Pundit O'Reilly Now Skeptical About Bush
Tue Feb 10, 9:25 AM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Conservative television news anchor Bill O'Reilly said on Tuesday he was now skeptical about the Bush administration and apologized to viewers for supporting prewar claims that Iraq (news - web sites) had weapons of mass destruction.
The anchor of his own show on Fox News said he was sorry he gave the U.S. government the benefit of the doubt that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s weapons program poised an imminent threat, the main reason cited for going to war.
"I was wrong. I am not pleased about it at all and I think all Americans should be concerned about this," O'Reilly said in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America."
"What do you want me to do, go over and kiss the camera?" asked O'Reilly, who had promised rival ABC last year he would publicly apologize if weapons were not found.
O'Reilly said he was "much more skeptical about the Bush administration now" since former weapons inspector David Kay said he did not think Saddam had any weapons of mass destruction.
While critical of President Bush (news - web sites), O'Reilly said he did not think the president intentionally lied. Rather, O'Reilly blamed CIA (news - web sites) Director George Tenet, who was appointed by former President Bill Clinton (news - web sites).
"I don't know why Tenet still has his job."
He added: "I think every American should be very concerned for themselves that our intelligence is not as good as it should be."
O'Reilly anticipated the presidential election would be a close race, adding he thought Democratic front-runner Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) of Massachusetts would be a formidable opponent against Bush.
"It will be a very close race. The nation is divided," he said.

Yeah. Bush. I don't get why people haven't called for an inquiry into impeachment proceedings... I mean, if they do it over Clinton getting his nob hobbed by an intern, why not about Bush bringing us into a war we had no right to start by blatantly lying about his reasons and getting hundreds of our young soldiers killed for no good reason?
I'm really don't like John Kerry much at all, but I'm gonna throw every ounce of effort I possibly can into his campaign, because I'd much rather see Corky from Life Goes On in the White House than Bush...

Sometimes the end result is more important than the method used to get to it. Saddam is a scum bag. Die fuck die.
It's messed up but true. If you only knew what goes on in Government/military.

FUCK not another liberal on the board! WE have too many already! Anyways, there is still validity to WMD statement, as I have been saying, they are most likley burried in the Bacca Valley in Syria. During Desert Storm, Iraq burried their planes in Iran, so hey, ya never know. I mean when an Iraqi diplomat says that Mr. Ks report is total crap, well, then, I still believe there were WMDs, say Im driking the koolaide, but I guess time will tell

Random, you just outlined the reasons why I'm not a liberal. Kerry and Edwards both supported war and now they want to act like this is Vietnam all over again. It's absolute bullshit.
This war was NECESSARY regardless of if WMD's are found or not. And I'm still sure that when all is said and done, something will turn up (maybe in Syria). But honestly, Iraq was a threat to the US and their interests, and we would have had to keep a close eye on them for years to come. After Saddam, you had his sons, who were just as ruthless as him. They are anti-American and therefore they pose a threat to our way of life after Saddam dies. If we want to win the war on terror, we HAD to take out Iraq. And I'm sure once everything is settled over there, we'll find another country that poses a threat to us and our allies (ex. N. Korea).
After Clinton, I don't want to see another democrat in there, especially during these times. Our military and intelligence was scaled back in order to pay for welfare and such. Hell, if Gore had won the presidency, I wouldn't be shocked if there had been more attacks on our soil. Maybe Kerry and Edwards could do a better job then Gore or Clinton, but I see it as Bush is getting the job done and we are winning the war on terror. Al Qaida is now only about 1/3 of what they used to be. Now that is damn progress in my book!

Well that's good to hear. What other leaders don't we like? Let's invade North Korea and oust their government. We can say we're doing it because they've got nukes aimed at Los Angeles. Nobody will find out that the nukes they have can't reach half that far until after the war's over, so we'll be fine.
Then we can invade Cuba, cause, hey, we heard that that guy was illegaly sending spies to infiltrate Miami on tiny rubber and wood rafts made from old tires and doors to gather information for a coming invation. When we finally say that it's refuges instead of spies, Castro will already have been executed.
Then, you know, I think those Mexicans looked at us sideways. And the French, they never get our backs like they should. We might as well just take over their governments too, just to make it easier.
Sorry, but MAKING UP reasons to invade countries and overthrow their governments SOLELY BECAUSE we didn't like the way they ran things is not a legitimate way to run a government. It makes Bush an initial aggressor, and it makes our country look beyond foolish in the international political world. You just can't go around taking over countries governments if you don't like them; how do you think we'd feel if China did to America what America did to Iraq on some trumped up weapons charge that proved to be a lie? I'm not gonna say I'm sad to see Saadam Hussein out of power, but I'd rather see him in power and see the US NOT starting arbitrary wars with arbitrary foes.
North Korea is protected by China and its huge military. And the North Koreans would attack South Korea.
Cuba's Castro allowed USSR to start the construction of nuclear missile silos on Cuban soil. That sort of thing is hard to forget. And there are lots of ex-Cubans in Florida that do not like Castro.
The Mexicans do not like our prosperity. They do not like the fact that their government is corrupt and pretty worthless.
The French are knuckleheads and socialists. Who are hypocrites as well.
Iran is showing signs of becoming more democratic and less theocratic.
They guessed and they goofed since they found no NBC weapons there. Surprisingly though, they had some banned weapons that were not WMD but the patriot missiles were able to knock most of them down before they hit Kuwait.
The world is a better place without the Bath party in Iraq. No, I might be wrong...?? Wasn't the Bath party the government that didn't ---- young women? Didn't interrogate innocent or nonconformists that didn't submit to the will of Sadam? That didn't withhold UN supplies? That didn't repress its people? No. The former Iraqi regime did no such things. They were peaceful, caring, and totally committed to it peoples.
Bush & Tenet goofed but the world is a better place now. I know that US & Allied soldiers are dying everyday there, but is better there than here. And if we do not solve the world's problems, they will come here instead.

Like I said, I'm as happy as anybody that Saadam is no longer in power. But instigating wars of aggression against arbitrary foes that were approved by the public under false pretenses is not a good precedent to have, and could lead to VERY BAD THINGS in the future.

Yeah, and so could doing absolutely nothing. I mean, sure we could've reasoned and negotiated with Iraq and saved the trouble of war. But from here on in, we'd always have to watch our back. Taking the Baath party out is one less worry of ours, they were very anti-American. And since we didn't want to babysit that Government for years ahead, we put an end to it right now. Just think how bad we'd feel if Iraq eventually got their WMD's and used them? Or maybe they secretly fund a terrorist group that drops more planes on our buildings? How are we gonna feel then? We'll probably say, "damn, we should've taken them out years ago."
The US is the most powerful country right now, and we have the unforunate task of policing certain countries. We have to get on some countries' asses to ensure our freedom. It's not a good job to have, but in order to prevent say, France, Mexico, Germany, etc from allowing terrorists to board flights and crash them into our landmarks. Because once we are attacked again, every single country suffers.

The trouble with that is, it just makes more people pissed off at us. Do you think those Mexicans would have been shouting "Osama" at that soccer match before we went into Iraq?
I think it's great that we forced out Saddam and his Baathist government, but I thought it should have been done in 1991, when we had cause to do it. Now we look to the rest of the world like the schoolyard bully.
