O.K. SO FAR:
The first home game was great to watch as the Patriots players all came onto the field with the trophy. Kind of a "get your shit together sox look what we did.....again" It was cool seeing all the pats mingle and shake hands with the sox players...makes you realize how big some of theese ball players are when some looked more jacked up than some of the pats.
So the season is off to a good start for the sox so I decided to start this thread. Were missing Nomar and some other key players but have been doing allright. There was a great piece about how great a person and player Manny is. He's always being held down as "lazy" however his teamates have been trying to get the stupid Boston media to realize he's the first to get to the park and the last to leave........so nice job Millar for pointing that out.
Is this the year? Hey my answer is always yes! And this is the best team the sox have ever had so if it's not this year I say fire everybody and just simply start over. I'm serious get rid of Nomar, Manny, Pedro, etc, etc, etc, etc and start over.
I predict they will face the Yanks once again in the playoffs to determine who get's to the big game, however this time it won't be as close. Sox will only loose one game in that series and will win the World Series.
We will all see.............

Cool I like the cubs as well. I'm also a huge mets fan (yea I know it's painful)
Here's the thing though;
They put such a talented team on that field each and every season and they play there hearts out each and every game. This team is unreal this year as oppose to last. In addition David Ortiz hit the game winning home run recently and this is the very beginning of the season HOWEVER the players all gathered around home plate and as soon as he steped on home they celebrated like they just won a playoff game.
These guys don't talk shit and work there hearts out. They brag to other teams about how loud and aggressive there fans are and really understand how in New England (ny is the same i know) you have to win it all, the playoffs don't mean shit here. And when the pats came out the first home game at fenway with those suberbowl trophies I hope the sox players understood the point that the pats were trying to make. I saw it as "hey you don't do it all it just doesn't count" Im sick and tired of year after motherfukin' year they don't do it all. It took me a month to recover from that last game, and if it happens again this year.......I don't know but I'm not gonna be as big a fan or care as much next season.

Shortstop goes 2-for-3 for Pawtucket in rehab game

(Timothy D. Easley/AP) http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/trans.gifhttp://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/trans.gifIt didn't take long. In day two of his minor league rehab assignment, Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra rediscovered his stroke.
The two-time American League batting champ went 2-for-3 with a walk Monday afternoon. He again led off for Triple-A Pawtucket in a game at Louisville Slugger Field. He went 0-for-3 Sunday night in his first game since March 17.
Garciaparra, showing his traditional form, laced a single to right field to lead off the game. In the third, he again went after the first pitch and drilled a single up the middle.
"I took a lot of pitches today, which is good," quipped Garciaparra, who is a notorious first-ball hitter. "That was typical me. I went to right, which was good. I got a fastball [in the first at-bat] and a changeup [for the second hit] and I stayed on top of it."
Garciaparra has missed Boston's first 51 games because of tendinitis in his right Achilles. But his return to the lineup appears to be drawing near.
"It was good that it was a great day, it was warm," said Garciaparra. "I was able to loosen up and stretch, so that was nice. It [the injury] definitely didn't feel worse. It wasn't where I was going, 'Huh, am I going to have push through today to get two games?' Am I just forcing it?' There was none of that. I felt good. I woke up and my whole body was a little achy and sore just because it was a different feeling being in a game situation."
The plan now is for Garciaparra to take the next two days off and work with his physical therapist in Boston. He will then fly to Toledo, where Pawtucket opens a four-game series on Thursday.

He seemed open to remaining in Louisville for another game on Tuesday should the Red Sox have a change of heart. But he also understood why the team might still want to play it conservatively.
"I'll have two days to recover after two intense days," said Garciaparra, "then I'll go back out there. That's the plan right now. I'll see how I feel. I'll see how it goes."
He played five innings in the field, staying on his toes for more than 100 pitches. Garciaparra handled both of his chances cleanly.
"It was good because I have the next couple of days off anyway," said Garciaparra. "And it does make a difference to stay on your toes for 100 pitches. So I'm glad I was able to experience something like that and see the way it felt."
Though the Red Sox haven't announced a target date for his return to the active roster, it's certainly conceivable he could play in the team's next homestand, which opens on June 8 against the Padres. "Sitting on the sidelines all this time and watching, you kind of wonder how it feels to get back out there," he said. "It was nice to get those feelings back and enjoy myself."

