I loved the old school uniforms as well.

The fake punt was pretty cool.

Vince Young played like shit. Like I said before, its amazing that three players of one of the greatest college football games ever, are turning out to be busts in the NFL.

Micheals and Collinsworth=gold. Now NBC needs to eliminate some of the guys on the pregame and halftime shows.

Just got back from the Jets preseason opener. Lost to the Rams........

Defense looks..... like it still needs work. True the best two starters (Jenkins and Revis) were out. I believe (as shown last year) that without a healthy Jenkins the Jets flat out cant play defense. I dont care who is coaching. Not getting a capable backup for him this offseason could come back to haunt them. And Revis is one of the best corners in the league.

Oh and Gholston still fucking sucks.

With 3/5 starting o-line men out the running game didnt work that well.

Who cares? Its about the QB competition right?

Clemens was perfect, not one miss read or throw.
Sanchez tossed a perfectly placed bomb to David Clowney. Lead a 90 yard drive.

Andre Smith has bust written all over him. He holds out of training camp and doesn't sign until before the last preseason game. Then he quickly fractures his left foot during non-contact drills. Nice going fat boy.

Yeah he doesn't seem like he's really a dummy or anything. He seems like a nice enough kid with a stuttering problem. It takes balls to go up in front of a press conference knowing you have that stuttering problem. I give him credit for doing it.

Oh Troy Polamalu sprained his MCL...will be out for 3-6 weeks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4463828)

And Richard Seymour still hasn't reported to the Raiders (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4463798). Hey dummy...if you don't play this year you don't qualify for free agency. And you'll be 30.

Four days after his trade from the East Coast to the West, defensive lineman Richard Seymour was still a no-show, and the situation is getting prickly.

The Oakland Raiders have drafted and signed a five-day letter addressed to Seymour, which means the former New England Patriots defensive lineman has five days upon receipt to report to the Raiders or be suspended, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter Thursday night.

There is some question as to whether the letter has been delivered, however. A high-ranking Raiders official said he wasn't sure if the letter was sent "at this time." Various parties with knowledge of the situation have indicated different timetables regarding the letter.

One thing is certain. The five-day letter imposes a deadline on both sides, with plenty to lose for each. Oakland could lose the player it covets, and Seymour could lose a season and a salary of $3.685 million.

"I don't have any knowledge of that right now," Raiders coach Tom Cable told The Associated Press when asked about the letter Thursday. "I've heard something about that, but I have no knowledge of that right now. It has been nothing more than just trying to get some of these details worked out, that's it."

In the meantime, the Raiders re-signed defensive tackle William Joseph on Thursday.

Joseph was cut by the Raiders on Sunday after the team acquired Seymour from New England in exchange for its first-round draft pick in 2011.

Oakland was granted a roster exemption by the NFL while Seymour's situation waits to be resolved.

"I have nothing new to report," Cable said after the Raiders' night practice. "But in the meantime this was granted to us so we could get ready."

Trevor Scott, who tied for the Raiders lead in sacks as a rookie in 2008, likely will start at right defensive end against the Chargers if Seymour does not show up.

"It's out of my control, whatever's going to happen is going to happen," Scott said. "So if he does get here, some things are changed or different. I'm not going to let it affect me."

San Diego coach Norv Turner, whose teams travels to Oakland for Monday's season opener, said Seymour could still have an impact in the game if he reports soon.

"He's an outstanding football player," Turner said in a conference call Thursday. "A guy who's that good a football player, I think you find a spot, whether it be as an end pass rushing on third down, whatever those things might be. But certainly, it's hard to fit a guy in and get him going in a short period of time."

Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, who has rushed for more yards (1,906) and touchdowns (19) against the Raiders than any other team, also expects Seymour to play well if he reports.

"He's a pro for one, he knows how to play football and he knows how to turn it on when it's time to turn it on," Tomlinson said. "I think he can absolutely have an effect on the game."

Joseph, a former first-round pick of the New York Giants who played in eight games for Oakland last season, wasn't surprised the Raiders re-signed him.

"The day they let me go, they released me, Coach Cable said, 'Don't go nowhere,' " Joseph said. "I was just around, sticking around, seeing what was going to happen."

I'd fuck Fergie. But fuck this music, it's shit

The only reason why I even checked out some of the kick off show, was so I could stare at Fergie.

But enough with the pop and country stars performing the kick off show. Metallica is mainstream enough now, let them play one year.

Great start to the NFL season. Oh and Rothlisberger is one of the best QBs in the league.

The Rams game is the worst game of football I've ever watched...

