Today's NY post has Cashman saying he always floats weatherballoons at other GM's 99% get shot of the sky... So who knows.. but if Stienbrenner wants this to happen..HE SHOULD JUST LET CASHMAN do his job and get the deal done...

I don't know what a-rod is thinking...he's really shaking things up with top ball clubs, the yanks are in serious shit with Boston who right now has the best in the al, and Baltimore who I think will be second with the yanks third.....if they obtain A-Rod (they do need hitting) there's going to be some high scoring games when top pitchers DON'T face the yanks...there banking on offense, didn't work with the NFL and won't work in Baseball...we will see

are you kidding me, there is no way you can say that the yankees are 3rd in anything. the season hasn't started and look at their lineup. they have a former all star at amost every position. and their pitcing is not that bad. their bullpen is much better last year. they could use a left handed pitcher or two but i think they are looking just fine.

Unless I overslept, they haven't even played any games yet this year, why is Boston the best? Who won the AL last year?:biggrinfl

what they lost in pitching they got back in big bats, and their pitching is not that bad (dosn't mean its good). the only thing that hurt the yanks was people wanting to be with their family... god i can't wait for baseball to start

Baltimore's starting rotation has one good starter--Sidney Ponson. The Yanks lost a couple of guys, but they got Brown and Vasquez to make up for it. They've got three top starters, maybe four if Contreras pitches the way he did towards the end of last year.

Boston added a top starter and a good closer, but they have two pissed off superstars in their locker room right now who both know they aren't really wanted anymore. Plus, their rotation last year was basically Pedro and hope for the bats on the other four days. Now, it's Schilling and Pedro and two so-so guys followed by a question mark.

If they make this deal, the Yanks will have one of the most patient lineups in baseball. Soriano is amazing, but he swings at nearly everything. Giambi, Sheffield, and A-Rod are all willing to take pitches. I'm not getting my hopes up until it's official, though.

I still think the Sox getting Schilling is going to put them over the top in the AL East. Or, at least bring them one step closer to taking the Yanks in the playoffs.

The Mets fucking blew it! Fucking Steve Phillips could have signed A-rod years ago, if he was not such a pussy.

It's sad to say, but I wish I was a Yankee fan.::hammer: :drunk:

if i remember right a rod messed up that deal. he wanted too much money and he wanted to be treated different then other players by having an office in the stadium and whatnot. texas gave it to him and look how that turned out.

MAVRIC305
02-15-2004, 04:49 PM
You have a valid point. Because, Texas sucks!

I do not think that was A-Rod asking for personal treatment. I think it was that scumbag Scott Boras. He is always asking for outlandish bullshit. I think the story would have played out a little different if the Mets made an offer. It would not have gotten to $252 million. He would have settled for at least $150 million if the Mets offered it. I think all that special treatment shit was the media blowing shit out of proportion. I still wish I had A-Rod at SS.

I am not going to sit here and bad mouth agents. If I were them I would be a prick too. As long as I am a millionaire.

But, you are right, Scott Boras is bad for the sport. The trades, the money, the bullshit, the truth is the agents ruin sports. They make it all about the money, and what the player deserves. It's all bullshit.

The truth is, they are playing a game, and making no less than $500,000 for doing so. It's ridiculous. I make $30,000, and I will most likely never make more than that. Play the game, and forget about the money. In my eyes a million dollars a year is all you need. I am happy with my money, and it is not even close to the sloth these players call a salary.

It was the Mets' fault for not signing A-Rod. The front office tried to put the blame on A-Rod by calling him a "24 and 1" player, meaninig he was extremely selfish. So how does he find his way to NY? By offering to switch positions, even though he's viewed by many as the best player in the game. That's not "24 and 1" behavior. The Mets blew it, so they tried to spin it the best way they could. Eventually, Boras got Texas to bid against themselves, which shows how smart their owner is. They probably could have shaved $5 million per year off the deal and still signed him. What's even better about all of this is that his deal led to Manny Ramirez getting overpaid at $20 million per year, which is a contract Boston would love to unload right now. Nothing ever works out for Boston.

A Rod is a different person now, he has all the money he can ever want, but he is missing one more thing... a ring. if he was to stay with Texas he would not have a chance to win. thats why he was willing to switch positions.... no other team could afford him and still be able to pay other players. plus part of his deal is going to have a link to his site on the yankees site.... yeah thats not special treatment.... but don't get me wrong i am glad as a yankee fan to see him in NY.

tysonpunchinguterus

A link to his site might be special treatment, but that was part of what the Union wanted because he's going to get less money due to deferred salary without interest. And really, a link to his site is hardly a major deal. It's not like he's getting his own jet for road trips.

I just want to know what the Yanks are thinking with the positioning. You have the number 1 player in baseball and the number 15 or 16 fielding SS in the league and you move the number 1 player???? If Jeter is half the leader they say he is he will move to third.

i would like to know the names of the people you have in front of jeter on your list of shortstops. have you ever watched a yankee playoff game. its simple the yankees didn't need a SS they needed a 3rd baseman. i agree that a rod is a better SS, there is no way you are going to make the captain of your team move. and a rod is not going to bitch about this because he knows his role, he is just one in 25 players on this team.
