And from your description, I can't really think of anyone I'd be less likely to hire... you gotta put a better face on yourself if you're trying to find a job.

I'm seriously contemplating a change in employment. Currently I make $15/hr at a printing company, but the management keeps making boneheaded decisions, the city I work in has no bus service and the majority of voters there always prefer to keep it that way, the health care keeps jacking up the costs on me (AND they refused coverage to my wife), and to top it all off, the company itself has been the target of many "investigations" by media outlets due to complaints by various businesses.

I've been in the graphic arts business since 1991, but for almost four years I've been out of the loop, so to speak. It seems to me times have gotten tougher for people in my field of work... I hardly ever see any graphic design positions up for hire in my paper anymore, when I used to see an average of 4 or 5 of them every week.

There seems to be two "classes" of graphic-arts people: the designers in the studios and the production artists in the print shops. I've spent almost all my career in the latter, and when I try to get a design job I never have enough "studio experience" for any of them. I could go freelance... yeah, right, and then pay out the ass in health care expenses.

So all you unemployed and underemployed folks out there, I've been there and definitely understand what you're going through. I'm gonna start my own job search soon, and hopefully I won't lose the job I have now while I'm looking.

Go for it Py...best of luck to you!!

Health insurance sucks ass man! I make $16 an hour as a warehouse superviser and I pay out 83.00 a WEEK for health insurance for my family!

Hell, I am a big time ameture (sp), but was just trying to sell myself. I figured that was a better plug then "I can flip bugers real good, and i can read"

One needs to know how to "tweak" a resume to sound better then what it really is. :bigok

Come on. Like I would tell a potential employer (sp) "simple html, some other web stuff, and i can dunk fries."

Embelish. Everyone dose it. The key is to Do it without seeming like your doing it.

But i am a government trained killer. No embelishing on that. I have records and files to prove my training, and a skull to prove my skill. :wings3: (so if you don't need a web page, maybe you want someone........to be not here anymore? dirty deeds done dirt cheap)

So student of P.U., where is your website? where is your work? show us what a real webmaster can do. Give us the O&A that he dose. If you can not provide a website of your own then you should not even say anything.

Now excuse me, i have a hole to crawl back into.

hey i said i apologized for being a prick but when i get something stuck in my head i cant help but say it...but hey its done and over with....cant take it back.....

.....and i cant post any website because all my best ones were written in .asp which is all database driven stuff and i dont happen to have a server that will run it...but i do have some flash stuff i been working on this quarter that i think is pretty neat because almost everything in them is preformed by hand coded actionscripting. mind you these are simple lesson projects nothing final
http://home.comcast.net/~tattered666b/Flash3/index.html
the last one called Slider is my best one so far

and btw i never knocked what ed has done for O&A or SU....i frankly...never EVER said that.....

hay tattered....

i use html and notepad to edit it. i have no formal training, all has been selftaught. i use a format that is universal. it is hosted on what has proven to be a stable server. i can show you stats for the past few months, and you being a web studant can probably be able to read it better then me. for such an "...atrocious..." site it is doing very well. i have gotten complaints about speeling, dead links, even the cross hairs, no one has ever called it "atrocious" before. could have chosen a better word.

a site needs to be designed to offer a product, and concentrate on that. the purpose there is to keep the flow of audio going. the product are the mp3 files. bad enough i flood the site with the splash page (keeping that) it provides its product well. from a man who works 8am to 9pm, has a wife and kids (oh and a cat) and using the simplest of tools to update and maintain the site i think it's anything but "atrocious".

and stay in school. i got to go back myself. think how much worse i can be with formal training.

First off, Tattered is still learning so his assignments won't be of proffessional quality. So stop please complaining about him not being a proffessional yet.

Second, I can't stand reading straight html for long without some kind of colorized formatting scheme which many html programs/text editors provide or a WYSIWYG which Frontpage and some other freeware programs do.

Using Notepad when there are other freeware and shareware text editors that can significantly help out in coding does not make sense.

I would suggest FedExEd and other people try Crimson Editor (http://www.crimsoneditor.com/) . It is a freeware text editor with lots of neat features and I use it from time to time.

see, i'm the oppisite. i cant stand reading codes generated by programs like dreamweaver and front page. i find it easier to read. i am sure the programs are better but until i get better hours or a better paying job don't have time to learn the stuff.

and not knocking tattered. my point is he is still learning, so am i. i did, however, found his choice of words insulting. i am sure there could have been a better way to call it an amatuer site that could use improving.

and niky, if you go military let me know. i'll give you some heads up on stuff the recruiter won't tell you.

SoS, i'll check those out.

thats because I CANT DRAW! most lay out designs dont require drawing droplets, buckets, and clouds....
