From ESPN.com:
Quarterback Michael Vick has signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, his agent, Joel Segal, confirmed to ESPN.com.
Vick arrived in Philadelphia Tuesday morning and remained there Wednesday evening. The Eagles will hold a news conference on Friday morning to announce his signing.
Vick was the No. 1 draft pick in 2001, and once the highest-paid player in football. But he has not played since 2006 when his career came tumbling down. He was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting operation, sentenced to 23 months in federal prison and suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
But after serving his time and being released from home confinement July 20, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally lifted Vick's suspension, allowing him to sign with a team.
Vick can immediately take part in preseason practices, workouts and meetings and can play in the final two preseason games.
Once the season begins, Vick may participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19) at the latest.
Vick filed for bankruptcy protection last July, listing assets of about $16 million and debts of more than $20 million.
The Eagles travel to meet Vick's former team, the Atlanta Falcons, in Week 13 on Dec. 6.

I think that this was done partly b/c of Kolb's injury and his apparent sucking to date. He gives them a backup, plus a weapon they can occasioanally utilize in special play kind of stuff.
He's not being signed b/c they want him to be the QB. If it gets to that point, we were done anyway.

I like the Vick signing. The guy is going to be a weapon on the offensive side of the football. He can be utilized as a receiver or a be a major player in the Wildcat formation. In additioin, he gives us the best backup QB in the league and that is huge when you have an injury prone QB like McNabb. For once, I actually appreciate the balls Andy showed in signing Vick.

As for the people who don't want him in the leage because he killed some dogs. The NFL let people who have murdered other human beings (Ray Lewis and Leonard Little) into the league. However, you can't let a guy who killed Dogs back in. Wow, I'm really feeling the love for my fellow human beings.

Most people hate the move, because they want to feel self righteous. I say they can take their shitty morality and values and shove them up their collective asses. The Eagles knew the shitstorm they were in for when they signed Vick. Obviously, they felt he was worth it on the football field. The Philadelphia Eagles job is to win a Super Bowl not please some fans who think that anyone gives a shit on their opinion about social justice.

McNabb actually lobbied for Vick to come to Philly. Supposedly, the two of them are friends, but if I was in his shoes, I certainly wouldn't have. If Vick is halfway decent, and McNabb struggles in a game at the Linc, I guarantee they will be calling for Vick.

True, but the Phillies and eagles management could not me more different.
The Phillies come off as very fan friendly.
The Eagles just come off as pompous, arrogant and not caring about their fan base.
There have been numerous examples, here are two.
They just fired the disabled part time employee, who was a super fan, for making a negative comment on Facebook about getting rid of Dawkins.
Where is his 2nd chance?
Hoagie-gate not allowing people to bring in food to the new stadium after it had been a tradition for decades. etc.
Treat your fan base shitty enough and they will stop caring.
They act like the Patriots, but hey have yet to win a super bowl
I am glad that the Phillies popularity is rivaling the Eagles.
I know that is killing Jeff Laurie.

Criticize them for some of the shit listed above. Don't criticize them for trying their best to win football games by hiring a potentially impact player.

Absolutely! I think part of the signing has to do with the fact that the Eagles wanted some headlines for themselves. Lately, the Philies have been getting a lot more coverage. That has to piss off Lurie and Banner so they decided to make a controversial decision (Don't get me wrong, it helps the team too) which was guaranteed to make headlines and sell some merchandise. The Vick jerseys are going to sell very well.

PETA.com
PETA and millions of decent football fans around the world are disappointed that the Philadelphia Eagles have chosen to sign a man who hanged dogs from trees, electrocuted them with jumper cables, held them underwater until they drowned in his swimming pool, and even threw his own family dogs into the fighting pit to be torn to shreds while he laughed. What sort of message does this send to young fans who care about animals and don't want to see them be harmed?
PETA certainly hopes that Vick has learned his lesson and feels truly remorseful for his crimes—but since he's given no public indication that that's the case, only time will tell. At this point, all Eagles fans can do is cross their fingers and hope that they won't ever have to explain to their sons and daughters what a "**** rack" is and why their favorite player was using one, as Falcons fans once had to.

