Who's got tickets? I wound up buying FullBallz's tix (thanks again) and I know JPetrucci has a set with his brother.

Eli's in a contract year, but he expects an extention to be done before the end of the summer.
the NY DA seems to be thinking about filing charges against Pierce, but there's no real news on that front
I think it's going to be an improved defense with all the DL signings and, more importantly, Osi being back. I cannot wait for the season to start

Can't wait for September/October to get here. Stretch run and playoff baseball. Fantasy Football. Colder weather. And the Giants.
One of these years I'll get down to a game but will probably wait for the new Stadium.
Definitely hoping they get the Eli contract done and I'm still a little concerned about the wide receivers. I hope someone steps up to take the big boy receptions.

I am looking forward to this season also. I am hoping they can put it all together this season, and make it to the Super bowl, where they belong.
I am still trying to get tix to week 3, when they invade Tampa Bay. I would so love to see them play here, and root for them.

Ron, check out Big Blue Travel (http://bigbluetravel.com/index.php?b=details&id=72) I went on a trip through them last year down to Dallas...it was really f'in cool. I got to meet Jim Fassel (who has the creepiest smile of all time) and Rodney Hampton. I was drinking beers in the hotel lobby/bar with Hamp while watching the Jets/Bills game.
The packages include air fare, but if you call them you may be able to work something out because you're local.

Did you ask Fassel what his opinion on Trey Junkin was?
I fucking loved Rodney Hampton. I remember watching the entire first round of that 1990 draft since I was hoping the Giants would get Emmitt, but I was happy with Hampton. He became my favorite Giant by default at that point. If I remember correctly, he took his first career in the preseason in for a score. Twelve year old Steam was excited. By the way, my parents hated that I wasted their entire Sunday by making them watch the draft. Fuck them.

I'm sad to see long time Giants like Toomer go, but he just wasn't as fast or productive as he used to be. Sam Madison and RW McQuarters will be missed too, but both those guys are pretty much retired anyway.
I can't wait to see what Nicks can bring to us at WR and the TE they drafted, Travis Beckum, who will be playing more of an H-back role.
I think Bradshaw and Ware can fill in for the departed Ward. Rookie Ronnie Brown is there too, we'll see what he's made of.

Judging from the emotional responses on a popular Giants message board I've been a member of for years and years now (bigblueinteractive.com) the 2003 SF playoff disaster ending with the Trey Junkin bad snap is by far the most painful and brutal loss EVER in team history. Yes, worse than the '89 Flipper Anderson game, worse than the '97 Minny Meltdown, worse than the 2000 Super Bowl. I gets me angry all over again just thinking about it

Minny Meltdown was exceptionally painful, because the "touchdown" that Jake Reed scored with a foot out of bounds was at my end of the stadium, essentially right by our seats (although we were 30 rows back). The San Fran game...all I can say is fuck Johnny Lynn. "Hey lets go into the prevent in the 2nd quarter!" Die.

It probably was my first decent replica as well, but I got the blue. I was a wishy-washy little bitch when it came to football teams when I was growing up. My mom was a Giants fan and my dad liked the Jets. My first football game memory was rooting for the Giants but along the way I liked the Cowboys (my grandmother went to Dallas on a trip and bought me a Cowboys winter hat), the Bears (typical bandwagon jumping but hey Jim McMahon was extremely cool to a seven year old), the Jets (the kid we babysat was a fan), but settled on the Giants for good in '89 once the Bears traded McMahon to the Chargers in August. Of course, that was the year of that fucking Flipper Anderson game. I remember after that faggot scored and just ran into the locker room I went outside and was extremely saddened. It was the worst loss I had watched in my eleven years of living (even worse than Hogan losing to Andre). That Giants team was pretty fucking good and to lose like that was fucking devastating. The Junkin game was fucking awful too but at least we got to watch the epic 1990 (yes I realize it technically took place in '91, damn you NFL) NFC Championship Game against that faggot Niners. I remember how angry my brother got when Matt Bahr kicked that field goal and then threw me and my back right against a door knob. That still didn't take away the euphoria of that kick, Roger Craig's glorious fumble, or Leonard Marshall's destruction of Joe Montana. There was also the 49-3 shallacking after the '86 season. But of course, the 49ers also crushed the Giants in '94 after a good first year by Reeves following the awful Ray Handley era.
Ok, that was a long way to go to just say FUCK FLIPPER ANDERSON!
Minny Meltdown was exceptionally painful, because the "touchdown" that Jake Reed scored with a foot out of bounds was at my end of the stadium,
Another fucking awful game. I just remember going back to college a few weeks later to much laughter from others. But again, we still got to watch that glorious 2000 (once again technically 2001) NFC Championship game. The quick barrage followed by Randy Moss basically quitting was quite a good memory that was tarnished two weeks later by the arrival of Hollywood Sehorn.

More detail....
Ex-Giant Plaxico Burress has been indicted by a New York grand jury on charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
No surprise here. Burress will surrender to authorities, post bail, and set a court date for a possible trial. He will have to decide whether he is willing to go through a trial or work on a plea agreement now. The general consensus is that Burress will face a year in jail at a minimum, but the district attorney is looking for more. Burress' former teammate, Antonio Pierce, was not indicted for his role in the 2008 incident.

Took em long enough, but there was finally a tussle at camp (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2009/08/fight-night-at-u-albany.html)
It's a lengthy read...the gist of it was that the fight was between Hedgecock & Bryan Kehl, the LB we took from BYU last year...wound up going 3 different times
an angry team is a good team
in other news...if Sean O'Hara gets injured we're fucked.
When order was restored, disorder was returned to the snapping game. Tutan Reyes snapped one straight up in the air - - not easy to do in a non-shot-gun snap. Later, Adam Koets - - still working with the first team - - bounced one to the quarterback. This, by the way, is getting ridiculous.
Getting creative along the defensive front
Wondering how the Giants are going to get all their defensive linemen on the field this season? Well, apparently defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan has come up with one creative way. He lined them up in a 5-1-5 alignment at practice today, with DE Justin Tuck as the nose tackle, Jay Alford and Barry Cofield flanking him at tackle, and Mathias Kiwanuka and Osi Umenyiora at the ends.
“And there’s more to come,” Coughlin said. “Guys that are not practicing are part of the package too.”
The idea, Coughlin said, is to use “different alignments to try to create some issues for people.” And apparently Sheridan has many more ideas.
“With Osi back it’ll give us even more flexibility,” Couglin said. “That’s just getting started.”
a 5-1-5? That's going to be nutsy

Help us Shaun O' Hara, you're our only hope.
I dont understand the inability of people to snap a football. I played guard in Pop Warner and Jr. High, when I got to high school I moved to center. It's not that fucking hard to snap the ball. I get that maybe that in the pro's you have alot to think about when you get to the line, but that's why they get there first.
Per Pat Hanlon's twitter:
Chris Snee didn't practice today. He was his leg wrapped.

he doesn't seem like the fastest guy, looks a little slow getting off the line, but from watching practice it seems obvious that he is going to be used as a red zone jump ball target. ANYTHING that is thrown remotely close to him he just jumps over the defensive back and picks it out of the air.

