Lou Holtz is basically Senile at this point. He shouldn't be allowed on TV anymore, he's terrible. His fake Pep Talks were cringey last year.
I can't believe that Florida was something like a 73 point favorite over Charleston South.
They will KILL C.S, but opening at 73? How can you get beat by 73?
C.S has to be able to kick at least 2 field goals, so that would mean 80 points to cover.
Crazy.

I love how he punches him and then backs away pounding his chest like a bad-ass, as he backs away like a piece of shit...
Yeah, they should have these Meatheads do mandatory handshakes pre/post game.
Who saw that going wrong.
Btw, Blount: 8 Carries -5 Yards -0.6 Avg

Still in the 70s?
That's so many points, and I assume Tebow is done.

Anybody else think the "defenseless receiver" flag in the Georgia game was a bit bogus? I realize the rule is in place to keep safeties from head-hunting on receivers that are vulnerable...I have no problem with guys getting flagged when they lead with their helmet, or go after the receiver's head. But, in this case, the WR had his hand on the ball a split second before the hit and the Georgia player led with his forearm/shoulder and hit him in the chest. Terrible call, IMO.

75? I think if its possible Urban and the Gators will hang 100 points on the Vols to teach Kiffin a lesson.
Although Tennesse did look better on offense last week, so maybe it will be game next week.

First: Could someone please tell me why Notre Dame was throwing the ball on 2nd down late in the game? Just run a safe play for a few yards on 2nd down, run the play clock down and then throw it on 3rd if you need to. By throwing incomplete passes on 2nd and 3rd down back to back, Michigan was able to get the ball back without calling a TO.
Second: I absolutely despise both Notre Dame and Michigan. I wish there was a way for no one to win.

You're right, they are a throw heavy team. But, you'd think with all the success they had running the ball with that little spread draw thing they would have given it a try since they were trying to run out the clock and all. Letting the QB heave it 30 yards downfield made zero sense.
Good. Hopefully that will bring Notre Dame fans back down to earth.

I don't see how they were so out there to begin with. I agreed with what Ron was saying on R&F this week. A win didn't mean Notre Dame was back but a win meant Michigan was back. It amazes me that people thought Notre Dame was going to be some powerhouse and Michigan was going to suck this year. Michigan had a bad year and were going to bounce back well before Notre Dame accomplished anything.
Notre Dame is a mid-major school talent wise. The media and fans have some delusion that it's still the 70s and that they're somehow still relevant in the college football world.

Then Kirk Herbstreit talks about how there's a good shot at a rematch between USC/THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY in the BCS Title game.
Because losing to USC at home as the #8 ranked team is going to get you to the Title game. AND barely beating Navy by 4 points AT HOME is a recipe for national champs as well.
But don't worry I'm sure they'll win out or lose to Penn St., play no conference championship game, and wait for others to lose their 1 game late and sneak in somewhere.

I used to work at a NAIA school, so allow me to be Mr. Geek for a second.
The NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) is a completely different organization from the NCAA. NAIA schools can give athletic scholarships, NCAA D-3 can't. Recruiting is much easier at NAIA schools because there are no restrictions on "official" visits, phone calls, etc. Generally, NAIA schools are small, private and, most of the time, religiously affiliated. In most sports a good NAIA school will be very competitive with NCAA D-2 teams. I'm not sure if that statement applies to football, I don't know much about NAIA football. But there are a lot of NAIA schools that routinely beat D-2 schools in basketball, baseball, etc.
And yes, I'm not a fan of any of the Clausen brothers. I'd like to slap each of them in the face. I have a hunch they'd just cry.

LSU just got a huge boost to their strength of schedule and anytime USC gets beat it's a win for everyone!

Once again, USC loses an early game to a weaker opponent.

Let me preface this by saying that I am in no way a Tennessee fan, matter of fact I can't stand them or their fans.
That being said, it's a shame their QB is so terrible because they have a decent running game and a very good defense. If they had even a mediocre QB teams couldn't put 9 in the box to stop the run on nearly every play.