No, he's like 6'0''-6'1''. And they have Jackson and Maclin to be speed WRs already. He's gonna be a QB, and a lousy one at that, like he always has. Anyone who thinks he's gonna take 2 years off, step into a whole new team, and learn the playbook as both a WR and QB is out of their fucking mind. He'll get some snaps in the stupid ass Wildcat formation (which will fail througout the league this year) and he'll breath down McNabb's neck. I love the signing, because I was gonna be rooting against whoever signed him anyway, so it might as well be someone I already hate.

The most amusing take I have seen on the Vick signing belongs to AJ Daulerio of Deadspin.
This makes this season interesting no matter what.If McNabb goes down with a knee injury in week 2, well, do you not think people will write-off the Eagles immediately? Of course they will BUT — Mike Vick's redemption song is on the horizon. Maybe he can lead us to victory! And if Michael Vick brings Philadelphia to the playoffs or, gasp, WINS a Super Bowl, well he could set a dozen baby poodles on fire in the middle of Broad Street and he'll still be a hero for life. Just how it is. But, either way, who's not watching this guy trot onto the field each week and the subsequent reaction he receives in each new city?

how many other felons "get a second chance" making millions of dollars it makes me sick, that fucking ****** should be selling beer in the stands, or emptying trashcans just like any other x con.
ive never been a big sports fan, but this just pisses me off to no end.

I don't know why any team would be clammoring to sign Vick. He was average at best in Atlanta. Would he make a good RB? Maybe. But as a QB, he simply wasn't very good.
Average would be generous. The falcons had one of the shittiest passing games in the league. People didn't even know Roddy White was any good until they got rid of Vick. He just can't fucking throw.
Go Matt Ryan!

I hear ya there.
The NFL should really be punishing him a lot more than they are - at least in my opinion.
He is bad PR for the league.

I heard Vick has to sit half the season out - he can practice and everything but that's it. By then McNabb will be hurt anyway.
He can practice and play in the last two preseason games. He's suspended for up the first six weeks but the eagles have a bye in week 4 and that might be when he's reinstated.

He should be cleaning up the dog crap at every animal shelter in the Philly/South Jersey region with his bare hands. Vick is the definition of a ****** piece of trash.
I think Andy Reid will do a great job with helping Vick, since he's done such a fine job of parenting with his sons.
I agree. Hey wait!

Letting him go was the stupidest thing they've done in the recent history.. They shoulda told McNabb to pack his shit instead.
There's a reason even the Cowboys offloaded T.O. No matter how much talent that guy has (and he's got crazy talent), he's too much fucking trouble for teams to be willing to put up with his shit. When the fucking COWBOYS offload you for being too much of a distraction, there's some trouble, there.
I really don't get Eagles fans' hate on McNabb. No, he's not Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, but he's a damned good QB. It's not like he's had all the WR talent in the world to throw to, you know. The only WR talent the Eagles have had was the aforementioned locker room wrecker. Put some decent WR talent around McNabb, and he can produce.
The only real legitimate criticism that can be leveled at McNabb is twofold:
1.) He gets injured.
2.) He's not the most clutch player.
There's not much that can be done about the former, and the latter is at least partially because of the lack of WR talent on the team. I mean, the Eagles lost to the fucking Patriots in the Super Bowl- that's not exactly walk of shame material, there.
As to Vick, I'm biased. I watched him play in college, and I followed him to be a fan of the Falcons. Frankly, I don't really care if he does well in football or not from this point: I hope he gets his act together, does the right things with his life, and makes some kind of amends for his fuck-ups.

not to mention he's a fuckin scumbag. and i'm tired of hearing this "second chance" shit. he had his second chance after he got caught with that weed in the waterbottle. this is his THIRD chance.

I guess I was wrong about a team not signing him. The ball is now in Vicks court to make the best of this second chance that he is getting. Now when I say that, I'm talking about what he does off the field. I'm still not convinced that he is going to be that much of a factor on the field.
It will be interesting to see how many of Vick's jerseys sell. The only place I think there will be a significant amount of them sold is in certain parts of Atlanta.

I don't know what kind of an impact he'll have here. I doubt alot.
This was more of a publicity stunt and a way to deflect the heat off of
Reid for his own shitty scofflaw kids. He'll do his 2 years here and get
a starting job someplace that's desperate for a QB.
They did a news piece here this morning and showed people buying
Vick jerseys at a local Models. Philly peeps will buy them and even
more so if he actually does anything of significance here.
Personally, I'd buy one just to piss people off but that pleasure isn't
worth the $79.95 they want for a jersey.