That works for me. From the pics you posted Ramses' hands look like they're like 3/4 the size of the ball. I like it. yeah the football looks like a softball in his hands. Nicks' hands too. Believe it or not, everything you have been reading about Moss is true. He looked very good. Hagan has looked fantastic as well, I think he will beat out Tyree, especially now that Tyree has a hip injury. This kid Shaun Bodiford made a couple of nice plays at WR while I was up there, was able to use his speed to get behind the reserve defensive backs a couple of times. I really do feel very sorry for Tyree, he just can't get a break & there are too many talented WR's on the Giants for him to make it just as a special teamer. Maybe they could attempt to convert him to a free safety or something like that...God knows he can hit.
But with Derek Hagan having an excellent camp and drawing praise from the coaches, it’s getting harder and harder to see where Tyree fits since the Giants are highly unlikely to take more than seven receivers into the season. Special teams are always a possible way for him to sneak onto the roster, but after missing all of last season with a knee injury and with his advancing age, he’s just not as fast as he used to be.
It is still early, though. But Tyree is clearly getting frustrated.
How was your trip up to camp? Were you there for any of the Kehl-Hitchcock fights? How bad is the center position looking behind O'Hara? As bad as Vacchiano is alluding to?

Yeah, that was in the same practice as the ridiculous Barden catch. They went at it, then when Cliff Louis hurt his ankle Coughlin brought the team together to tell them to chill the fuck out. Eli signed his contract extension. 6 years, $97.5
Giants also broke out the Wildcat yesterday at practice...at least for the scout team. Nicks & Andre Brown were in the backfield with Carr split out wide.
C Adam Koets saved his worst for last. Two bad snaps in the Wildcat drills. One went over RB Andre Brown’s head, and the other was high but catchable. … Brown also drew the ire of coaches by throwing a lazy pass in the drill that was picked off by S Kenny Phillips. After much discussion on the sidelines among the reporters, we’ve decided not to count that one as an official interception. So the count stands at 25.

I am real interested to see how the WR core is looks. Obviously losing Plax was huge last year down the stretch, but I refuse to blame the stumbling finish completely on that.
Toomer being gone is an issue for me too because he just always had the ability to make the big catch in the big game with some sort of amazing footwork.
I know Smith won't play, but I will be paying major attention to Moss, Hixon, Barden, Nicks, and Hagan. By the way, that Hixon drop in the Philly playoff game last year still really bothers me.

I still think not having a true #1 WR is going to hurt this season. You can't expect Steve Smith to produce like he has when he's being guarded by the #1corner on every team. Hixon is okay, but he's a slot man at best (as evidenced by his play against teams with good CBs, like Philly). I'm still upset about losin Toomer as well, I wanted his verteran mindset to help along these young kids. I'm excited by what I been hearing about Hagan and Manningham reallu playing well in practice, but we're still going to have to rely pretty much on un-proven plays at WR all year long.

5 Things to Watch for Tonight (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2009/08/five-things-to-watch-in-tonigh-1.html)
1. Can Sinorice Moss do it in a game?
The spring sensation has been having a pretty good summer, right up until a hamstring injury knocked him out for a couple of days. But the only way the 5-8 former second-rounder becomes a staple of the Giants’ offense is if he shows some consistency during games. He’ll start tonight with WR Steve Smith out, and he should see plenty of action, at least in the first half. He’s got speed and he’ll flash it, but he needs to prove he can get open and hold onto the ball. The coaching staff is more than willing to give him an opportunity. Is he willing to take it? If not, Mario Manningham and rookie Ramses Barden have been flashing skills right behind him on the depth chart, and they seem more than willing to step up.
2. Are the shackles really off Kenny Phillips?
A year ago we were all overflowing with excitement of how the 2008 first-rounder seemed to be in on every play and approached receivers like a heat-seeking missle. Visions of Brian Dawkins danced in our heads … until the regular season when Phillips disappeared. Now, he says, the coaching staff has unchained him and we’ll see the real Kenny Phillips, attacking the ball and pounding receivers. The secondary will need that help tonight, since both starting corners (Corey Webster, Aaron Ross) are out with injuries. It will be very interesting to see how aggressive Phillips plays and how effective he is.
3. Can Bryan Kehl open more distance between himself and Gerris Wilkinson?
This battle for the weakside linebacker job (until Michael Boley returns) has been one-sided in camp. Kehl makes play after play and is all over the field whenever he’s out there with the first- or second-team. Wilkinson, meanwhile, has been mostly invisible. Add in the fact that the coaches have grown frustrated with Wilkinson and his injuries over the years, while they were dazzled by Kehl’s potential last season, and you can pretty much see which way this one is going. The only real question is whether Chase Blackburn - - who took some first-team reps at WLB last week - - gets into the mix at all. A good performance by Kehl tonight and the coaches might just stop the first-team rotation and declare this competition over. Then the only mystery will be whether Wilkinson can make the final roster.
4. Should we really not read anything into Clint Sintim getting first-team reps ahead of Danny Clark?
That’s what Tom Coughlin told us after he was asked about Sintim, the rookie out of Virginia (second round), getting some first-team time at strong-side linebacker last week. Coughlin explained that at this stage of camp the coaches are just trying different things. Fine, but what if they work? Clark is a solid player, but the Giants believe Sintim’s ceiling is higher. They also think he can be a dangerous pass rusher, which is why they expected him to be a specialist in that role this season, and little more than that. But the transition from his college 3-4 to the Giants’ 4-3 defense hasn’t seemed to bother Sintim as much as expected. Sure, coaches tinker with different things, but they don’t usually tinker with the lineup without a purpose in mind. Maybe Sintim won’t get Clark’s job, but a few big preseason plays could earn him a lot more time on the field.
5. Can David Tyree defy the odds and salvage his Giants career?
Come on now, admit it: You’re rooting for Tyree. How could you not after what he did in Super Bowl XLII? A nice guy (and I’m not just saying that because he went to Syracuse) and a clutch player, he’s fighting a bad numbers game. He’s eighth on a depth chart that will likely eventually carry only six or seven receivers. He’s not having a particularly good training camp either, and his primary competition for the last spot - - Derek Hagan - - is having a terrific summer. But they don’t call Tyree a “gamer” for nothing. He’s a bad practice player who performs when the lights go on. Now he’s going to have to. He has Coughlin in his corner, but the coach is a pragmatist. If Tyree can’t perform, it will be a tough cut for Coughlin to make, but he will cut him. Tyree needs a big performance in these preseason games. Chances are the coaches will make sure he gets plenty of opportunities. It’s a good bet he’ll get a huge cheer from the Giants Stadium crowd every time he makes a catch.

