I for one will not blame the game of hockey for this cheap shot. There is always that one cheap shot artist who can't wait for the right moment to land a legal crushing hit. If he would have broken this man's neck on a legal hit, I would not have one bad thing to say about Bertuzzi, but that is not the case. He may have ended a career with that cowardly shit. Suspend him for a year, or let him play for no pay for two years. I would give him that choice.
Why? I'll explain...
It is not fair to the fans of Vancouver that were able to see him play and play well for this whole season, and now one of the league's highest scorers could be gone from the team. I know it is deserved, but i just feel there is a better way for him to pay his debt than going in hiding for a year.

total cheap shop!! hit him from behind?!?!? drove his face into the ice?!?! c'mon!!
plus it was premeditated. like 2 weeks ago the guy who got hit (i forget his name) took out one of burtuzzi's teammates, gave him a concussion, not sure if it was cheap but burtuzzi aparently didn't like it.
i would definitly fne him!! and suspend him for as long as his victim is out. and say his victim can't come back from his vertebrate injury, then burtuzzi can't come back. they should also force him to cut his hockey mullet:loll2: .
funny thing is that burtuzzi was a teammate of donald brozier(sp?) when mcsorely wacked him with a stick from behind a few years back. back then he said that it was terrible and does not belong in hockey. times change huh? tool.

actually no he wasnt. Bertuzzi played for the new york islanders which was his first team from 95 to the middle of the 97-98 season before being traded to vancouver and has been there since then. Brashear played for the Toronto Maple Leafs when McSorely to the swing at his head.

Uhhh.... actually they were teammates when brashear was knocked out by mcsorley. Brashear never played for Toronto, he did play for Montreal. Even though there are only 2 of them, I think that you got your canadian hockey teams mixed up :loll2:
Here's both of their career pages from ESPN. Brash was knocked out in Feb. 2000

Wacks right. The hit was in 2000. Brashear and Bertuzzi were both Canucks at the time.
I watched the game on TiVo (it was on too late for us to watch it real-time), and it was a total cheap shot. Moore did NOT deserve it. The initial hit on Naslund that got VC's panties in a wad was ruled a CLEAN HIT by the NHL, so the VC crybabies put a bounty out on Moores head, and this is the result of it. And the f'ers didn't have the balls to seek vengeance in the game following the Naslund hit, because it wasnt on their home ice, and they knew they wouldnt have left the arena standing had they pulled that crap in CO.
They were also being babies because first thing in the first period, Cooke and Moore went at it. Moore pretty much won, but that should have been the end of that. Moore fought them, case closed.
Bert should get suspended at LEAST for the rest of this year, if not for a full year.

To me, anytime you punch someone from behind it's a cheapshot. Stand face to face and duke it out.

As if the punch wasn't bad enough, drillin him into the
ice like that cold (no pun intended). He definately needs
time off for the hit.

He's out for the rest of the season + playoffs. And he forfeits a minimum of $500K for the incident, and Van Couver got charged $250K.
Plus, his eligibility will be reviewed by Bettman at the start of next year.
Fitting punishment. I hope Moore makes it back on ice before Bert tho.

You know what really pisses me off, is the media playing this shit up. Now, instead of just blaming Marc Crawford and Bertuzzi, they blame the NHL, and claim how it's a barbaric sport. These people don't realize the finess it takes to play the game. I just find it funny that these people who claim it's such a bad sport, have forgotten that, in baseball, why does a pitcher like Roger Clemens get bitched at for head hunting someone? What about football where there's like a fight a game? I won't even address basketball.

I know its an old thread, but my husband and I were at the Avs/Kings game on Monday, the 29th, which was Moore's first public appearance since the hit. He looked really good, all things considered, and he got a 5 minute (at least) standing ovation from the crowd... Even Kings fans were standing and cheering. Really powerful moment.