BOSTON -- A tired, old matchup? Pedro Martinez, of course, must have been joking a few days ago when that was how he described his upcoming encounter with David Wells.
It was with similar wit that Martinez described himself and Wells as "two old goats."
With all due seriousness, Martinez and Wells engaged in a gem Tuesday night at Fenway Park. And much to the delight of the Red Sox -- not to mention the packed house of 35,205 -- it was Martinez emerging victorious.
In his finest performance of 2004, Martinez looked young again, downing the Padres in a 1-0 thriller. Backed by a 94 mph fastball and the rediscovery of the curve which abandoned him in his last start, the three-time Cy Young Award winner surrendered just two hits over eight shutout innings while striking out eight and walking one.
"He was fabulous," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona.
So was the Boston defense.
In the second inning, Johnny Damon went back to the wall and nearly had his face scraped by the grill area in center field, but he came up with the catch. In the third, after Martinez had put himself in a two-on, no-out jam, Manny Ramirez went racing to toward the corner to snare a drive by Sean Burroughs. And then, there was the nightly gem by shortstop Pokey Reese, who ended the fourth by ranging to the second base side of the diamond and robbing Jay Payton of a hit.
"That was probably the reason we ended up winning," said Martinez. "If those balls go through I'll probably get into a big jam."
Instead, he stifled the Padres throughout, improving his record to 6-3 and lowering his ERA to 3.98.
Keith Foulke retired the Padres in order in the ninth, earning his 12th save in 13 opportunities.
For a while, it looked as if Martinez's performance might not be enough for a win. The Boston bats were baffled by "Boomer" Wells.
But with Wells -- making his first appearance off the disabled list -- forced to come out after 81 pitches and 5 2/3 innings, the Sox mustered just enough against the San Diego bullpen.
Johnny Damon rifled a two-out, RBI double down the right-field line in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Gabe Kapler with the game's only run.
"I'm trying to pull my weight," Damon said. "I was the weak link on the team last year. I'm just trying to do my part."
Kapler got the rally started with a sky-scraping double off of Antonio Osuna that landed low off the Green Monster. Pinch-hitter Brian Daubach advanced Kapler to third with a flyout to right. Then Damon, facing Akinori Otsuka, nailed a 3-1 pitch for his fourth double in two games.
Damon was happy that Martinez's gem did not go to waste.
"You hate to waste a performance like that and we've wasted a couple of performances by our pitchers this year," said Damon. "Pedro was unhittable. I don't think too many teams would have a chance to get a run off him tonight. He was pretty awesome."
Wells wasn't too shabby either.
"David Wells was pretty good for a guy just coming off the DL," said Martinez. "He always battles hard. But it was fun to give the fans what they expect."
The Sox didn't have many chances against Wells, making them happy he no longer wears the Pinstripes.
"That was the best performance I've seen off David Wells in a long time," Damon said. "I commend him on his work and I'm glad we don't have to face him anymore."
Meanwhile, Martinez was in as good a rhythm as he's been in all season. He ended the first with back-to-back strikeouts against Brian Giles and Phil Nevin. The only hint of trouble came in the top of the third, when he hit Kerry Robinson and walked Khalil Greene with nobody out.
After Ramirez made his play in the corner, the inning ended with a strike-'em-out, throw-'em-out double play. As Robinson was caught stealing third, Mark Loretta whiffed on a heater from Martinez.
"Hey, Pedro's the best pitcher out there, man," said Ramirez. "What can I say? He's always tough against any hitter. He gave us an opportunity to win."
In his previous start, Martinez was pounded by the Angels for 11 hits and seven runs over five-plus innings. Instead of dwelling over that misfortune, Martinez did something about it, pouring over video and tweaking his mechanics during his side session in Kansas City.
The results were sparkling. Martinez thinks there might be even better performances to come.
"The way the weather is going right now and the way I'm feeling the last three outings, I don't see why not," he said. "I can learn from this one. I'm not going to sit back and relax and expect my next outing to be just like this one. I'm going to go to work even harder to try and improve and get even better." BOSTON -- The wait finally ended for Nomar Garciaparra and the rabid fans of the Red Sox. In the 58th game of the season, Nomar played.
Displaying the form of a two-time batting champion, the All-Star shortstop shook off the rust in his first at-bat of 2004, raking a ground single to left. He laced the ball hard in his next at-bat as well, lining a ball right at left fielder Terrence Long.