I didn't realize that Kiwi isn't wearing 97 anymore...apparently he's wearing 94 & Sintim's in 97
Beatty didn't look too bad, Carr held onto the ball a bit much, but no more than he did last year.

Sintim looked better than decent, he was unblockable! 33 is Allen Patrick, the new #4 RB after Brown got hurt. I agree about Beatty, he looked exactly like a rookie OLT looks in his first game, and both of the sacks on Carr were all on him. He needs to get rid of the damn ball!
all in all, 1st string offense looked good (even with all the players out), and the defense looks like its going to be fucking amazing. Both starting CBs were out, as well as a starting LB, a couple of DTs, and they just didn't miss a beat.

So apparently Osi chose to be a bitch and skipped out on practice yesterday. Turns out he has a difference of opinion/philosophy with DC Sheridan. An "anonymous source" said...
It's camp fatigue. They spent way too much time together this summer.
then he came back and apologized later
I made a mistake by leaving the facility today. I was wrong. I came in here this afternoon and met with coach Coughlin, coach Sheridan and coach Waufle and apologized and explained why I left the building; that will remain between us. I have no problem with our defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan or any of our coaches. That’s the end of it, as far as I am concerned
They put Andre Brown on IR and cut TE Lee Vickers and waived/injured OL Andrew Carnahan. That puts them down to 74 guys on their roster...so they expect to make a waiver claim on someone later today

I happened to be up in Bridgeport this weekend so I got a chance to see the game against the Jets and I gotta say I am alot more nervous after this one than I was after the Carolina game about the Wr position.
The drop by Smith on the bomb sent me into a traumatic flashback of Hixon from the Eagles playoff game. I live in D.C. so I have been talking shit with Skins fans since the schedule came out about the game next week. And all conversations/shit talking on their part always winds up with a Plaxico mention. I always point out the Giants beat both Super Bowl teams and the Skins on the roaad without Plax last year so the other Wr's on the team are fully capable. And with a run game that the Giants have everything will be fine.
But amongst other Giants fans I have to say I am fucking nervous about this season at that postion. I can't wait till next fucking Sunday. If this group is going to do anything this year, doing it against a top 5 defense of the SKins with 3 quality corners Smoot, Rogers and Hall is the way to do it.
There is nothing like opening the season with back to back NFC East Games.

I think Smith should still be the #1, Nicks should be 2, Hixon 3 and Moss 4. Any starting CBs in the league will eat Moss' lunch, his only chance is to match up on a nickel or dime corner, or a LB or slow safety.

http://nyc.3432.voxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/burress2.jpg
NY Post (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/regional/brooklyn/so_much_for_packing_um_rod_jXKO6I6jK3RgVNDNWClDoI) - It’s a lesson he should have learned from Plaxico Burress — but this was worse. A 15-year-old Brooklyn boy shot himself in the penis Sunday after fumbling with a gun that had slid from his waistband, authorities said yesterday. Khamir Grant was then arrested for reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon — the same charges levied against Burress, who shot himself at a Manhattan nightclub in 2008, law-enforcement sources said. Grant told cops that he was walking home from Amersfort Park at East 39th Street and Avenue J in East Flatbush around 1:30 a.m., when the gun began to fall into his pants, sources said. When Grant grabbed for it, he accidentally pulled the trigger, firing a bullet right through his penis. Grant staggered home and told his mom what had happened, sources said. They took a livery car to Kings County Hospital, where Grant was released after treatment and then arrested by police.
I don’t know what’s worse – shooting your dick off with a gun or limping home to your mom and having to tell her you shot your dick off with a gun. Actually, scratch that, blowing your dick off with a firearm is definitely worse. Like just about the worst thing you can do to yourself. If I ever destroy my penis like that I’m taking that gun and immediately putting a bullet right in the back of my head.

Nicks out for 2-3 weeks (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2009/09/initial-diagnosis-nicks-out-2-.html)
Initial diagnosis: Nicks out 2-3 weeks
The Giants will anxiously await the results of the MRI on Hakeem Nicks’ “sprained” left foot tomorrow morning, however according to an NFL source the initial expectation is that the rookie receiver will be out 2-3 weeks.
That, of course, is only the preliminary diagnosis. Though the source, who has been briefed on Nicks’ injury, did insist that “He will be OK”, he also added that Nicks and the Giants were “hoping for the best.” It appears that the Giants do not believe that Nicks suffered a Lis Franc injury, only that he suffered a “sprain.”
X-Rays were negative, but that is the case sometimes when a Lis Franc injury occurs.
Even 2-3 weeks is a blow to Nicks, who suffered through a strained hamstring in camp and hoped to get off to a fast start this season. It continues a terrible run of luck for Giants rookie receivers over the last 2 1/2 decades. Nicks looked like he had a chance to become the first rookie to catch more than 16 passes for the Giants since 1984.

