Former Tennessee Titans (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=ten) quarterback Steve McNair (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=733) has been killed, a source has confirmed to ESPN.com.
McNair, police said, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in downtown Nashville, News Channel 5 in Nashville reported.
McNair played 13 seasons in the NFL, 11 were with the Tennessee Titans. He played his final two years with the Baltimore Ravens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=bal), retiring after the 2007 season.
McNair was picked third overall in the 1995 draft out of Alcorn State by the then Houston Oilers.
I guess the recent rash of deaths decided to creep its way into sports.
I always thought McNair was overrated but what a shitty way to go out.

I'm sure there are bad parts in every city. I've been to Nashville and it was alright where I was, but then again I had no reason to venture into the shitty parts (although we did get lost in a rather sketch part of the city when we were trying to get back on the highway after a Sounds game, it was somewhere near Vanderbilt).
Fucking sad.

That is one the main downtown areas close to all the county bars and what not. Big tourist area. At the rate this is going, I am really glad I am not famous. Downtown is usually very safe. It is the East side of the county that is bad. Where the Sounds play is a bad part of town.

Wow, I just saw this while watching the Phillies game. Apparently, there are some reports that it might be murder-suicide by his wife. None of it is confirmed. What a shitty way to go out.

UPDATE -- A Nashville police spokesman identified the woman as Sahel Kazemi, a "friend" of McNair's. A pistol was found near her body. She suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, police say, and McNair "was shot multiple times."

The Details Surrounding Steve McNair's Death
Mc_tiny by Jimmy on Jul 4, 2009 10:41 PM CDT in News Comment 1 comment
I have been hesitant to write this post because there have been a lot of rumors floating around all day, and the last thing I wanted to do in this case was add fuel to the rumor fire. It does appear now that most of the details have been confirmed.
The police are not calling this a murder-suicide yet, but all of the facts are pointing to that being the case. When the police arrived at the condo that Steve McNair had been renting they found his body on the couch with multiple gunshot wounds. They found the body of 20-year old Sahel Kazemi in the floor with one gunshot to the head. The police apparently did not find the gun until they moved the bodies, which leads me to believe that the gun was under her body. They have not released yet who the gun belongs too.
It has also come out that Kazemi was arrested earlier this week for a DUI in a Cadillac Escalade that was registered in her name, as well as McNair's. McNair was a passenger in the car that night, but no chargers were filed against him.
The autopsies are scheduled for Sunday morning at which point I expect this police to officially rule this a murder-suicide.
August has agreed to put in some weekend time and post some links in the morning. Stay tuned to MCM for all of the latest breaking news.

Exactly, if not for the fact he was on the Titans and constantly killing my Jags he would have been one of my favorite players. I personally have never seen a guy play through so many obvious injuries and perform both facets of the game, without having a world class receiver.

That's what I was thinking, too. She probably didn't want to lose all the crap his money was buying her and snapped. Her truck was apparently bought by him (both of their names are on the registration) and she was getting limo rides home every night. I doubt her Dave & Busters tips could pay to keep living that lifestyle without him.

Every market picks their guys apart, it's just the big cities that make it national news. I can say he was beloved during his time in Baltimore. And I'm reading he initiated divorce proceedings (or his wife did, not sure).

McNair was as good as Aikman. Almost as good as Warren Moon and in the same league as Steve Young (sort of). The only difference is he carried a bad team, and they had people to throw to for their careers. The best he ever had was Derrick Mason. Not exactly Jerry Rice or Michael Irvin.
He'll make the HoF. First ballot.

They got the douche that supplied the chick with the gun:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Federal agents have arrested a convicted murderer for allegedly providing the gun used to kill retired NFL quarterback Steve McNair.
Adrian J. Gilliam Jr., 33, of LaVergne, Tenn., was arrested by agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
A criminal complaint unsealed Friday in Nashville says that Gilliam -- who was convicted of murder and attempted armed robbery in 1993 in Florida -- admitted he sold the gun to the woman who later shot McNair.
McNair was shot to death on July 4 at his condo by his 20-year-old mistress, Sahel Kazemi, who then turned the gun on herself.
The complaint charges Gilliam with illegally possessing a firearm, which he is barred from doing as a felon.
Detectives traced the gun, a 9mm Bryco/Jennings, to its 2002 sale at a pawn shop, according to the complaint. Gilliam eventually bought it from an individual for $100. According to court documents, Gilliam admitted to detectives he sold the gun to Kazemi for $100.

Not everyone agrees:
NASHVILLE — Through the eyes of one man, Steve McNair's chance at the Hall of Fame finished 1 yard short.
Had receiver Kevin Dyson scored in Super Bowl XXXIV and the Tennessee Titans gone on to beat the St. Louis Rams, the former Titans quarterback would've had a good chance of being enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, NFL analyst Jamie Dukes said.
"Looking back, that was 1 yard probably from the Hall," said Dukes, a former offensive lineman with the Falcons who's now with the NFL Network. "With everything else he has done in his career, to be able to add Super Bowl winner to that ... Without that victory, it makes it difficult."
This week, the Tennessean conducted a survey among the selectors, and the results weren't encouraging for those hoping McNair's bust will be in Canton one day. Of the 22 voters who responded, only two said they'd vote for McNair right now, while 16 said they don't believe he has Hall of Fame credentials.
Four more voters said they were undecided and would keep an open mind as part of the process. The committee, made up of sportswriters, has 44 members in all. Dukes doesn't get a vote.
McNair, who was shot and killed July 4, won't be eligible for the Hall of Fame until 2013 — five years after his 13-year NFL playing career ended. He played 11 seasons with the Titans and the final two with the Ravens before retiring in 2008.
"Although Steve was a tremendous leader within the Titans, I don't believe his on-field accomplishments were enough to be selected to the Hall of Fame," said John Czarnecki, of Fox Sports. "A very good player; simply not a great quarterback like Montana and Elway."
John McClain of the Houston Chronicle agrees.
