Chicago Cubs file for Ch. 11 in Del.
Associated Press • October 12, 2009

WILMINGTON – The Chicago Cubs baseball team is seeking Chapter 11 protection, a step that will allow its corporate parent to hand the team to new owners.

The team filed for bankruptcy in Delaware on Monday. The move was anticipated as the Tribune Co. looks to complete an $845 million sale of the team, Wrigley Field and related properties to the family of billionaire Joe Ricketts.

Tribune, which also owns the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times, filed for bankruptcy protection in December, but the Cubs were not included in the filing. The team's brief stay in Chapter 11 is expected to protect the team's new owners from potential claims from Tribune creditors.

Ha ha shitty team in BK.

Exactly, they had to do this in order to sell the team.

Not news or fodder for anybody who follows baseball before October 1st.

Funny how everyone says the same thing about the Eagles...and the Sixers....and the Flyers. One championship and stupid Philadelphia fans go off the deep end.

And we have a winner.

The Cubs are one of the most storied and popular teams in baseball. Them doing well can only help the sport.

Of course the cubs are a great franchise with a fantastic park and rabid fans.
I thought we take shots at each other in the sports section
After years of having Philadelphia teams hated nationally, it's fun to take some shots.
Don't be so sensitive.

No one hates the Phillies (or Eagles). Just the fans. Hell, I'm pretty sure the Phillies fans have even earned some respect since they've gone through quite a few really bad years.

One of my best friends is a crazed Phillies/Eagles fan. I need to start recording our insult-laden conversations. I must admit, I stole quite a bit of material from Bill Burr during this year's NFL preseason discussion.

It's baseball. There should be no hatred for other teams (other then the fucking Yankees of course). As a Cubs fan with no post season...I'm pulling for my second favorite team (the Sillies) and hope they win it all.

As for football? Hatred is very much encouraged and a prerequisite against Dallas for any true Eagle fan (such as myself). : )

I just think it's silly for a fan of the first team to 10,000 losses to talk shit on any other team no matter what they do in a year or two.

I agree with one very big exception....it is perfectly acceptable to hate a division rival. For instance, I (a Cubs fan) hate everything about the St. Louis Cardinals organization. I respect their history and don't mind some of their players, but I will never pull for them as a team in the post-season.

I think these groups are completely justified in their hate:
Cubs/Cardinals
Phillies/Mets
Red Sox/Yankees
Every fan on earth/Joe Morgan and Tim McCarver