After MRI, Nicks out 2-3 weeks (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2009/09/source-after-mri-nicks-still-o.html)
The initial diagnosis of rookie WR Hakeem Nicks was that he suffered only a sprained left foot and would be out 2-3 weeks. According to an NFL source who spoke with Nicks today, that diagnosis is the same even after he underwent and MRI.
According to the source, the MRI seemed to rule out the dreaded Lis Franc injury - a fracture or dislocation of the ligaments in the Lis Franc joint on the top of the foot - which could’ve sidelined Nicks for the entire season. Nicks said after the game that most of the pain he was feeling was on the bottom of his foot, though Tom Coughlin said the trainers told him there were issues on both the bottom and the top.
Though it’s not known where the sprain is, doctors apparently have told Nicks he could expect to be out 2-3 weeks. It’s possible that he could be out a little longer, depending on how quickly he heals, but it’s not likely he’d be back before that time frame ends.
alas, Ross is still going to be out next week against Dallas :mad4:

Giants signed Gartrell Johnson from the Chargers. 5'11" 218lbs...apparently is primarily an inside short-yardage back. Instead of promoting Allen Patrick...they cut him from the practice squad. Danny Ware is supposed to be out for 2 weeks with his dislocated elbow.
Webster gets schooled on right and wrong (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2009/09/webster-gets-schooled-on-fight.html)
Giants cornerback Corey Webster is one of the last guys anyone on the team would expect to get into an on-field fight, but that’s exactly what happened early in the second quarter on Sunday. Webster got into a slapping/shoving match with Redskins receiver Santanta Moss.
And his actions earned him a personal foul and got him in a little post-game hot water.
No, not with Tom Coughlin … with Webster’s 4-year-old nephew.
Webster, upon his return to the locker room, noticed a text from his nephew’s father that read “Your nephew wants to talk to you about the fight.” It wasn’t a phone call that Webster was looking forward to.
“You never want to display nothing like that on the field,” Webster said. “I don’t know how everybody else feels, but I have a little boy that’s four, my nephew that’s four and a nephew that’s six, and my nephew called me up and said ‘That’s not right.’ So I have to have a conversation with him when he gets off from school. It’s like he’s the parent. He’s trying to tell me it’s not right.”
Webster said it wasn’t easy to figure out what to say to his nephew, especially when he knew he was wrong. It may have been unavoidable and it’s true that “It’s in the heat of battle and things like that happen,” Webster said. It’s also true that Webster only responded to Moss, who was the instigator. Webster said he tried to avoid swinging back because “I know in that situation we only have three corners so I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize my team.”
Webster also earned some points for not swinging after Moss’ helmet popped off. But as his nephew told him, those points only go so far because wrong is wrong. There’s really no getting around that, especially when it comes to setting an example for kids.
“That didn’t look good,” Webster said. “I understand.”

This. As soon as Dallas scored I said, "It's okay, Eli will get us down the field to win with a field goal." That's what he does. People like to shit on him because he doesn't put up good numbers, but he wins games when it matters. i'll take his 54% completion percentange and a win over all the sexy stats in the worlds that Rivers and Romo put up. yeah, that was one major problem...going into the red zone like that and only coming out with 9 points was a major issue. What's the deal with the running game? Jacobs just hasn't gotten started yet at all. He's not an outside running back, slam him between the tackles. Wear down their DL, then have Bradshaw beat them to the outside

The problems in the red zone really were concerning. It was partly due to Dallas stuffing the running game, so that kind of took away playaction down there but still, it was not good. I dont see why they dont put Barden or Beckham in and let Eli throw the back shoulder fade to them, that's one of his best throws. And I can't agree with you more about running Jacobs wide, they run that stupid stretch play to him once a game, and it never works, by the time Eli gets over to him and he turns his body upfield to get going, he's tackled and dropped for a loss.
Any news on Tuck? The pass rush really suffered without him. That was a patchwork defense we won with yesterday too. No Canty, No Ross, No Tuck, Boley's first game with us (he played very well too).
And I'm sorry - but Osi got exposed once Tuck went down. The Cowboys ran like a mile on the Giants once he went down. I hope Tuck doesn't miss much time...they need him.
They ran away from Osi mostly though, right at Kiwi. Then Coughlin pulled Kiwi for Tollefson and we had no pass rush. (or run d, because Tollefson is not very good)

To my knowledge, no there is not. But that really was an ultra-scumbag move. Flozell Adams has always been a dirty lineman though, I can see sometimes your footwork will trip a guy up, but that was blatant. A few years ago, Brian Dawkins took out Shockey for like most of the season with a cheap shot, and I dont remember him getting fined or anything for it.

Tuck pissed at Flozell (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2009/09/tuck-ticked-but-ready-for-tamp.html)
Justin Tuck’s injured left shoulder was still hurting after last night’s game. And he absolutely blamed Cowboys left tackle Flozell Adams for what he called a “bush league” play.
Tuck hurt his shoulder in the first half of the Giants’ 33-31 win when he appeared to beat Adams with an inside move and the tackle stuck out his right leg and tripped him. At first it appeared that Tuck injured his right knee - - which is where Adams’ kick hit him. But Tuck actually fell awkwardly on his left shoulder and hurt it bad enough that he left Cowboys Stadium wearing a sling.
“I think it was bush league,” Tuck said when asked what he thought of the play. “He did it a few times in that game. Unfortunately he didn’t get called the other times.”
Asked if he wanted to see Adams punished, Tuck said “I would’ve liked to have the rest of the game to punish him for that, but it didn’t happen.”
Tuck said Adams is known around the league for that “bush league” maneuver. “He’s athletic so he can make it look like an accident. But when it happens to you over and over again …”
As for the injury, Tuck said that he was “fine” but that his shoulder “hurts”
“All that matters is that I’m playing next week,” Tuck said. “You can believe I’ll be there. Just write that it hurts.”
Round 2: Jacobs vs. Columbo
RB Brandon Jacobs had a rough game that apparently got a little worse after the final gun, when he was apparently shoved from behind by Cowboys RT Marc Columbo at some point during the postgame handshake.
Jacobs, who at first declined to talk to the media but later relented, didn’t seem to know why Columbo hit him, but he obviously wasn’t happy. “I better not see him anywhere,” an angry Jacobs said.
Asked what he would do if he did see Columbo, Jacobs said “I’m just going to let him know that it was a real disrespectful thing for him to do.”
Hixon misses last three quarters
Giants WR Domenik HIxon suffered what the team called a sprained knee during the first quarter last night. He did not return to the game, though he was eventually back on the sidelines. Tom Coughlin said he had no updates on any of the injuries after the game.