- Win the toss, elect to receive. Avery fumbles the ball on the first play of the season, Sea Ball
- Pick off a Sea pass in the endzone. First play of the drive, False Start.

Insert about 100 yards of penalties.

- Sea kicking a 49 yard FG, Rams block it take it to the house... 7 Points tied game going to the half. BUT WAIT, we have 12 men on the field! So no blocked FG, AND first down on the penalty. Sea goes on to score before half.

So 7-7 goes to 14-0 at half.

102 Yards of Offense.
I'm disgusted. And the Rams have forced 3 Turnovers, with nothing to show for it.

I thought the Rams might win 4, now I'm saying they'll struggle to win 2

Same. I'm just hoping they don't start charging us for it. Was hoping for HD but it is still fucking insanely good. I didn't think any new channel would rival MLB Network this year but this might be close (only because I already have Extra Innings for baseball).

My drawbacks to it:

1) Way too much Brett Favre. Although it did provide me with my first laugh of the season when it was 3rd and Goal for the Vikings and Billick said "This is why they brought in Brett Favre". Favre proceeded to overthrow the endzone. Yep, that's about right. Second laugh of the season? When Mike Cox got drilled in the KC game and the play by play guy said "Mike Cox hit hard!"

2) Tony Siragusa

IS the Red Zone channel the one they give you on DirecTV or is it a whole different channel?

Its unreal that after 3 seasons, the NFL network still isnt on some cable systems. Cablevision is a fucking joke. I understand they want to offer the package but the NFL has an insane exclusive deal with Dtv and its not going to happen. They need to just do the right then and put it on the system.
I moved to an apartment a month ago and can no longer have DirecTV. Had to set it up at my moms and use Slingbox to get it into my Apt. It was ok but at times the quality would go to complete shit and I couldnt even get it to work later in the day. Has anyone had any experience with Slingbox? Im thinking of just returning it.

The first one was bad but no one to blame but Brady for those kinds of calls. The second I thought wasn't so bad. There were several whistles already blown and you aren't allowed to pick a QB up and slam him on the ground. Granted on the slow motion replay it didn't look that bad but in real time even I said that should be called and I HATE roughing the passer calls.

The wife was vacuuming when the play happened, so I didn't hear the whistles. If whistles were blown before the slam, I don't have as much problem with the second call. I can understand why you don't want a 300lb linemen body slamming anybody after the play has been blown dead.

The first one was still complete BS. Even under the new "Brady leg rule" that call was horrible. The lineman hit Edwards in the bellybutton, not the kneecaps.

Not real sure how you can blame Brady for that rule, anyway. Sure, his injury contributed to the rule being changed, but it's not like it was his fault.

If I was a Jets fan, I'd be a happy boy right now. The Jets defense looks worlds better than the Pats against similar offenses (Houston is better) and the Pats offense was not impressive, they took what was given to them by a weak, poorly coached defense. The Jets defense is gonna put Brady on his ass, and everyone knows when you hit him, he's not good.

That's not always been true though. I remember when I lived in Chicago I could walk up on any given day to the box office and buy a ticket to sit in the bleachers in Wrigley. It's really only been recently that it's been tough to get a ticket to a Cubs game and that only started when Prior and Wood took them to the NLCS. Sure there were always a good number of people there just to sit in the bleachers and drink beer when they were losing every year but they never dressed up and acted like jerk offs just to get on TV nor did they walk around with their Cubs hat on and a cup of Old Style beer so people would see them and go "Look it's a bleacher bum".

I'm not sure what you disagree with. I'm just saying there is a group of Cub superfans that will continue to sit in the bleachers and get hammered everyday regardless of how good/bad the team is. Likewise, there is a group of Raider superfans that will continue to get paint their faces and wear leather and spikes regardless of how good/bad the team is. And obviously, the Raider superfan take it to a whole nother level with the costumes.

They have made two absolutely horrible 'roughing the passer' calls against New England tonight. The first, the NE defender dove and hit Edwards in the waist right as he threw the ball. I guess that violated the new 'don't go after the legs' rule. The second penalty came on a sack. They said the defender slammed him too hard when he tackled him.

They need to just go ahead and put QBs in red "don't hit me" jerseys and be done with it.

I understand what you're saying about protecting the QB too much. But I did find it funny that one of those penalities was a result of the "Brady rule" and that the other one, Patriot supporters wanted Albert Haynesworth to get when he did the same thing to Brady in a preseason game.

How funny was it seeing Tom Brady trying to run from Suzy Kolber at the end of the game. It was a perfect example of why I think sideline reporters are one of the dumbest jobs in sports.