Not sure, but completing only 33% of your passes isn't a good thing.
I've seen a few Cocks games in the last couple years, where did Spurrier's Offense go?
Chino Kapone
09-25-2009, 02:15 AM
Spurrier is so up and down in the SEC at SC. He can't recruit that well to South Carolina because most kids in his area who want to play in the SEC go to Florida. A lot of people say the whole reason he took the job was to get a membership at Augusta National.
Anyway, Houston Nutt is a pretty good coach, Snead just had an awful game. Nutt's bread and butter has always been the run game. Helps when you have McFadden.
IMO the SEC is overrated this year. If you want a good QB to watch, check out the Michigan tranfer Ryan Mallett at Arkansas. He's 6'7" and has a fucking cannon for an arm. It should be a great game against Bama this weekend.

He's not the Heisman-quality QB everyone was making him out to be, but he's real good. Just had a terrible night.

X2.
On a related note....how stupid does Mitch Mustain feel right now? He and a handful of his Springdale HS teammates sign with Arkansas after Nutt hires the SPringdale coach to be offensive coordinator. Mustain starts about 1/2 the games his freshman year but gets pissed because they aren't throwing the ball enough and didn't install the spread offense. Keep in mind, his freshman year was the year Arkansas had McFadden and Felix Jones, the best two RB in the nation that year. So, he transfers to USC.
Fast forward two years.......Bobby Petrino, a very QB friendly coach, has replaced Nutt at Arkansas and Mustain is buried on the USC depth chart. I heard on ESPN that Pete Carroll says he would go to his #4 QB on the depth chart before he puts Mustain in the lineup. Way to destroy your career because you got butthurt, Mitch.

You know he feels stupid... but he had to go. McFadden and Jones were getting all the plays, and Gus Malzon(sp?) was getting pissed because they were not using his offense like he wanted Houston Nutt too. Of course not! You have arguabley the best combination at running backs in College football history at your disposal. At the same time, the Sprindale boys are dealing with tons and tons of pressure from the area. Eveyone in the area knew of these kids as Juniors in High School. They were everywhere. That's all anyone would talk about to the point Mustain was being harrassed. It didn't help that these kids parents went into the coaches office and demanded their kids become a bigger part of the offense. So they bounced. Nobody was happy to have Casey Dick as the QB. NOBODY
Through the freedom of information act, Houston Nutt's phone record was made public. He was having an affair with one of the local reporters. He was exchanging 5,000 texts a month with this chick. He gets fed up with it his final year. You can just see the tension with Houston and the whole state of Arkansas.
The kids were bribed to come to the school by hiring Gus. They could have stayed, and been legeneds in the area. Absolute Gods if they take Arkansas to a BCS bowl. I mean, fuck, Mustain was undefeated as a freshman... but I think McFadden threw just as many passes as him(srcsm). Malzon went off to Tulsa, and is now an offensive coordinator at Auburn. He pretty much brought "the Wild Cat" front and center.
Football is life in Fayetteville. There are only two seasons in Arkansas. Football season, and anticipation for Football season.

Casey Dick's last pass as a College QB against LSU last year solidified that he was not as bad as everyone in Arkansas thought he was. Probably the single best moment of his college career.

Yep, if memory serves, several of the Springdale kids had committed to other schools until Nutt hired Malzan to be the Offensive Coordinator.
I got to watch Springdale absolutely take apart a very very good West Memphis team in the state finals Mustain's senior year (I've got a family connection with the West Memphis coaching staff).
You know a head coach has been doing some serious lying when a whole collection of parents basically storm his office to talk about his promises. Not to mention how strange it looked for the offensive coordinator to leave an SEC job after one year to go be the co-coordinator at a mid-major school.

But then what good would he be? It's not like he's a good passer. He's good at running the ball and occasionally throwing some passes to keep the defense honest. But he's hardly Michael Vick. He's big and strong and breaks tackles. If he went down easy he wouldn't be any good.

You have to know college football. Ok he was a good coach at the college level so he fits this criteria.
You have to be able to read. I'm assuming he can so he fits this criteria as well.
You have to be able to speak well. FAIL
You have to maintain at least some sliver of neutrality and not be completely biased. FAIL
You have to have some kind of charisma or presence that doesn't make people want to throw their TVs through the window. Outside of the Notre Dame crowd this is an EPIC FAIL
That's all you really have to do. If I sucked at most of my job I would have been fired years ago.
Holtz keeps his job for one reason and one reason only. People continue to watch the show. 1/2 of those people are Notre Dame fans that love everything he says, the other 1/2 are guys like us that tune in only to see what ridiculous horsecrap he's going to spew this time. You either love him or hate him....which makes him the Glenn Beck of college football.

Honestly, I'm just sick of the NCAA TV football announcers as well. No matter what game, they ALWAYS bring up fucking Tebow. Motherfucker needs to graduate and fail in the NFL already.

I think Bradford made a mistake trying to come back after the initial shoulder injury. Given what happend today, I think its safe to say you won't see him starting another game this season. He'll probably have surgery and just get ready for the draft.
That being said, I was always thought Bradford would be a risky first round pick and that was the before the shoulder injury. I think most of the Big 12 quarterbacks would be a risky first round pick.

I just caught the last couple minutes. I would love to know what Weis was thinking on the play with 4 seconds left. Even if Clausen throws a decent pass (which he didn't) the receiver catches it at the 2 1/2 yard line and is immediately tackled. Shouldn't you at least throw the ball to someone who has a chance to score??

Because ESPN(CBS does even more, but I hope we can all agree their announcers are complete fail) jerks off to Alabama because they were really good a long time ago. Bear Bryant wouldn't be able to get away today with half the shit he got away with during his "reign". Back then they had unlimited scholarships, so the "Bear" would offer any decent player a scholarship and then not play them, so other schools couldn't pick them up. He'd also play an extra SEC game every season to boost his win pct. It was a loophole that he abused. Also, I believe Alabama has been under some form of probation for the past 15 years. But once again, I'm biased because I'm an Auburn fan. SC did a good job tonight though.
And what Dana said.

I really hope they smoke Florida in the SEC championship and this is coming from a guy that hates Saban. 2005 may have been the only time this decade where we had 2 undisputed teams that deserved to be in the champ game unquestionably...the way the game is now, not sure if we will see that again for a while.
As a Big10 homer, I think Iowa needs to get higher in the rankings as well. Probably Top6 at least...they are very similar to Ohio State in 2002. Wish PSU's line culd have played as well in that game as they have since.

The only way I see him coming back is if the "experts" advising him basically tell him that the NFL won't draft him unless he proves he can stay healthy with another year in college. That won't happen, so I don't expect to see him in an OU uniform again.

SEC suspends UF-Arkansas crew
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- The Southeastern Conference has suspended officials from last weekend's Arkansas-Florida game after the crew was involved in its second controversial call of the year.
Referee Marc Curles' crew called a personal foul on Arkansas defensive lineman Malcolm Sheppard in the fourth quarter as the Gators were rallying for a 23-20 victory. The league said there was no video evidence to support the call.
The same group of officials called the LSU-Georgia game earlier this month, which included a late unsportsmanlike conduct penalty the league said shouldn't have been called.
"A series of calls that have occurred during the last several weeks have not been to the standard that we expect from our officiating crews," SEC commissioner Mike Slive said Wednesday. "I believe our officiating program is the best in the country. However, there are times when these actions must be taken."

My Cincy/Boise St. comment wasn't necessarily directed at their style of play or their entertainment value. I was thinking about the lack of revenue that game would create as opposed to a SEC/Big 12 title game.
At this point, I really think the Florida/BAMA SEC title game will be the best game to watch this year.

First, they would need to win out.
Second, the voter's probably would not pick a undefented Bosie St. or Cincinnati team over a one loss SEC team and why would they?
Do you think they deserve a BCS title game? Maybe a BCS game but not the championship.