He's also one of the biggest weapons the Giants have. He's money inside the 20 everytime we punt from bad field position. Less than inside the 10 is almost surprising when he punts from around midfield.

That was just plain sick.
couple good points from Ralph Vacchiano
Not to put a damper on the excitement, but the Giants’ 0-for-5 performance in the red zone (0 for 8, now, on the season) nearly cost them this game. They’ve got to figure out a way to move the ball and score down there. I thought they were going to get creative early when rookie TE Travis Beckum was on the field for their first trip inside the red zone. But Kevin Gilbride’s plays were predictable. And, come on: Dusting off a red-zone swing pass to FB Madison Hedgecock instead of running a fade to 6-6 rookie Ramses Barden? I know Barden isn’t ready for a big role, but would it really be difficult to line him up in the slot and say “Run a fade to the back corner…then use your 7-foot-plus reach to catch the damn ball”?
43-year-old Jeff Feagles landed three of his five punts inside the 20, including one that went out of bounds at the 5. I keep saying this, so I might as well say it again: He’s better and more consistent at his specific job than any athlete I’ve ever covered. I’d say the Giants should reti re his number, but he think he’s worn five different ones in his seven years with the team.

Oh and as if you guys had any reason to love Jacobs more....
Jacobs sounds off on Jerry Jones: Last week, running back Brandon Jacobs told me that the Cowboys should have scheduled the Lions instead of the Giants for the stadium opener. And Sunday, he tried to explain to me where his hatred for the Cowboys comes from.
"I hate the Cowboys straight up," Jacobs told me. "It's beginning to be a personal thing. And it's been like that since I was a kid. I've been wishing bad things on them for a long time. I was a hateful little kid. Everyone loves them, so I had to hate them."
Asked what he thought about the new stadium, Jacobs said: "It's a beautiful place. It was nice of Jerry to invite us down here. But he better be careful what he asks for next time. Last year, [Jones] said he wanted to play us on Broadway, and then he got his ass beat. They got whooped 35-14 on Broadway."

I loved the way this guy plays. He is a prototypical U safety following the likes of Sean Taylor and Ed Reed to All Pro status. I have to believe they shut him down for the year because it is the best for him in the long run because it seemed to me that he was looking forward to playing hurt all year.
CC Brown is a vet and I just hope he can fill in nicely and them not miss a beat. But even on some of those long runs the Cowboys had, if you saw Phillips run into the screen you knew he was going to be able to take down the runner without issue.

Long Term prospects depend on severity (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2009/09/long-term_prospects_for_ny_gia.html)
When Giants safety Kenny Phillips was placed on injured reserve with a left knee injury this afternoon, the diagnosis the team revealed was patellofemoral arthritis -- a condition in which the the cartilage has worn down behind the kneecap, where it sits against the femur.
Since that is a joint that carries a lot of stress, it is a challenging condition for a football player and can result in lingering pain and discomfort. But the long-term prospects of playing with the condition vary widely depending on its severity in a player, which can only be determined by the doctors who examined him.
"It's premature to say it's career-ending unless you had the information (for the player)," said one physician and sports medicine expert, who asked to remain anonymous because they have not examined Phillips and do not know the specifics of his case. "It's a challenging problem to deal with. It's not something that’s going to likely go away; it's something he's going to have to deal with. But career-ending is kind of hard -- if it's significant, it can be career-threatening."
The doctor stressed there is "a lot of variation" in cases of patellofemoral arthritis, depending on how large the defect in the cartilage is.
For less severe conditions, the problem can be managed -- like the Giants had been doing with Phillips since the issue first came up in training camp -- by trying injections of anti-inflammatories or lubricants, rest to see if the swelling in the joint quiets down or a brace to control the movement of the kneecap. If the knee continues to swell or the condition is more severe, that's when surgery is considered.
This seems to be in line with Phillips' timeline. He tried to manage the condition for several weeks, but after an MRI Wednesday revealed it had worsened, was placed on IR and will consider surgery. According to a source, while a treatment plan for Phillips has not yet been decided upon, microfracture surgery has been discussed.
According to the doctor consulted for this article, what microfracture surgery would do is help to regenerate a new lining on the bone. This is achieved by picking at the bone to create small microfractures in the surface, causing it to bleed and stimulating the growth of new cartilage.
"It hopefully regrows some of the cartilage so he can go through his career," the doctor said. "It's never as good as the original, but it is kind of something to buy some time, get a lining on it."
That objective seems to jibe with the comments made by the Giants, who expressed disappointment over losing Phillips for the year but optimism he will be a contributor for the team in future seasons. Coach Tom Coughlin said in the team's release that Phillips' problem needed to be corrected but "I’m sure he’ll rehab and be back with us in the spring."
Added Phillips: "Longevity is the key, so this is why we are going through with it."
According to the doctor, patellofemoral arthritis could result from a prior instance when the kneecap was dislocated or shifted, a direct blow to the knee or multiple smaller injuries. It's possible, the doctor added, that his condition is not full-blown arthritis and has started as a break in the cartilage.
Phillips said he is unsure exactly when the condition first developed. He noticed swelling in his knee at some point during training camp, but chalked it up to the usual nicks and bruises.
Without the specifics, a long-term prognosis is difficult to determine. The bottom line, though, is that while patellofemoral arthritis can present a challenging road for an NFL player, the road has not necessarily reached a dead end.
"It definitely can be very troublesome; it's definitely not a good injury to have," the doctor said. "But it depends on how big the break in the cartilage is, where on the weight-bearing surface, things like that."
Drew Rosenhaus is saying that the injury is NOT career threatening (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2009/09/agent-phillips-injury-not-career-threatening.html), but that's just what agents are supposed to do.

