Just curious..

Its too bad that Boy George got on Schindler's list. I would rather he'd get gassed by the nazis. Then we wouldn't have to hear those stupid songs of his

Opie's the only one with musical taste. Ant and Jim bash DMB for 15 minutes and then, after trashing the Chickenshit song, retract and say how they like it and would download it. That song was fucking awful. The lyrics gave me the DC's and I then proceeded to vomit.

It find it funnier when Jimmy doesn't know a band or a song...

'what do you think about pearl jam?'
'never heard them'

They are all kind of stuck in their eras, but opie did mention he listens to MGMT, so maybe he is moving past 1995.

I hate when they go to music and start playing songs and digesting them. Almost as bad as the Friday live shows when they would do a show for twenty people and forget they have a radio audience. IMHO

Jimmy once questioned why Bob Dylan would cover Jimi Hendrix's "all along the watchtower."
Jimmy doesn't know shit about music and he gets really annoying when he talks about it.

Jimmy's musical tastes are still better than Ant's. And I dare both of them to listen to any given Fergie song -- they'll be begging for Bruce, Muddy Waters, doo-wop, or anything else they dislike for no good reason.

I think it's more the fact that there are some people that are *really* into music and will constantly have evolving/maturing tastes and will constantly try to see out new things whereas there are others that music isn't as important to that just find what they like, stick to that and are reluctant to accept much more than that.

Yeah, what the fuck! I can understand people having different tastes completely, but Ant is the first person I ever heard disliking Motown. Obviously it's not everyone's favorite, but no one hates it.

I remember that time XM had that employee thing in DC that they weren't invited to and Steve mentioned that Jimmie's Chicken Shack was gonna be there. Norton started bashing them thinking it was the people serving the food. He was then informed that they are a band.

The fact that Jimmy attacks any band for their shitty lyrics is laughable when kiss's fucking lyrics are TERRIBLE. "They call me Dr. Love...I am you Dr. of love....I got the cure thinking of." YUCK!

And the way he was bashing analcunt for all their songs sounding the same, EVERY time they play a song, it's the same thing from Jimmy "Eww who listens to this garbage"

Just because Jimmy doesn't like it doesn't make it shit Jimmy, get over yourself.

Even Opie's taste is questionable. I find it easiest to tune away from the show when they get into a music discussion because it usually ends up with me yelling at my radio, which can't be healthy.

Ant: The blues suck!

Jimmy: Bob Dylan sucks! But this Rihanna song is catchy.... :icon_eek:

I've said this before, but I like Opie's participation in the music discussions the most. Not because I agree with his taste, but because he will at least say what he likes. Music taste is subjective, so to sit there and say "I dislike Nirvana, so Opie's music taste is shit" is retarded. He's entitled to his opinion, and it's his show, so he gets to tell you what it is.

Jimmy is a close second - I've heard him talk many times about bands other than Kiss and BS/Ozzy. I distinctly remember him commenting on how much he liked Gnarls Barkley, for example. Again, you can go suck a thick dick if you think Gnarls Barkley sucks and Jimmy is stupid for liking them - he's entitled to his opinion, his show, etc. The only thing Jimmy ever does wrong is when he deifies BS and says bands like U2 rip them off, but I think that's a bit. (I hope that was a bit.)

The one that continually drives me up a fucking wall is Anthony, who shits on everything. Aside from one Bad Company song and a reference the other day that he listens to Lithium, I can't think of one thing he's ever said he liked. He just comes off like some of the people in this thread - a bullying music snob that does nothing but shit on other people's favorite bands. We get it - you're 'too cool for the room music snob guy'. You can say everything in the world sucks, but don't have the fucking balls to say "I like this" for fear that someone's going to point and laugh at you. It's one of the few things they do on the show that consistently pisses me off.

It's been discussed in the music forum a lot that music knowledge is not any of the guy's strong point, which is fine.

The one that gets me is when one of the guys will say a band must suck because they were not selling out arenas. Opie specifically since he worked in FM radio should be aware that a lot of, if not most, of popular artists usually have little redeeming artistic integrity or ability.

So they live in a music bubble a bit, big deal. Jimmy's oblivious stance on just about everything pop culture is fantastic. How someone can not even casually come across some of the people and artists they have discussed throughout the years is impressive.

I heard jimmy go off on bands before but i can't tell if he's just a good actor or what.

He said he loathes the sappy music, but didn't he bring in that singer to perform on the FM side. I think it was just to impress his girl at the time. If i remember the video she was in studio.

Agreed with most stuff in this thread. Ant especially is guilty of the lowest common denominator shit, only listens to the hits, constantly shouting "get to the hook!!!" 5 seconds into any song kind of shit. It amazes me that a guy with so much experience in bands would be so adamant that every professional musician should perform every song exactly as it sounds on the CD. Might as well just cue up the CD and have them mime. Maybe it's due to too much cover band experience. The comment about him never "liking" anything is very justified. I've heard him shit on just about everything while, with the exception of being a The Who fan in his youth and the odd agreement about Alice in Chains, has reserved his praise for fucking garbage like Evanescence, Disturbed and Godsmack.

Opie, bless his heart, thinks he knows new, fresh music but in reality it's stuff like The Killers and Snow Patrol who are already over-exposed and not actually any good. He should check out pitchforkmedia.com and expand his horizons a little. Just to get a feel of what is really out there.

Jimmy is hilarious. Especially the quote about Hendrix covering Dylan. It's really funny and quite endearing how many incredibly successful bands Jimmy has never even heard of. To avoid being labeled some sort of faggot who listens to "emo" (another example of days worth of rants targeted at the wrong bands) I'll point out that I like the first couple of Sabbath albums too.

Honestly, I enjoy Pitchfork despite not liking the majority of music they push. But they do always promote the really good music that's out there no matter which genre it comes from and if nothing else, they expose a huge number of bands and artists who get zero air play.

My point, though, was that if Opie really wants to come across as the guy who "knows" music he'd do well to check out some of the stuff they give positive reviews to just to see how the musical landscape has changed since 1992. He might hate it but at least he'd be aware of it.

hilarious

As for the boys music taste, they really have none to speak of. I respect that they (at least Opie and Jimmy) like certain shit, but in general they are shortsighted, underexposed, and clueless.

Anything that Jimmy says bad about other bands can ALWAYS be applied to one of his favorites, KISS. (See horrendous lyrics and awful melodies)

Opie is just trying to be open-minded but usually comes off as an older gentleman trying to stay relevant. I'm sure he does like the stuff he talks about but.... ehhhhhh

Anthony just hates everything not put out in a 6 month span in 1997, which at LEAST he admits. Though i think it gets old that she shits on EVERYTHING but Alice In Chains...

no one gives a fuck what i think anyway, but pandora.com is a good site if you want to be exposed to some new music that is similar to other bands you like

I was shocked when a few weeks ago Opie said they were having Chris Cornell on the next day and Jimmy A) Had no idea who he was, and B) Didn't know any Soundgarden songs. I just think that's pretty bad, if you're into rock at all chances are you're gonna know SOMETHING by him.
