Yes, because it's completely intuitive that he was talking about the 18 year old daughter that WAS NOT present at the game, as opposed to making a joke about the daughter getting knocked up at the Yankees game that WAS present at the Yankees game.

No, that's who Letterman meant to talk about. Which I understand. And I think the explanation that Letterman gave that he meant to be talking about the older one instead of the 14 year old should have been mostly sufficient for someone's from Hannity's POV, though I don't know if Letterman said anything to the effect of "I apologize for putting your younger daughter in that situation".

By talking about Palin bringing her daughter to NYC, Letterman wasn't talking about the older daughter. He was talking about he daughter Palin brought to NYC, which meant Letterman was talking about a 14 year old.

Letterman didn't mean to be talking about the 14 year old. I think we can all agree to that, right? That means he made a mistake. Not a "oh, that wasn't funny" mistake, but a mistake in identifying who he was making the joke about.

That makes sense, right? Letterman, as Jimmy has said, doesn't like to make jokes about underage kids. We can all agree to that, right?

So for Letterman, in his own mind, he made a factual error and made a joke about a 14 year old kid. That goes against Letterman's own rules. That goes against his own sense of what's funny or not.

If it weren't Sarah Palin, a politician he personally dislikes (and it's fine that he does), he would have issued a much more sweeping apology over that kind of misidentification much earlier. You know it and I know it.

Letterman shouldn't be fired over this, and he shouldn't have caught as much heat as he did over it. But he made a mistake, and he was a little slow and grudging over the apology for that mistake.

Letterman didn't mean to be talking about the 14 year old. I think we can all agree to that, right? That means he made a mistake. Not a "oh, that wasn't funny" mistake, but a mistake in identifying who he was making the joke about.

So for Letterman, in his own mind, he made a factual error and made a joke about a 14 year old kid. That goes against Letterman's own rules. That goes against his own sense of what's funny or not.

Letterman shouldn't be fired over this, and he shouldn't have caught as much heat as he did over it. But he made a mistake, and he was a little slow and grudging over the apology for that mistake.