Only thing I am kind of perturbed about is how Jacobs is approaching the line. He doesn't seem to flying up to the line of scrimmage...it's almost as if he's looking for the hole to develop & then go through it, instead of how in years past he saw the beginning of the hole & then burst through. Apparently Chase Blackburn had what looked like a high ankle sprain on Sunday...apparently he practiced today and is fine.
The real story is that Kenny Phillips had surgery on his knee (http://www.phillips21.com/blog.html) yesterday by Dr. James Andrews
I had the surgery yesterday with Dr. James Andrews in Alabama. Now I’m flying back to New Jersey so I can start my rehab right away.
I don’t remember anything because I was under anesthesia. My knee is wrapped up and I have a brace and crutches. They gave me a lot of meds. The knee doesn’t really hurt right now, but the meds are making me feel sick.
This kind of injury takes a long time to heal. It’s a long process, I can’t even run for 4-5 months. It’s going to be a while before I’m back to 100 percent.
At first this whole thing really threw me. I mean, we got off to a good start, I had a good training camp, we’re undefeated, everything was going the right way and then the injury occurred.
I thought this was going to be a great year for me and the team. To no longer be a part of the team, it hurts, it really does. But I believe that everything happens for a reason. I feel God has something better in store for me so all I can do is wait.
I won’t be at the games on the sidelines. I’ll probably watch at home on TV. But I’ll be at the facility first thing tomorrow to start my rehab. Nothing major at first, just icing and massages. I might get off these crutches in about 8 weeks.
All of you fans out there, hold on. I’m going to make a speedy recovery, and I’ll be back better than ever next year. Keep believing and pray for me.
i read on my blackberry that bradshaw was wearing a boot and didnt practice today. they said it was soreness from an old injury. he probaly will be able to play sunday. i think they should rest him so he doesn't really injure himself.

This from Rotoworld: Eli Manning was at the Giants practice facility Tuesday, getting treatment on his right foot.
Manning says he's just getting ice and electrical stimulation on the foot. He said yesterday he plans on playing Sunday against Oakland and is hoping to practice Wednesday. The Giants continue to dispute a report that Eli was going for a second opinion on his injured plantar fascia. We're expecting him to be a game-day decision.

I had plantar fascitis a few years back also, playing basketball and it definitely does hurt like a bitch. It also took me like 6-8 weeks to get rid of the pain fully. That being said, I'm not a well paid, professional athlete nor did I have the benefit of a cortizone shot before running on it. It's not fun, but I don't think it should effect Eli's game much. I still wouldn't mind him resting against Oakland though.

Yeah, I wouldn't be shocked if Coughlin wants him to sit out. Am I comfortable with David Carr in at QB? Fuck no. Do I think the Giants could win with him handing the ball off to Jacobs & Bradshaw? Yeah, more than likely

from rotoworld
Giants WLB Michael Boley is expected to miss "a few weeks" after injuring his knee in the team's Week 4 win.
New York's outstanding depth will again come in handy. Boley had 15 tackles, a sack, and two pass breakups since returning from his Week 1 suspension, but Bryan Kehl and Chase Blackburn are adequate options to replace him.
Apparently it's longer than just a few...he's going to be out for a month apparently. He had surgery this morning to repair a torn meniscus. Hopefully Kehl can provide a similar amount of pressure on the QB this weekend

Top Ten reasons why it's great to root for the Giants (http://www.bigblueview.com/2009/10/8/1073608/top-10-reasons-its-great-to-root?ref=yahoo)
It seems that being happy about being a fan of the New York Giants, and enjoying the amazing ride they have been on in recent seasons, has been a theme for me recently.
In reality, you have to look no further than the four teams the Giants have already played this season -- and the one they will play Sunday -- for reasons why being a Giants fan in 2009 is a beautiful thing.
Here, after that lengthy buildup, is a list of 10 reasons why it's great to be a Giants fan.
Our head coach might be in the Hall of Fame one day. The head coach of this Sunday's opponent might be heading to jail.
The quarterbacks for our first five opponents -- Jason Campbell, Tony Romo, Byron Leftwich, Matt Cassel and Jamarcus Russell. Our guy -- Eli Manning.
One more coach comment. Their guys -- Jim Zorn, Wade Phillips, Raheem Morris, Todd Haley, Tom Cable. Our guy -- Tom Coughlin.
Them -- Jerry Jones, Dan Snyder, Al Davis. Us -- the Maras and Tisches.
Most noteworthy thing the Cowboys have done this decade -- build a big video board. Most noteworthy Giants' accomplishment -- a Super Bowl title.
The GMs for all those other teams -- who cares, he's not Jerry Reese.
Bruce Springsteen wrote a song about our house. Those other guys well, they get to write yearly epitaphs on how their seasons end in failure.
Those teams have cheerleaders and we don't, but that gives us an excuse to spend extra time ogling them. Oh, and we do still have Reby Sky, our favorite 'NY Giants Girl (http://nygiantsgirl.com/)'.
http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/185018/Reby_with_Teddy_Bear_medium.jpg
Giants fans don't have to dress like a Hell's Angel -- or a hog -- to go to the games.
Our QB isn't on TMZ more than ESPN.
My thanks to our man Jim for helping me out with a couple of these. His, umm, warped sense of reality came in handy. Anyway, feel free to add some of your own.

He hasn't practiced the last two days, but said he can play. He also said he wouldn't play if he couldnt run the entire game plan or would risk making the injury worse. I'd be okay with him sitting. I think the defense is good enough (and the Raiders are bad enough) we can get a win with Carr.

I hope Eli plays Sunday. What concerns me is how sudden this injury came about. He wasn't touched at all. Was he in any pain when he woke up that day? I had Plantar and it sucks but I got it as a side effect of Human Growth Hormone. I would wake in the morning and it would be really bad but as I stretched it out it was bearable during the day. I love Eli and I really hope he isn't using Human Growth Hormone, and if he is I hope he doesnt get caught. He does seem to heal quickly. hmmm....
Another side effect of HGH is Carpal Tunnel so if Eli gets that I'll be real suspicious.

I got my plantar injury out of nowhere too. I was just slowly bringing the ball up court and all of a sudden my foot was killing me. It's not an injury that happens from being hit, or touched at all. It's from moving in an awkward way. Eli is a bit of a goofy spaz, he dropped back and fucked up his foot. It's a freak injury. Making the jump to his using HGH is just preposterous. HGH really wouldn't benefit a QB much, aside from the help healing. It dries up you cartilage and fucks up your joints. I don't think Eli would risk getting big, or healing a couple weeks early. Plus, the only other injury he had was in 2007 when he banged up his shoulder. He came back quick from that, yeah, but not suspicious.

