NEW YORK (WABC) -- Former New York Giant Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty Thursday morning in a deal with prosecutors that will send him to prison for two years.
Burress pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He will also be subject to two years post-prison supervision.
POLL: Do you think Plaxico Burress should go to prison? (http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/feature?section=news&id=6974456)
The deal, hammered out between prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and Burress' lawyer, was the result of negotiations ongoing since his arrest last November.

Bet you that dopey retard would have accepted the original plea deal that said he'd only get 1 year....

That other guy (Pierce?) should have received some time too for trying to help cover it up.

Pierce was exonerated by cooperating with the police in every aspect of the investigation and wasn't indicted by the grand jury. If he were going to have any legal issues, it would have already happened. If anything, he probably would have gotten a year or two of probation

Do you have that right? I though he offered one year and the DA said no. I thought the DA was saying 2 years the whole time.

I think originally, back last year when it happened, they offered him 1 year...to which he said no. Quite the big whoopsies on his part
attempted criminal possession of a weapon
I'm not sure where the "attempted" part comes in. He had a gun in his posession, seems like his attempt was successful.
And yes, two years seems pretty stiff. Of course I thought the Vick/Stallworth sentences were retarded, too.

Good that's what he gets for trying to keep his "Street Cred" with the other savages. Now he can play spades with the spades for the next 2 years.

There is a story floating around that his lawyers worked out a deal that Plaxico would only have to serve 3 months in jail, community service, and pay a fine. But Plaxico didnt' want to do any jailtime. If that is true, he truly is an arrogant dummy and deserves the time he got.

It's the mandatory penalty in NYC. He's actually supposed to get 3, but plead down. You're not allowed to have a hand gun in NYC at all. Unless you're a cop.

Plax gets a two year jail sentence for shooting himself. Stallworth gets 30 days for killing a guy while he was drunk and high. Our justice system definitely needs some work.

And not only did he have one, he discharged it in a place of business in the city. And it was a bar, where it is forbidden almost everywhere to carry even if licensed.
He did ok considering the laws and public paranoia there.

Should've done it Puffy style... have your bodyguard strapped and willing to take the charge for you...
Sentence does seem a bit harsh...

If you think about it though, what Burress did was really more irresponsible and dangerous than Stallworth. We've all driven drunk. And the guy Stallworth hit was crossing a highway (I think it might have been I-95, but I'm not sure). Stupid dummy Burress took an illegal handgun into a public club, tucked securely into the waistband of his baggy sweatpants with the safety off and a bullet chambered. Obviously, what Donte Stallworth did was terrible, but when you compare the two, I think Burress deserved more jail time. Plus, Stallworth paid off that guy's family with more money than they would have seen in generations.

I'll take the city with 5 million people and leave my guns at home, thanks. :action-sm

Well, no shit. Thanks for telling me what I already knew. :action-sm
I was making a joke about the word "attempted" in the charge. "Attempted" makes it sound like he TRIED to unlawfully possess a gun and failed. I was pointing out that he didn't attempt anything. It should have been "successful" unlawful possession of a gun.

QUESTION:
If Plaxico had exercised his right to remain silent, would the police have had any case against him? (provided Pierce did the same, or better yet, said he saw nothing)
I think Plax incriminated himself and the police's case was based on Plax's testimony. Plax said nobody was aware he shot a gun off.
Am I way off base here?
I would have kept quiet regardless because the police arent there to "help" you. They're trying to build a case.
If this is true, Plax is a double dummy.

The only thing retarded about Vick's sentence was that it was too short. That dog killing fucker should have rotted behind bars.

Probably should have explained my position more clearly.... I have no problem with giving Vick more time. What I do have a problem with is the inequality between the Vick and Stallworth sentences. Vick got multiple years for killing dogs and Stallworth gets 24 days for killing a human being. That is why I think their respective sentences were ridiculous.
I am one of the biggest dog lovers on the planet and Vick makes me sick, I just think it's ridiculous that you can kill a person and get off with less time in the joint than you'd get for running a dog fighting operation.

Plax interview with Jeremy Shafp tomorrow on e60.
To me it sounds like he blames security for letting him bring it in. What a tard.
You're not supposed to have a fucking gun tard! Take responsibility you fucking ******.

I'm surprised he's not suing Glock (or whatever gun company it was). After all, if they hadn't manufactured that evil handgun, he would have never carried it into the club.

Stallworth got 24 days for the DUI. He would have hit the guy even if he wasn't drunk/high. Also the guy he hit was doing something illegal and in Florida that changes things.

Stallworth served his 24 days for DUI manslaughter, not just for the DUI. He was also going 10 over the speed limit. As for the guy he hit, yes he was crossing the street not in a crosswalk, which is probably what got him hit. There's probably no way to know if Stallworth could have avoided him had he not been impaired and speeding.
There's a good chance I'm being overly critical of Stallworth because DUI is one of those pet-peeve things with me. I've had several family members/close friends who have had their lives upended by accidents involving a person who was DUI.

That's exactly what he is doing and even though he is to soley blame for his own troubles, I hope the club that this happened in doesn't re-open anytime soon. There is something wrong with a club in NYC that is going to knowingly let a guy into the club with a gun.

I don't think you're being overly critical of Stallworth. The motherfucker had enough money to call a cab, a limo, or get a hotel room for the night. Even though I don't have any personal experiences with DUIs', that is one of my pet-peeves as well.

For the situation, two years is ridiculous. He should have called the team doctor instead of going to the hospital.

Gotta suck to be a doorman at one of these places. Big rich and famous athlete comes to the club and is packing a gun.
If you tell him he can't come in/has to lose the piece, he may get pissed and tell the owner that you're a dick or just never come back costing the owner money. Next thing you know you're looking for a job.
If you let him in with the gun, there's a chance that the moron shoots himself or (God forbid) someone else gets hurt.
No win situation for the doorman.