This. I would buy a Vick just to piss off all the self righteous assholes who are butthurt over the Vick signing. I just can't bring myself to spend $80 to do it.

It's too bad the NFL banned putting Mexico on the back of jerseys. I would have forked over $80 for that.

I wonder why James Brown didn't press on Vick actually gambling on the dogs. I wonder if admitting that would be extra league penalties.

Agreed. Vick was mediocre at best when he was playing for the Falcons and way overpaid, in my opinion.
Actually this is his fourth chance. I'm not sure if it was before or after he was caught with weed, but there was the Ron Mexico incident.
I could be wrong but I don't think Vick will reform. He's been given his fair share of chances and managed to fuck up everytime so far.

If you are going to mention that the Eagles have been in the league 76 years, and they have only been to the Super Bowl two times, you should note that the first Super Bowl was in 1967, and the Eagles won the NFL Championship in 1948, 1949, and 1960.

After watching Megan Kelly's segment on America's Newsroom this morning, I feel like running out and buying a Vick jersey myself.

What the hell was the Ron Mexico incident?
I don't think he was actually caught with weed. He was caught with a water bottle with a secret compartment for weed.
But you're right about Vick's time in Atlanta. I always considered the guy overrated.

What the hell was the Ron Mexico incident?
From Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Vick#Early_incidents):
In March 2005, Sonya Elliott filed a civil lawsuit against Vick alleging she contracted genital herpes from him in the autumn of 2002, and that he failed to inform her that he had the disease. Elliot further alleged that Vick had visited clinics under the alias "Ron Mexico" to get treatments and thus knew of his condition. On April 24, 2006, Vick's attorney, Lawrence Woodward, revealed that the lawsuit had been settled out of court under undisclosed terms. Many fans bought custom jerseys from NFL.com with Vick's number 7 and the name "MEXICO" on the back, as a reference to his lawsuit. The NFL has since banned customizing jerseys with the name Mexico.

Okay thanks for the info. That's pretty fucked up and I hope Vick remembers that shit in trying to make ammends off the field.
I do think the NFL should lift the ban on Mexico being put on the back of jersey. Vick is no longer one of the faces of the NFL, so there is no need to try to cover for him.

Question:
Let's say Vick gets reinstated before Week 6 (I'm guessing he will be able to play around week 3 or 4)
Does the contract with the Eagles prevent him from being traded?
They signed him for a miniscule amount, let's say some other team's QB breaks his leg in the first play of the first game of the season (lol @ Brady) or at some other point in the first few weeks.
Would the Eagles conceivably be able to trade Vick at that point for a pretty big return on their investment?
This seems like a pretty smart scenario for them because the initial negative publicity for him getting a job will already have passed and I'm sure more teams will be willing to have him once they realize that the world isn't going to end because some ***** is playing football again...
I love how people know so much about Michael Vick.
I'm gonna say it: I know Michael Vick better than anyone else on this board. I'm not saying I've ever had a beer with the guy, but I know him better than you do. I knew about him before you did. I knew of him when he was being recruited to play in college, I know of him when he spent all of the '98 season redshirting. I know girls he's fucked, students he's taken classes with, TA's he's taken classes from. I've gone to the same restaurants as him. I've got a good friend who delivered a bunch of pet supplies to Michael for his pit bull, Champagne, that Michael had in college. And no, Champagne was not part of the fighting ring and there were no signs of that shit back then. As strange as it is to say in light of what we know now, Michael doted on Champagne and loved her.
And motherfucker, let me be perfectly clear: I don't know Michael Vick at all. What I do know about him is this: when he's worked hard, he can produce on the football field, and he's a damned good liar.
I don't know if he's full of shit right now or not. What we'd be seeing right now if he were and if he weren't would be exactly what we are seeing right now. If you want to look at a blank slate and see him being the devil or if you want to look at a blank slate and see him being an angel, that's on you. Because none of us knows which way he's going to go with this chance. Any predictions made about Michael at this stage are more about the person making the prediction than Michael himself, because you can't legitimately say you know which way he's going to go.
I'm willing to give him a chance, but I'm biased that way and I admit that I am. If you won't want to, that's your call.

Well apparently Vick's # 7 jersey is the #1 seller on NFL.com.
Also you can get a Micheal Vick jersey for your dog. I shit you not. I think its fucked up that there are jerseys for dogs in the first place. But one for Vick is just in bad taste.