Looks like Jacobs is getting frustrated (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2009/10/jacobs-frustration-is-upon-me.html) with his own lack of production
The more everyone sees of Ahmad Bradshaw this season, the more everyone wonders: What’s wrong with Brandon Jacobs? And five games into the season it sure does seem like something is wrong.
Even, apparently, to him.
“I expect more as well,” Jacobs said earlier today on The Brandon Tierney Show on ESPN Radio (1050 AM) in New York. “I don’t know what it is. I’m going in, working hard, I’m working hard at practice. I go out in the game and give it my all, man. I’m just waiting for it all to come together, just trying to be patient and hang in there.”
That’s fine, but five games into the season, Jacobs has rushed for just 355 yards on 100 carries. His 3.6 yards per carry average is way below the 5.0 averages he had in each of the last two years. It’s also only marginally higher than the 3.4 average he said would have to improve or he’d quit.
And most notably, it’s also way below the 6.5 yards per carry Bradshaw is averaging. Bradshaw’s got 375 yards so far this season on just 58 carries so far, and as I told you a few weeks ago he’s playing like the Giants’ true No. 1 back.
Clearly, Bradshaw is making more out of less, if nothing else. That was evident against the awful Raiders on Sunday when Jacobs struggled for 67 yards on 21 carries, while Bradshaw breezed to 110 yards on 11 carries. And it was really evident on the first series when Jacobs failed to break through to the end zone from the 5, the 2 and the 1 yard lines.
Then Jacobs came out with what the Giants said was a “burner” - - much to the delight of the home crowd - - and Bradshaw came in and went into the end zone with ease.
“I’m just being patient and trying not to get too frustrated,” Jacobs said. “Frustration is very much upon me, I’m going to be honest.”
OK, so he’s frustrated. I think we get that. But what’s wrong? Why is he struggling, when Bradshaw - - behind the same line and against the same defenses - - is having such an impressive year?
“This year, people know what we like to do,” Jacobs said. “And Ahmad is more … he can bounce around in those little creases and cracks and make a lot of big plays. Do I have the ability to do that? Yes. If I try to make plays like that, because I’m 265, 275 pounds, I’m not supposed to be doing that. Get it up there, hit into somebody, that’s what people want to see me do. If I don’t do it, I get criticized, if I do do it, I get criticized. I can’t win.
“Right now my stats aren’t very good, and people want to know why. That’s why,” Jacobs added. “Because I have the ability to make plays with my feet, but when I try to, it’s the worst thing. I’m scum of the earth when I do that."

Jacobs hasn't been amazing this year, but he's been adequate. I don't care WHO gets the yards, as long as the running game works. I think the change of pace and style that Bradshaw brings in after Jacobs comes out is one of the reasons he's breaking big runs. Also, Jacobs can be more effective as the year gets deeper (as long as he's healthy) because D lineman will start tiring out.
This week starts the real games again. I hope Ross comes back soon, it's going to be hard to stop Brees and the Saints with the patchwork secondary they been running out there so far. At least Dockery will be playing, though. Any news on Canty?

Here's my theory on the Jacobs situation. It's very similar to what Ward was doing last year when basically people were saying the same thing. Right now when the defense sees him in the ball game they stack the line with more men in the box, especially with Plax gone. This is allowing Eli to pick them apart with single coverage on almost all receivers in the pattern. Thus the crazy numbers for Smith.
When Bradshaw comes in they back off knowing that the threat of a pass is greater as well as the swing pass and Bradshaw is running against less than 8 man fronts. As the season wears on and people start dropping back into more coverages because Eli is destroying them is when BJ will start ripping those 5-7 yard runs at a clip that everyone is used to.
Now go beat the fucking overrated Saints.

Overrated Saints? The Giants stats are all based on their wins over teams like the Bucs and Raiders. That's the very definition of "overrated". 5 teams that have 6 wins between them. I wouldn't get ahead of yourself, especially based on this year's performance numbers, against those teams.

I saw Plax make that same play where Hixon came up small on the deep ball that was picked, and a couple other 1 on 1 routes where Eli threw it up because of blitzes that just weren't taken advantage of by the receivers.

Holy shit! There was a Chris Canty sighting (http://erniepalladinosgiantsbeat.blogspot.com/) at practice!!
EXCLUSIVE PICS!!!
http://bloggingexperiments.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/patterson_bigfoot.jpg
and from what I've heard, Westbrook hasn't been ruled out for Sunday, concussion or no
Why do I feel like if Brian Westbrook had one leg, he'd still play against the Giants? And rack up 300 yards.

Bradshaw has a cracked bone in his foot
(http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/#ixzz0VQwVJcSW)After visiting Charlotte-based foot specialist Dr. Robert Andrews, Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw will continue to play despite having a cracked bone on the outside of his right foot. But he remains one bad step away from suffering a potentially season-ending injury, which could happen if the crack breaks all the way through the bone.
“It’s a cracked bone in my foot, on the outside of my foot, which is probably the easiest bone to break. There’s a chance of it breaking all the way through the bone. If it does, I’ll have to get surgery then,” Bradshaw said Thursday afternoon at the Giants’ practice facility at the Meadowlands. “If it breaks, it does, and I’ll get surgery. If not, I’ll wait to the end of the season and hopefully then I won’t need it. But more than likely I’ll plan on having surgery.”
For now, Bradshaw is just “very relieved to hear that I’m going to be on the field."

With the QB situation in Washington, you might get more points from an injured Bradshaw.
I hear tell Manningham fucked up his shoulder in practice today too. Don't know how serious, but it can't be good.

Disgusting game. At least Jacobs looked good for the few carries he got. Not having Manningham hurt. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, Domenik Hixon is not good if he has to be anything more than a #3 WR. And can we officially call Sinorice Moss a bust and ship hsi ass out of here yet? Hopefully the Giants can actually show up and beat the Chargers on Sunday. They need a win badly to at least get the taste of the last three weeks out of their mouth before heading into the bye week. And if there is any hope, Canty, Boley, & even Ross will finally recover enough to be back in the line-up when they play the Falcons

They need a win badly to at least get the taste of the last three weeks out of their mouth before heading into the bye week.
Now they gotta spend the bye week getting the taste of Rivers's nuts out of their mouth.
I'm not really understanding this team. Eli had decent numbers today, they ran the ball 25+ times for 115 yards or so. You'd think they would have won the game.

