Even before O&A, I was thinking of getting satellite radio. But I don't want to get hooked up and find out they went to the other company. I think I've been hearing XM more, but still not sure.

Any ideas?

It looks like Sirius, but I'm waiting a little longer.

I went out and got Sirius cause I was 1) bored with regular radio, 2) I know a spin jockey on #19 Buzzsaw, and 3) if O&A do go to sat radio Sirius looks like the logical choice.

The funny thing is I wrote this down. On the May 21 or 22 show Opie stated that sat. radio would NEVER last and they only used the XM advertisements because they payed the show alot of money. I can't wait to call in and see what he thinks of that comment.

Be careful of the words you say,
Keep them soft and sweet,
You never know from day to day,
Which one's you'll have to eat!

I seem to remember it differently... I think they were being sarcastic... They were pretty pissed about XM advertising on the show... The arguement given to them at the time was "Don't worry.... it's only available in new cars" I then remember ant saying... "Oh yeah... no one buys new cars anymore"

if that's a kenwood head unit, you dont need the plug and play.... just a tuner and an antenna.... the tuner should be FREE with the purchase of the head unit...

But he'll still need the plug-n-play if he wants to use it at home or in his other car . . . in which case he might have just wasted $170.

ok... here is what i am doing... i needed a new radio for my old car... the buttons didnt work on this one anymore...

http://www.jazzblue20th.com/96gl/96radio01.jpg

so i wanted a CD player that plays mp3's too... it is sirius ready, and i could have received a free sirus tuner with the purchase of the radio, and an antenna... i didnt want to be tied down to only listening in 1 car, since my commute in now only 10 minutes, and i want to be able to listen at work, at home, and in my new car, and only pay 1 subscription...

And if you have to buy two separate radios (the one in your car, and the plug-n-play you'll need for your home and the other car), what makes you think they'll let you use the same subscription on both? According to that logic, you could buy two radios, pay for one subscription, then sell the other radio to someone else and they wouldn't have to pay the subscription fee. That's why it doesn't work that way. You need a separate subscription for each separate tuner. It would have been cheaper to buy a regular radio and use the plug-n-play tuner with it.

well not really... the kenwood in my old car is "sirius ready"... but i am not using it that way... i can plug in any PnP (Sirius or XM) into the auxillary input, for which i already connected the adaptor... i bought that model because it had all the options that i needed, and it gets great FM reception...

OK . . . I thought you bought that one just for the Sirius-ready feature. In that case, good luck to ya! :xyxthumbs

2nd subscription is 6.99 a month

On a content wise topic: My husband bought a new truck this week (his Jeep had XM) and he went out and bought Sirius. He likes Sirius a lot better. He says the stations are better, the music selection is more varied and the station categories are more defined. And he's not an O&A fan (at all -- no matter how hard I try), so that did not influence his decision.

When I quit smoking ...in one week...I'm going to take those funds and buy Sirius..The only other issue is I will have approximately $290.00 per month left over.

I went to Best Buy this weekend too. And I looked at all the Sirius/XM stuff. I was wondering if using the antenna/FM transmitter for the signal would degrade the audio quality at all. I figure it'd have to, since CD-quality really doesn't work over FM the way it would come over satellite. That's fine for talk shows, but the music is awesome on the satellite services.

I'm definitely going to get the portable unit so I can listen at home and when I'm out fishing on the boat during the summer, which is one of the best O&A listening times. Plus, I have the compatible CD changer in the trunk for this headunit, so I don't want to change it. I'm not sure where to stick the portable screen in my car, though. If anyone else here has it, where you do you have yours? I was thinking that I could maybe remove the coin dispenser thingy from in between the seats and mount it in there somehow. I posted a couple images of my car's interior below. Maybe you could give me a couple tips... Thanks!

with the wireless FM modulator, your quality will be about the same as FM stations(close ones). for true digital quality, you'll need to change your headunit.... the difference is not tremendously noticable

as for where to mount... judging by the picture, i'm guessing you have a honda/acura product. if i remember correctly, there was a nice spot on the center console just behind your shifter

Ohh, I should've mentioned what kinda of car it is. It's actually a Saab, but actually the same kinda applies for my car. I was thinking of somehow mounting it behind the shifter. Does it mount with some kind of sticky thing like an EZ-Pass box, or do you have to screw anything in? I don't really want to have to drill holes into anything in the console.

the mouting bracket(identical to a TV bracket) has double sided 3M tape on it... no need to drill holes. i will post details IF o&a announce a return on sirius....

Thanks for the help rob! That will make it alot easier for me. I think I have a good space picked out. From what I saw in the store this weekend, it's not large at all really.

Might take a little $$$ to get started, but definitely will be worth it.
