He entered dangerously with intention to foul. You can't go in with a cleat the way he did.

Had this happen to a kid in a game back in high school. You could hear the bones break (lovely squishy-pop sound) from half-way across the field. A few pins and a year of rehab he'll be fine.

he was actually going for the ball, just misjudged it by an inch. The ref red carded him to avoid a monkey riot.

The shin is ridiculously weak when it comes to shearing force. It's primarily a compressed bone. If it's under strain and a sharp hit is applied...game over.