Front lawn of Bills CB Leodis McKelvin vandalized following loss to Patriots

HAMBURG, N.Y. — Bills players are concerned with their privacy and safety after the front lawn of a home belonging to cornerback Leodis McKelvin was vandalized following Buffalo's season-opening loss to New England.

Hamburg police on Tuesday confirmed the home of a Bills player was vandalized, but declined to release details of their investigation after an obscenity and the score of Monday night's game - a 25-24 loss to the Patriots - were painted in white on the player's lawn in suburban Buffalo.

Kerry Rhodes be talkin' some shit, yo.

The New York Jets' defenders are talking big for their Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots. Earlier this week, defensive tackle Kris Jenkins called this game the Jets' "Super Bowl" and on Wednesday, free safety Kerry Rhodes said he wanted to "embarrass" the Patriots.

The Patriots (1-0) have owned the Jets (1-0) since Bill Belichick became their coach in 2000, going 13-6, including one playoff game, against New York. Tom Brady and Co. have won the past eight games played against the Jets at the Meadowlands.

Rhodes wants to change that -- and make a statement doing it.

"You go out from the first quarter on, from the first play on, and try to embarrass them," Rhodes said, according to the New York Daily News. "Not just go out there and try to win, try to embarrass them. Try to make them feel bad when they leave here. We don't want to just beat them. We want to send a message to them, 'We're not backing down from you and we expect to win this game, and it's not going to be luck, it's not going to be a mistake.' "

Belichick made the Patriots aware of Rhodes' comments Thursday.

"It's said one time, and that's it," Patriots running back Kevin Faulk said. "Coach brings it up and that's it. He says 'This is what was said, but don't worry about it. We have to go execute on the field.' This is not anything we're concerned about. That's it."

Running back Laurence Maroney had a different reaction.

"It's funny just listening to it," he said.

Jets coach Rex Ryan, the former Baltimore defensive coordinator, brought the attacking Ravens defense and its propensity for trash-talking to New York. The Jets surprised the Houston Texans in Week 1, romping to a 24-7 victory. The Jets' defense didn't allow a point, as Houston's lone score came on a defensive touchdown.

Brady, returning from a knee injury that cost him almost the entire 2008 season, was hit only six times by the Buffalo Bills in Week 1's comeback victory. Rhodes said Brady will be hit far more often by the Jets' defense, which hit Texans quarterback Matt Schaub eight times in Week 1.

"We will hit him more than six times. I promise you that," Rhodes said, according to the Daily News.

Rhodes insisted the Jets "won't play dirty" but that Brady will be vulnerable.

"I'm sure if somebody is around his leg, or he feels pressure below, he's not going to step into his throw," Rhodes said, according to the Daily News.

"Any quarterback can be rattled," Rhodes said, according to the newspaper. "He's one of the best, don't get me wrong. That's evident. Any quarterback, Peyton Manning, even if you get in his face, if you rattle the quarterback, you get pressure on the quarterback, any quarterback it is, he's not going to be the same. Nobody. That's not to say he's not going to come back and make a play after."

Brady, in remarks to reporters on Wednesday, said he wasn't rattled by the Jets' tough talk and that in the end, "talk is cheap."

"I think we follow the lead of our head coach," Brady said. "I think because we feel a certain way, we don't necessarily need to tell everybody about it. I mean, we're confident. We have as much confidence as most teams in the league.

"No matter what you say on a Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday, it doesn't matter much. I think our execution is what's most important and that's what we choose to focus on."

49ers apparently file tampering charges against the Jets (http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/09/mt-preview-fe8ec8beee6ad7f63179df7cb8480cf4eea5d9eb.html)

The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly filed tampering charges against the Jets regarding holdout rookie wide receiver Michael Crabtree, according to a report in Monday's Daily News.

The Jets have denied the charges through a team spokesman, and coach Rex Ryan called the allegations "ridiculous" Monday morning on the "Mike and Mike" radio show.

"We'll let the NFL figure that one out," he said. "I think it's ridiculous, personally. ... I wish we were playing them."

The NFL does not comment while investigating tampering charges.

Crabtree is embroiled in a bitter holdout with the 49ers, and has threatened to sit out the entire season and re-enter the NFL Draft in 2010.

The 49ers have until Oct. 20, the NFL trading deadline, to trade Crabtree's rights to another team, who would then have a chance to negotiate a contract with the 2009 10th overall pick. If the 49ers do not trade Crabtree, they have until Nov. 19 to sign him or forfeit his rights.

He has turned down a five-year, $20 million contract that includes $16 million guaranteed. It is believed that Crabtree feels he's better than several players taken ahead of him and wants to get paid as such.

