I tend to browse through a few different websites sports sections, and have decided that you must need a degree in loser-assholeness to be a sportswriter...
If I see one more story about T.O. doing some tiny little thing I'm gonna snap...
Jesus, no wonder there is so much controversy around the guy, if he says he has to take a piss 30 different sprtswriters have to say he's more interested in pissing than playing football and is destroying the team because of it.

I can definitely say you aren't alone in that.
Most of them are so fucking pious and constantly try to push their own agenda. Ironically enough the guys on ESPN through the Sports Reporters and Around the Horn are the worst of the bunch. Guys like Lupica, Plaschke, Marrioti etc are all fucking assholes. As bad as Lupica is I think I hate Shaughnessy even more.
I also have major issues with those sportswriters who use the annual Baseball Hall of Fame voting to make names for themselves.

Add sports talk radio to this as well. Most of the guys on air these days are horrible and I don't understand how they have jobs. Fox sports being the worst.
And yes, Lupica is hack and Plaschke is a douche.
And I'm tired of some of these black "journalists" who push their racist agenda.

.
Dude I live in Michigan and used to listen to Parker and the Man back when 97.1 was good. Rob Parker has an awful radio voice and has annoyed me for years with his reverse racism. He had a rant back a few years ago when Bobby Knight had a meltdown about how a black coach would of been blacklisted from the NCAA. It was the last time I listened to Parker and the Man.

I can't stomach sports radio. Every once in a while if I'm carpooling for work the guy driving will have WEEI on and its nauseating how fucking awful those guys are. I do love how they bash Bill Simmons though since they are obviously jealous of his connection with fans.
Between sports radio and hack newspaper writers its why blogs and sites like Deadspin are becoming more and more popular. They cut out a lot of the bs (provided you are reading the correct blogs) and write from the perspective of a fan and not some smarmy know-it-all sports journalist.
I definitely agree with your last point. Once in a while someone like Jason Whitlock will have a very good article but then he'll play the race card dramatically in his next one. I did like his article about Sharpton a year or so ago though.

The only sports talk I have ever found mildly entertaining is Scott Ferrell (I know him and O&A aren't on good terms any more) and Andy Gresh on Mad Dog radio is pretty good.

I hate sportswriters. The ones for the Delco Times are the worst.
I also hate a majority of announcers. They suck worse than writers
I'll miss Harry the K.

See I have to disagree about Jason Whitlock. Whitock, along with Micheal Wilbon, Drew Sharpe, and Terrence Moore are real fair when it comes to racial issues. They will be the first ones to hammer black athletes when its necessary and at the same time honestly tackle racial issues and not play the race card.
But there are some black journalists (Rob Parker and William C. Rhoden from the NYT for example) who only see issuses in the terms of black and white.
Even though I do listen to some sports talk radio, most of it is garbage. Its usually a bunch of guys who are obviously jealous of the athletes and will use the medium to attack guys whenever they get the chance to. Not to mention some of the dumb fans who call up. My favorite ones are the fans who sound like they drop the n-word on the a daily basis.
That being said, I'll still take the journalists over the bloggers. In my opinion, too much credibilty is given to some bloggers. Not only in the sports, but in politics as well.

I'm not saying all bloggers. I'm just saying in general I'd sooner read a great blog over most sports reporters. Most of them are fucking garbage.

Most of these guys are just like movie reviewers. They sucked at it so they bitch about the ones who don't

I started out as a journalist, and the guys who couldn't cut it with news proper moved to sports. I'd like to say that their sensationalism and focus on bullshit is them trying to give the public what it wants, but it's gotten to the point that they're setting the agenda.

Out here in L.A., echoing the Plashke sentiment hear. Tries to be funny and he's not. Miss Jim Murray. :icon_cry:
For Sports radio I can take Jim Rome in small doses.
Used to love to listen to Poppa Joe Chevalier, but he's not syndicated where I live anymore.

The best part of the movie Big Trouble were the Gator Fans calling in the radio show.

I was one for ten years and agree that many columnists are inherently over-opinionated and type-A personalities who affect a holier-than-thou stance to the point where they are not likable. But mere beat reporters are a lot more normal than you'd think, and there are more sports reporters than sports columnists.
However, any discussion of hating sports writers needs to include the following truth: die-hard extreme sports fans are very emotionally flawed people.
Think about it. Yes, I was one of them too.
After 10 years in writing about every level of sports, I developed an understanding as to why so many writers take on the pious persona - when you are around it every day, you realize that even though pro sports are ultimately funded by immature adult sports fans, the only sports audience that really means anything are younger kids. Rightly or wrongly, they really do learn alot about their world from looking up to athletes.
When you see up close the dick-measuring contests/arms races that colleges get into to woo recruits, it brings into question your morals. I had to get away before I would hate sports forever.
Other than scores, the only sports news I consistently check out now is deadspin, and if you like calling out hypocritical people in sports and the sports media, then it is for you. I assure you that every columnist you have a problem with is checking it regularly, even when they are getting trashed.
But to be fair, any one with a strong opinion in our society is inherently a polarizing figure.

It's easy.
Most of them are failed athletes and/or jealous assholes that God/Buddha didn't give them talent.

Online, Yahoo and Fox Sports are the only place I'll go for news. I can't stand MLB and ESPN's websites. I can feel them sucking the life out of my browser with all their advertising and autoloading videos.
I would have loved to have been a sports writer. I was the Features writer for my college paper at UNLV and had a blast. Actually thought about a career in journalism but after doing an internship in advertising decided to drop it after I saw what journalism guys were making.

That's the biggest shame about this industry. I do feel journalism are a vital part of society (it's the unofficial fourth check/balance on our government), but it's an impractical career path. I was making a paltry 22 grand (80+ hours per week) during my run as a beat writer, living in Section 8 housing next door to a crack dealer. Loved every minute of it, though. When the paper folded (common these days), I said fuck it and went into PR just so I could get by. The smartest, coolest people I've ever known were journalists, and they've all had to move on and sell out like I did.
That's why the quality of reporting is dropping, and the news media is losing credibility. It's a fucking shame.

Most of them are failed athletes and/or jealous assholes that God/Buddha didn't give them talent.Sports writers would almost be tolerable if that were the case. But the truth is most of the are failed journalists. Most are nothing more then substandard writers who have never actually played the games themselves on any level.