I think Mack Brown would drop dead right in front of the podium. But like I said earlier, I haven't seen anything from Texas that tells me they would be able to compete with Florida or Alabama.
For BAMA and Florida to play the title game, I think three things have to happen....
1. Obviously, both teams have to go undefeated in the regular season
2. The SEC title game has to be a great game with a close score, like less-than-a-FG close.
3. Texas would have to get beaten very handily in the Big 12 title game.
Even if those things happen, I don't see them letting Florida and BAMA play in back-to-back games. They would just find a way to move USC up far enough to take over the $2 spot.

UT/Mizzou game was so one-sided they put the USC/OSU game on.
Tennessee needs new linemen on the FG unit that can actually keep someone from coming straight up the middle to block their kicks.

Just got in from Baton Rouge. Ugly game on Auburn's part. I was sitting alone in the LSU fan section(my parents were kind enough to take the suite passes and cast me into the sea of gold and purple), made it almost to the end of the first quarter before I left. Went to the car, gabbed my cooler and went to a friend's RV to watch the rest of the game and get drunk.
Had a good time though, the fans were the most friendly I've seen them in my previous visits.

Another typical performance in a tight, big game by Penn State. Go into a shell and hope you don't get beat up too badly. Which they did. At least I can still have Joe Paterno put this game into perspective for me when it's over. I think part of Boise State's problem is the NCAA rule change that allows Division 1 (screw that Bowl Subdivision crap) to schedule one Division 1-AA team every year and have it count for bowl eligibility. Those 1-AA teams will come into anyone's stadium for relatively dirt cheap and give a D-1 team a free win. It also eats up a free week that teams like Boise State needs if they want to get in against the big programs.

A home game for some of these teams will bring in 5 or 6 million dollars just for that game. These schools are getting paid generally around $400k. That's alot for those 1-AA schools but cheap compared to what a major program would command.

You are delusional. The only conference win they've had this year is against Indiana. Ohio State more than doubled the amount of passing yards and the amount of rushing yards that M*ch*g*n had last year, in the 42-7 beating. I am sure they will play really, really well...

You call it delusion, I call it faith.
(Yes I know it's highly improbable, but I don't lose faith until it's impossible to win)
We'll see.

good call.
Absolutely

good call.
Any prediction of ND losing this season could be a good call.
They're shit, and should probably be 2-9/3-8
I love watching Charlie Weiss though, so fat and such a loser.

LSU blew it.
Spike the ball with one second left? What were they thinking?
Awful Me
11-21-2009, 08:23 PM
Les Miles should be fired for that.
I don't care that he won us a National Championship. He should be fired.
There is no excuse for that incompetence.
The screen pass was a terrible call on 3rd and 29.
You let 20 seconds run off before you call a time out
You spike the ball with 1 second.
You could have at least called a pass play.
Spike guarantees the loss.
FIRE HIM.

Same thing I told my dad.
Pathetic. Why the fuck didn't Jefferson just go with a play anyway?

Because Jefferson is just kid who did what his Coach, who gets paid millions of dollars told him to do....

Yep, brainwashed. In situations like that, you have to think on your own and go against what the coach calls.
Wait he didn't call an audible? What a dumbass.
Nope, he didn't. That's what blew my mind.

Charlie Weis vs. Mark Mangino
Who wins?
You might think that Weis has more mobility, but he's had 1 knee replacement and probably need another. Mangino appears to have raptor-like tiny arms, so that's not a plus.
Mangino just looks like a mean person, he'd overpower Weis.

Don't forget Weis had a gastro bypass. Plus Weis has got a temper on him so if it came down to it, the Weis vs Mangino fight would look like this :fight6:.
So my vote is Weis no questions asked

http://a.espncdn.com/media/apphoto/3f2f402a-94a4-49f8-b459-5be63776a68f.jpgI remember a couple of seasons we couldn't get the Notre Dame fans to shut up. Now I don't think there are any left around.
My favorite part of what Wiess has done to the Notre Dame program is that it is no longer one of the prestigious coaching jobs anymore. It'll still be high paying but the recruiting grounds have eroded somewhat, the fan base has no patience left, and you're no longer stepping into a program with the aura of success. Who ever comes in now will have to rebuild the program with people calling for his firing right from the start. It's going to be interesting to see who they can get to deal with that.