Raiders wide receiver Darris Heyward-Bey, selected seventh overall, signed a five-year deal that reportedly guarantees him $23.5 million, and Crabtree wants at least that much money.

Earlier this season, the Broncos accused the Jets of tampering with disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who was reportedly on the trading block, though the Broncos did not file charges with the league.

In 2006, however, the Patriots filed charges against the Jets accusing them of tampering with wide receiver Deion Branch, another player believed to be on the trading block. The NFL exonerated the Jets on those charges.

Every single person in the US, including the whole Bills team knew exactly what Tom Brady was going to do in the closing minutes of the game. They let him do it anyway. Their loss is their own fault. They played soft zone coverage and let them march down the field at 15-20 yards at a clip.

Yeah, the number one offense in the league is a joke. The defense has improved 100% over last year. Bush is the most overrated player about 98% of the time. The other 2%, he's amazing. Bell is injured, so Reggie better step it up today.

Every single person in the US, including the whole Bills team knew exactly what Tom Brady was going to do in the closing minutes of the game. They let him do it anyway. Their loss is their own fault. They played soft zone coverage and let them march down the field at 15-20 yards at a clip.

i think that's what i said

i didn't know tom brady was wearing a mckelvin jersey and kick returning for buffalo.

Yeah, the number one offense in the league is a joke. The defense has improved 100% over last year. Bush is the most overrated player about 98% of the time. The other 2%, he's amazing. Bell is injured, so Reggie better step it up today.

when was the last time the #1 offense won the super bowl? 1999?

see you in week 6

IF The Redskins lose to the Lions, I want Jim Zorn fired TODAY. As soon as we walks off the field, give Zorn his walking papers. Don't even allow him in the fucking locker room.

What bugs me the most is how pathetic they have looked against the two non division opponents. I can handle losing to the Giants on the road. But they should have dominated the Rams and the Lions. Just like the other teams in the NFC east did against their non division opponents.

The Saints are averaging 40 points per game while allowing the opponent's offenses an average of 16.3 points. Sounds more than acceptable to me.

390 yards was pretty good...good enough for less than half the points they allowed their opponent to score. It doesn't matter if you have a 1,000 yard game if you can't score half the points that you allow.

The Jets this week will be a test. Their defense hasn't allowed many points. Though, those 3 teams they Jets beat have averaged less than 20 points per game so far this season. The Jets also average 21.3 points per game. "IF" the averages of both offenses and both defenses hold true, New Orleans still comes out on top.

Hahaha the Giants stick it to the Cowboys

http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/deadspin/2009/10/manning_signature.jpg

That's Eli Manning's signature on a column in the Cowboys Stadium's visitors locker room according to an NBCDFW user.

"See the picture of a concrete column in the visitor locker room in the new Cowboys stadium," the NBCDFW.com user wrote. "I heard the locker room was spat on and had many used jock straps hanging from the mirrors and other places too. What class."

If the story is true don't judge Eli too harshly, he was probably just trying to fit in with the older boys. He's so impressionable.

I'm kind of sick of all the talk about the Broncos. All the Broncos have proven is that they are not as bad as the bottom tier teams in this league that we thought they were.

If they started the season with the 4 game stretch that they have coming up. Then they would be at best 1-3 right now and nobody would be saying anything about the Broncos.

I wouldnt blame Shanahan, it's not like the offense is lighting the world on fire. But the defense looks really solid. They were flying around the field yesterday against the Cowboys. They have a nice mix of young speedy players, and experienced veterans. I was scoffing at them being 3-0, but they impressed yesterday. I hate when people say a team's not good because they haven't beaten anyone. You can only beat who's on your schedule.

They shutdown the NFL's most explosive offense this season for 3 quarters. Holding them to only one TD on Sunday.

Had it not been for some rookie mistakes the Jets won that game. Much like they have won all 4 games. Defense baby. Calvin Pace is back.

-- Jets Won’t Restrict Calvin Pace --
Tue Oct 6, 2009 --from FFMastermind.com
#
The Star Ledger reports New York Jets HC Rex Ryan left little doubt he was thrilled to welcome back OLB Calvin Pace this week. “I wasn't going to kiss him on the lips,” Ryan said. “But I thought about it.”
Pace returned to the team Monday after serving a four-week suspension for violating the league's policy on banned performance enhancing substances.

“I've never been so happy to see 58 guys in my life,” Pace said. Pace, the team's best pass rusher last season, joins a unit that has created havoc through the first four games. The seventh-year pro gives Ryan another weapon for a group that held the Saints' high-powered offense to just 10 points. The Jets defense has given up just 36 points (three touchdowns and five field goals) this season. Ryan said that he won't restrict Pace in any way. “Monday can't come quick enough,” Pace said. “I take pride in not taking plays off and not coming off the field. But they're going to have to drag me off now.”