Now that the Yankees season is over I can turn my attention to the Giants. How the fuck do you get an Interception to the motherfucking 4 yard line, up 3 with 3 minutes left and wind up kicking a 36 yard field goal. How about a shot to the end zone Gilbride to put the fucking game on ice. And then Sheridan that piece of shit. Coughlin should fire him immediately. I am not usually the type of person calling for coordinators heads but this guy is fucking worthless. Tim Lewis is shaking his head at the calls that guy made on that final drive. How is Vincent Jackson running wide open on the td with no one near him. Why is Sproles being covered by Boley 1 on 1 down the seam. God fucking damnit. 6 wins going into the bye is manageable because at least you are tied with wins with the division lead. 5 wins and your a game and a half out and fighting for a wild card. If their season is gonna be anything this year, a win over Atlanta in 2 weeks is a must. Because tiebreakers for the Wild Card is gonna be huge.

problems in this game for the giants
they played better than the last 3 losses however, the playcalling was shit all game, the crowd groans everytime eli changes a play at the line but fans don't know how to read a defense so they just need to shut the fuck up.
being there live and not seeing a replay, what happened on the first fg attempt? make that field goal and u would've won by 2.
is feagles too old now or are they telling him where to put cuz every punt but 2 were horrendous and one that was good was called back. He looked fine in warmups but he's kicking 30 yd punts out of bounds at midfield constantly the last few weeks. They cover kicks fairly well why not just bomb it and see what happens.
penalties....wtf, stop being stupid, the last td drive every first down was at least a 1st and 20. Hey corey webster, stop being stupid.
I know ross is out but does every d-back have to just stand around and wait for the receivers to catch the ball and then tackle them
antonio gates is the best tight end in the nfl yet he is wide open by 15 yds 3 times? learn to coach a defense.
this team is more than capable of going 5-2 to end the season but they have some serious work to do over the next 2 weeks

Wow...Tommy Coughlin actually admitted that the play calling on that last drive was dogshit (http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2009/11/ny_giants_coach_tom_coughlin_c_1.html)
NY Giants coach Tom Coughlin concedes questionable play-calling in loss to San Diego Chargers
Tom Coughlin often bristles when challenged in his day-after chats with reporters about certain calls or decisions made during the previous day’s game. But there are also plenty of times when he concedes things could have been handled differently.
Monday, when asked about the possibility of throwing for the end zone instead of a screen pass, two running plays and settling for a field goal — not a game-clinching touchdown — late in the loss to the Chargers, Coughlin didn’t put up a fight at all.
“Well, there’s no doubt,” the Giants’ coach said of the series that began with a first-and-goal from the San Diego 4-yard line but was immediately backed up by a holding penalty. “You have a sense at that point in time the game is there to be won and a touchdown would have done that. I wouldn’t argue with you on that at all.”
Terrell Thomas’ interception return put the Giants in scoring position, but the field goal was a bit of a disappointment. Still, it gave the Giants a 20-14 lead with 2:07 remaining and forced the Chargers to take two of their three timeouts, meaning they’d have only one left as they attempted to go 80 yards on their final drive (which they were able to do).
The field goal wasn’t the worst outcome for the Giants, who were worried about an interception. But it certainly wasn’t the best, either, as a touchdown there would have sealed the game.
But the Giants chose not to test the Chargers’ defense, which backed up three defensive backs to defend the end zone and force the Giants into running plays — at least some of which were called at the line of scrimmage.
“You can look back at it and say you would do something differently, but you would be shooting yourself today if you threw it twice and stopped the clock and all of a sudden they have 3:25 left and three timeouts going into that drive,” quarterback Eli Manning said. “You would be saying that we didn’t do the right thing. You’ve got to try to make some plays and make something happen and we didn’t do it.”
As for the holding penalty, which was called against guard Chris Snee for taking down Garfield grad and Chargers defensive end Luis Castillo, Coughlin said plays like that could “go either way” and added: “I just hate to see something like that — a call made like that — to determine really what amounts to the outcome of the game in the long run.”
LB Gerris Wilkinson underwent surgery Monday to repair a dislocated wrist suffered on Sunday.
With an expected recovery time of 6-8 weeks, Wilkinson is likely headed to injured reserve, meaning his season is likely over. The 2006 third-round pick is also in the final year of his contract, so his Giants career might also have come to an end as well.
The Giants are only the second team in league history to start a season 5-0 and lose the next four. The other team to do so was the 1989 Rams, who finished the season 11-5 after winning five of their last six games.
Coughlin said the No. 1 focus for the offense and defense during this week’s bye will be the red zone, where both sides of the ball have struggled.

Pierce out "indefinitely" with bulging disc (http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/giants/2009/11/pierce-out-indefinitely-with-b.html)
By Ralph Vacchiano
Antonio Pierce, the Giants’ defensive leader and starting middle linebacker, is out of Sunday’s game and out “indefinitely” according to to the team due to a bulging disc in his neck.
That stunning news was delivered from the team this evening after Pierce returned from an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York late this afternoon. According to the team, he had been experiencing some discomfort in practice this week, which they believe is related to a burner he suffered in the loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 25.
Pierce, the team said, had experienced “very little discomfort” since that injury, but the change in his status prompted the medical staff to send him for the tests. After the MRI, he was examined by Dr. Russell Warren, the Giants’ doctor, and Dr. Frank Camissa, the Chief of the Spinal Surgical Services at HSS.
Then they hit him with the stunning news.
“I’m shocked with what I heard from the doctors this afternoon,” Pierce said in a statement released by the team. “I had no idea that what happened a few weeks ago could keep me off the field. I didn’t think it was that serious. I’m going to do everything the doctors tell me to do so I can get back out on the field as soon as possible.”
Pierce was immediately added to the injury report as “out” for the Giants must-win game against the Atlanta Falcons.
There were no further details available about his condition or how long “indefinitely” might be. Without more information, it’s impossible to tell what his prognosis might be Treatment for a bulging disc in a neck could range anywhere from a week or two of simple exercises and ice and stim treatments, to a cortizone injection, to surgery. The course would depend on the extent of the bulge and the amount of pain or discomfort Pierce is in.
Regardless, even losing their defensive captain for one game is a huge blow to a team that was finally — finally — getting healthy. With the return of cornerback Aaron Ross to practice this week, they had all 53 men on their roster practicing each of the last two days.
Unfortunately now only 52 will be available for the game.
It seems likely that Chase Blackburn, Pierce’s backup, would take over as the starting middle linebacker on Sunday. Promising second-year player Jonathan Goff is a possible option, too.
