Opie brought up that in the coming 2010 season, baseball cards will no longer be made with team logos and paraphernalia.
Just the baseball player's name in a generic uniform will be shown in the picture.

I stopped collecting back in '93. Best card I have is a Rickey Henderson rookie card. Had I not stopped that would make me stop. Who wants generic cards?

Only the few I have that are paired with signed baseballs.

Was really into it when I was growing up and even worked at a card store. Stopped when I went to college although I've recently started buying more and more packs and stuff on ebay to go and get signed.

I love how most of the shit I collected in the '80s and '90s is worth shit. My best card is ARod's best rookie card ('94 SP Holoview Die Cut). I was going to get it graded in '07 and then sell it but I slept on it and then the value took a huge dive. Probably could have gotten $1,500 for it.

I didn't listen today so I have no idea what Opie said but Topps signed an exclusive deal with MLB and they will be the only official baseball cards.

I have a TON of baseball cards in the basement...
I would get 1 set of complete cards, usually Topps, for Christmas for like 8 years.
Then I've probably got at least 6-7 of these type of boxes filled.

http://www.diamondfans.com/graphics/cardbox.jpg

This kind of makes me want to go look through them, but what am I going to do?
It one of those situations where you either just keep everything or throw them all out, because I'm not going to sell anything.

I think about how much money was wasted on them, and can't bring myself to pitch them. 1,000s of dollars I assume

The other week I found a trash bag full of Starting Lineup figurines from like 1987-1991, probably had about 75 of them. I took 2 and put them on my desk, the other back in the trash bag in the basement....

yea i haven't heard the show yet either but my dad owned a baseball card shop for 30 years. I think i remember him saying topps signed an exclusive deal with mlb meaning they will have guys in their actual uniforms and such. However any other company (upper deck) will have generic player cards.

oh and lockjaw im pretty sure all those cards u mentioned aren't worth shit.

70s stuff maybe if u have high numbers but the 80s/early 90s are in the shitter, way over produced.

abs, the figurines are probably worth more than the cards

I collected until the mid 90's...started in like 1980...
2 things killed it for me...The explosion of specialty cards, esp when all those "premium specialty" cards came out...suddenly Beckett went from listing topps/donruss/fleer/score...then upper deck...and bowman...and then the dam burst and the likes of Stadium Club came out at like $1 a pack when the most expensive was score at $0.50 a pack...

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/9871/91stadiumser1.jpg

Those cards were going up and up in price per pack...and OOOOOH i got nolan ryan in a Tux throwing a ball...It must be worth $100!!!

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/20/tuxryan.jpg

Guess what...should have sold sold sold...I know I have a stack of Greg Jeffries and Gary Sheffield Rookie cards somewhere...Oh and how about Ricky Jordan for the Phills...ha garbage now...

There was a card show the next town over called Hudmar Limited that i think does comic books now...the owner got busted opening packs, taking out the good cards and putting crappy ones in...they were also forging signatures...that really pissed me off. I remember we never got good cards from his packs unless we bought a factory sealed box.

Oh and nothing was worse than the kid showing up with o-pee-chee (we-Be-cheap) cards...unless they are hockey go away...

Ebay has them going for like $1.99-$9.99, and those are in the package. Mine are out, and played with

Have many sets....some of the better cards I have are 2 Gretzky rookies, McGwire, griffey, clemens and bonds rookies...and a ton of pretty decent inserts. Probably 100,000 commons...mostly hockey.

About 100 starting lineups and my favorites...the McFarlane NHL figures....the first 7 series. Great detail.

That and about 20 signed 8x10s and pucks.

Probably all worth shit now.

I have a few. Couple of complete sets from the late 70's/early 80's. A few weird ones too, like a jumbo oversize "legends of the game" set and complete Kellogs 3-D set from the late 70's. Of course lots of Dodgers like Koufax, Drysdale, etc. in addition to more recent ones.

Unrelated to baseball, but I have a famous serial killer complete set that were made right after O.J.'s trial.

i think the 88 topps over over 700 cards goes for less than 5 bucks. I have like 100 sets in my basement.

just asked my dad for info:

mlb made the decision to go with just one company exclusively (TOPPS). All the other companies which i think is only Upper Deck now, cannot purchase rights to mlb teams. Upper Deck is likely to take legal action as this will surely put them out of business. Hard to stay afloat being just the exclusive retailer of nhl cards.

While I watched the games today I went through a few boxes of cards and threw away about 90% of them.

My brother had about 40 cards that were worth in the $30-$50 range back in 1991-95 when he got them.
I was at Borders, and was going to buy the Beckett book or whatever, but it was like $44.99 which was nuts.

My former boss has nearly 500 Starting Lineup action figures still in mint condition. If memory serves, he has about an equal number from each major sport. He planned to use them to finance his kids' college education.

Are these things still worth any real money? Nothing would please me more than to find out he spent so much time and money stockpiling these things only to see them plummet in value.

Starting Line Up's on ebay (http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A16%257C66%253A2%257C39%253 A1&_nkw=starting+line+up&_fcid=1&_ipg=200&_localstpos=01532&_sc=1&_sop=16&_stpos=01234&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&gbr=1)

Soooo there are like 400 of these things for sale...maybe 5 of them over $50 w/ bids and about 100 of them asking more than $150-1000 with no interest...I think they are like beanie babies...only worth what someone will pay and not a penny more

They're worth nothing...
Maybe you can get $10 for some, but who wants a (For example) Delino DeSheilds starting lineup?

Say you get $20 per figurine somehow, that's $10,000. Tell your former boss' kids to enjoy community college for a semester.

I have thousands of cards from the late 80's to early 90's. My best, by far, is a 1994 Upper Deck Collector's Choice A-Rod Rookie Card Gold Signature. Its been in a protective sleeve since I opened the package. :)

I'm going through ALL my cards now since this thread popped up.
Mine and my brother's...

He has a lot of cards in those thick plastic sleeve and THEN inside thicker plastic holders, so I've been looking up those prices online.
Most of them are between $12.00 and $3.00 according to "Beckett"

And then I find this A-Rod from 1994 that's worth like $205.00, just sitting in a bunch of shit players. Meanwhile he has Craig Biggio/Mike Piaaza cards basically in bulletproof glass that are worth $1.25

I've got about 150 cards that are worth, according to Beckett, about $6.00 each on average.

I'd take the $900 for all of them, but alas who is going to pay $4.50 for like a 1995 Jeff Bagwell. You'd have to sell it all as a whole, and probably for like $200

Mark Mcgwire, Jose Canseco 1988
Barry Bonds 1986 I think...I dunno but its from when he was a pirate.
Sammy Sosa 1995

Same here, I went to 2 local card shops the other day with about 40 cards which were priced on average at like $15.

Just hoping for even a "I'll give you $_____ for everything" and the guy was said that he had so much from the early 90s that he'll never sell as is, that he can't take anything else.

Of course I spent like $40 in the shop on pack after that, which are now in a box...
It's fun to buy the packs, open then, etc. Then 10 minute later you're thinking "What just happened, why did I spend $40 on that!?"