No more Vernon Gholston!

The NFL is becoming a league of pussies with all this QB protection. Sure protect the QB from the overly aggressive stuff but its fucking football!!! They have to be able to hit the QB in the NFL. Why are they so damn concerned with old retired players being punch drunk? Thats the profession they chose! There is no such thing as player safety in the NFL. Its a dangerous sport! (Or it used to be)
Sure it's sad to see Mohammad Ali today, but are they going to change boxing so that you cant hit the head anymore? Its the profession he chose. Same for the QB's. On top of that, the refs are totally inconsistant in calling these fouls. This year is the worst Ive seen in game changing ticky tack fouls. Lets just put a skirt on Tom Brady.
Back in the old days, the QB's like YA Tittle were tough as linebackers and they would have to play through the pain. Not so much anymore. Theres a bunch of big tough QB's who could take a hit. (Big Ben, Manning, Cutler etc...) and they have to be protected from being driven into the ground, late hits, maybe even helmet to helmet, but this other shit has gotta go. A sack should not be a penalty. I blame the owners because they signed off on these rules. The owners just care about their financial investments and not the integrity of the game anymore. Fuck the owners and their lawyers, just like radio.

Im liking rugby more & more as the NFL gets more & more pussified. I cant even argue with the Aussies and the Brits anymore when they talk shit about the NFL. Rugby players are tougher nowadays and it's fucking embarassing and sucky sticking up for the NFL. This is not the same game I grew up on. LT would be the most penalized player had he played today. (Uh thats Lawrence Taylor, not Ladanian)

If Tom Brady is so worried about getting hurt, maybe he should be an umbrella holder at Giselle's photo shoots.

Stop with the rugby horseshit. At least Australian rules football has a certain violence to it but neither sees the kind of routine ultra violent collisions that the NFL does. The NFL isn't softer because the players wear pads....the players hit harder because they have them. I agree that the protection for QBs is a bit over the top but the NFL really would suck if you lost too many starting QBs. And as sports science gets progresses the people hitting the QBs are not only getting bigger and stronger but they're getting faster. And if some limey or kangaroo fucker tries to give you shit about the NFL just remind them what happened to the last Australian rules football player that underestimated the violence of the NFL.

What the fuck was that hit about? That's the case of an Australian rules football player that thinks that hitting in American football is nothing compared to what he's used to. So instead of protecting himself after punting the ball he figured he'd saunter towards the ball carrier and got a hard lesson in just how hard the hits in the NFL really are.

Speaking of WR's, Crabtree stopped being as much of a cunt & signed a contract (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4538482&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines)

After months of holding out, wide receiver Michael Crabtree has agreed to a contract with the San Francisco 49ers, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Crabtree will get a six-year deal that he can void to five years if he meets undefined performance clauses, a league source told ESPN's Michael Smith.

The 22-year-old Crabtree is expected to report to the team's training facility Wednesday.

Crabtree and agent Eugene Parker met into the early-morning hours Wednesday with 49ers owner Jed York, general manager Scot McCloughan and Paraag Marathe, vice president of football operations. The two sides had gone almost three weeks without talking.

San Francisco selected Crabtree with the 10th pick in this year's draft and could use the wideout's game-breaking ability in the passing game. That said, he has a lot of catching up to do to learn the offense after missing all of training camp.

He also sat out the 49ers' offseason minicamps and organized team activities while recovering from a foot injury, but was a regular presence for rehabilitation and strengthening workouts at the team's training facility.

Coach Mike Singletary, whose 49ers lead the NFC West and at 3-1 are off to their best start since 2002, said Monday he would welcome Crabtree whenever he joins the team.

Crabtree caught 97 passes for 1,165 yards and 19 touchdowns last year during his sophomore season at Texas Tech. He finished his college career with 231 receptions for 3,127 yards and 41 TDs.

Well, it's not like New York has a crazy nightlife he can indulge in. Like say, Cleveland....

It'll be good for Sanchez to have the security blanket like Plax was for Eli, except that Edwards isn't nearly as consistent (or good) as Burress and is more likely to get in trouble. But still, he's a big guy who can save some bad throws and can break one with YAC yards. If he keeps himself straight, he could be a huge player for them. Cotchery is currently 5th in Reception Yards in the NFL. When you need to make a play you go to Cotchery. And he is fantastic after the catch (YAC).

Edwards if anything opens up the field for the Jets. Allowing the running game to work better, throws to Cotchery, Keller, and Leon Washington.
