I agree....ive played on ice for 20 years.. there are more opptunities on ice for young kids...i tried out for that pro beach hockey when i was in college, the one with the ramp behind the net and stuff... the guys who played in that league called it a joke and the only reason they played in it was to get chicks on the beach... ice is the way to go...if he is good enough of street the transistion to ice wont be bad then...

I have thought about switching him to ice, but there are many factors that prevent this. I only have my son every weekend, so he would have to join a league in the area his Mom lives in (which is a good 40 miles away)... and my ex-wife and her new husband would have to comitted to taking him to practices during the week as well.
My brother has his son in a ice hockey travel league, and he pushes his son hard to perform well in it. I think he said it cost him over $800 to get him in this advanced league, and I think all the pressure that is put on my nephew may be taking the fun out of the sport for him. My brother bought my son a pair of ice skates and I bought him a season pass for an ice rink that is right around the corner from my house. He skates well on ice as well, so he could make the tranfer to ice very easily.
I wonder if I add this expectation on him to succeed in ice hockey will take the fun out of it for him? In this rollerblade league he is the highest scoring player in the league. He is the one that every team tries to stop, but can't. He has fun, but I never pressure him to ever practice or take the sport too seriously.
Right now I am enjoying taking him to his game every Saturday (even though it is 40 miles away) it's worth the drive to hear all the other parents comments as he plays his game every week. You also see parents who take it very seriously and shout all kinds of things at their kids... and I can see how that adds stress to that family. I never want my son to feel that stress... he is very competative, and puts more stress on himself when his team doesn't play a great game. I usually just remind him to "just have fun" and "play your game"... "don't worry about anything else".
He's on top of his world right now... and I am going to just let him enjoy it! :cool3:
