quick question for everyone, after listening to hours upon hours of OA'. the question of their ratings versus others, i have to ask, what does the ratings number mean? i understood the demographics discussion but what do the actual numbers mean, i remember one particular discussion where they said they had a 1.1 which they said was bad, but what makes it bad, guess im asking the math behind it? and where can one find this info online?

The way I understand it, is that the share (i.e. 6.5 share) represents the percentage of listners who are tuned to the station during a particular time slot. It is not based on population but on the percentage of those people that would have their radio turned on. So a 6.5 share (6.5% of the radio's turned on) in a 3-7 time slot would reach a hell of a lot more people than a 9 share (9% but less listeners) in a midnight-4am slot.

It's also based on quarter of a hour.. so 6.5% is the percentage of people listening in any 1 quarter of an hour.
Some demographics are more lucrative to advertisers too.
Male 18-34 is the most sought after because the large companies like Car companies and beer companies will want to advertise more to that group, instead of lets say women 65-100. Which isn't as lucrative.
