certainly did that.
The New York Daily News article offers up a history lesson, but it's also one that Sirius XM will have to bone up on soon. Stern's contract concludes at the end of next year.
How much will it take to retain Stern's services? Will it be more or less than $100 million annually?
Let's look at both sides of the argument. One can argue that Sirius XM has a few aces in its hand to drive down that price, even as Sirius XM has grown to a whopping 19 million subscribers.
Terrestrial-radio heavies like Clear Channel and CBS (NYSE: CBS) are weaker now than they were a year ago.
Sirius merging with XM means that the two satellite-radio services won't be bidding against one another.
The flipside to the argument is that Stern may have more options than the obvious.
The evolution of Web radio and the multitude of portable gadgets that will hit the market in the coming years make it quite feasible that Stern could break out with his own subscription product.
More to the point, instead of competing with terrestrial radio, the real battle may be with digital delivery powerhouses like Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL), Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), or possibly even Google (Nasdaq: GOOG).
We may never know how many of Sirius XM's subscribers came over only to follow Stern, but just knowing that they may follow him off satellite radio can be troublesome to Sirius XM's subscriber base growth.
It's hard to say who has the upper hand here, though one would think that Stern has the edge. If he decides to stay with Sirius XM, he may even opt to keep the renewal short, to give the market changes a little more time to evolve to the point where he can make more money elsewhere.
Either way, while it seems that most of the non-sports talent acquired by Sirius and XM over the years is truly replaceable -- and that includes Oprah Winfrey, as retail subscriptions have trickled consistently lower since her arrival -- Stern is the most important person at Sirius XM.
Sorry, Mel Karmazin. Even you know it has to be true.

He's not even controersial by 1990's standards. He has compeletey censored his own show - there are now words that he won't say, nor allow his staff to say. Not because SiriXM doesn't want him saying them - because HE (or rather, his pet monkey, his wife, and the Hamptons crowd) doesn't want them said.

I change the channel every time I hear this commercial coming on. However, I change when most of the lame commercials on XM come on. I don't know if the 10+ minute breaks are the boys decision, but the breaks really are too long and too painful to suffer through.
At least during FM they would fill the breaks with old bits. Mel is radio Cancer Aids.
