Cubs fan here as you all know. I say we try to swing a Soriano+ for Doc and get that dream rotation locked in longterm.

The Blue Jays would and should hang up the phone if Soriano is mentioned in the deal. This is a deal that is probably going to cost a team their 3 top prospects and two other minor leaguers. Any team that makes the deal better think long and hard before they do it.

As a Yankees fan, I think I would have to pass on Halladay.

Damn. We just gave up Andy Laroche last year. Wonder if Toronto will settle for Blake DeWitt?

This is verrry tempting. Not sure what Toronto needs, but I'd consider it if I was Colletti. Pierre has really upped his value, but his $10 million price tag is pretty lofty.

As a Mets fan that watched the Twins get anally ***** for Johan Santana, I'll say there's no such thing as a fair trade involving Roy Halladay. Win as many games as you can with him, and take the draft picks if he leaves as a free agent.

This is getting a little play out here in L.A.

For me, untouchables: Ethier, Kemp, Loney, Billingsley, Kershaw, Broxton.

I like Martin a lot, but he's still not hitting. He's from Canada (not that it matters), but send him, Pierre, and a DeWitt or a good young pitcher that also has a froggy last name.

Not near as bad as the Dodgers got raaped on Jason Schmidt.

How'd you like Kershaw's stuff last night?

That's what I heard as well, 2 or 3 of the top ranked club prospects, and 2 other lower level guys.

And you're right, you gotta think hard about that. It's a lot to give up, even if Halladay is signed through 2010. Those prospects are slaves for about 5-6 seasons.

I hear that the Cardinals are in the "Race" on all the sports shows, but I know they're not.

For the Cardinals it'd probably take their #1 prospect Brett Wallace, Daniel Descalso, Clayton Mortensen, and they'd probably like to get their hands on Colby Rasmus.

I wouldn't really want to give up any of them... Plus after 2010, are you willing to hand Halladay something like $115,000,000/5 Years?

Yeah, he really tore through the 'David Wright and a bunch of ninnies' squad, didn't he? :( You know it's bleak when you're waiting with baited breath for Angel Pagan to come back. Jesus.

Really didn't want to slam your team, I'm not that kind of a fan (unless provoked :icon_mrgr).

Just trying to see your reaction to him. He's been a pretty big prospect out here in L.A. and is only 21. His last 4 starts have been pretty great, yet I'm pretty sure most east coasters have never heard of him. He's got a Barry Zito type curve ball that he backs up with +95 mph heat. When he pitches it's cool seeing really great hitters bailing on that curve ball.

Is the price definitely that high? I can't see people giving up that much for a guy that can walk after next season. And they'd have to fork over a shit load of cash if they want to resign him.

At this point I don't think we could trade Soriano for some pine tar and a rosin bag without throwing Aramis Ramirez in the deal.

This is what one of the STL Sportswriters Tweeted today...

- Asked about the price tag for Halladay, a club source said: "Give Ricciardi all our minor-league rosters and let him circle any 5 names."

Thats kinda what I expect to happen.Assuming a deal gets done.

Even so, I'd give Ricciardi the rosters. I'd say the Cardinals have one player, Brett Wallace, who is a "Top Prospect".

Halladay
Carpenter
Wainwright
Lohse
Piniero

That's a hell of a rotation. And then Halladay/Carpenter/Wainwright as a 3 man playoff rotation possibly. Everyone on all the Boards don't want to part with Wallace, but I'd take the shot this season and next over looking ahead to 2012

Halladay's salary next season would be a lot to take on though. STL would have 44 Million locked up in a 4 man starting staff, and 16 Million in Albert.
60 Million for 5 players, 4 of which only play once a week.

I think it would have to include either Billingsley or Kershaw. Doubt that would happen on the Dodgers side.

Considering the original asking price for Santana and the fact that he was only one more year and the fact that you get Halladay for the stretch run AND the year after it probably is this high for a reason. Of course, that would have to be offset at least some by the fact that you would probably have to give Halladay something to waive the no-trade.

Even so, I'd give Ricciardi the rosters. I'd say the Cardinals have one player, Brett Wallace, who is a "Top Prospect".

Shouldn't they be working on getting another hitter. I saw them in Milwaukee last week and holy shit their lineup is fucking pathetic. Then again, they are in the NL.

Walrus is a fucking terrific hitter, don't think they'd want to part with him for Halladay considering the fact that their pitching isn't too much of a problem if they stay healthy.

As a Yankees fan, it would cost Montero and then some. I would have to see what the "and then some" would be before deciding. I think Montero will be an awesome hitter but with the catchers they have (and granted, none of them have anywhere near the offensive upside as Montero) they might be able to afford giving him up. I don't want them to part with a McAllister type though, so I probably would be against it.

Well there is no 'choice' there, They are looking at Pedro to be a 4th or 5th starter, he's not a game changer. I wouldn't mind seeing them get both of them, sure you have to give up a few prospects, but we are coming off a world series, with a definite chance to repeat, or at least stay competitive for the next few years. As much as I like Marsen and Happ, if that and a few prospects is what it takes to upgrade the pitching tremendously, i think ya gotta go for it

Halladay said he wouldn't mind going to NL. He said he would rather hit than face Jeter, A-Rod, Matsui, and Teixeria.