(Charles Krupa/AP) http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/trans.gifhttp://boston.redsox.mlb.com/images/trans.gifBOSTON -- In the hours preceding Friday night's contest against the Phillies, the Red Sox spoke a lot about the recent inability to mix all of their ingredients into a winning formula. But words are cheap without action.
So the Sox supplied a night full of strikingly effective action at Fenway Park, putting on a clinic in every facet of the game in a 12-1 rout over the Phillies. In the end, only rain could stop them, as the contest was halted by rain and lightning with one out in the bottom of the eighth.
In terms of the total package, the argument could be made that this was the finest game the Sox have played all season.
They rode brilliant pitching by ace Pedro Martinez, who went seven innings and allowed just two hits and one run to improve his record to 8-3.
They got a phenomenal night from star slugger Manny Ramirez, who smashed a homer and two doubles while driving in a season-high five runs.
They got their bats clicking while breaking out with a season-high eight runs in the sixth.
There was also strong defense -- Ramirez's brilliant catch in the corner in the seventh -- and aggressive baserunning -- Trot Nixon and Jason Varitek both seemingly willed themselves home in that sixth. "That was a nice crisp game," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona. "When you get good pitching, good defense, a lot of hitting ... it was a good night. A lot of good things happened tonight."

I don't mean to diss the team..but they are so erratic this year. 12-3 one day 1-11 the next. They don't seem to be jelling like they were last year. What happened to "Cowboy Up" ? :) <-----smilie

Cowboy Up left when Nomar sold his house last winter, I just hope we kick his ass out fast they don't need that kind of attitude right now.
I'm almost glad I missed so many games due to Comcast sucking ass crack::hammer:

Cowboy Up left with Grady. Francona appears to have done nothing for team unity. They got rid of a manager for making 1 mistake the whole season. They had a team that really shouldn't have gone anywhere and they did great.
Its time for Francona to step up.

I've been anti-Francona since day 1. He's a bench coach, not a manager.

Eh.. Shit happens.. I still love this team.. but what I wanna know is.. Do they really bealive there is a fucking curse? Bah.
Also I was listening to the news.. and Heard Randy Johnson might come to Boston.. then later on that day.. he said He wants to be traded to either the yankees or the cardinals.. Ya know its pretty bad when one of the best players doesnt want to go to our team.. Hell they wanted to give Nomar up for him.. Then again last year watching the series and shit.. I would worry when normar came up.. cause he fucked up some how.. and not even a gods prayer helped him.. I hate to say it cause I love the boston red sox with a passion.. But god damn this hurts and sucks.

Randy Johnson is a front-running ass-ef. He only wants to go to a team that he feels is definitely going make the playoffs. I understand that at his age he doesn't want to go somewhere that is rebuilding, but a true competitor would be willing to go to any team competing for a playoff spot and try to make the difference between missing the playoffs or not.

A-Rod/Varitek fight: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb_news.jsp?ymd=20040724&content_id=808613&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp
Varitek, A-Rod ejected after fight
Benches empty during third-inning fireworks
By Ian Browne / MLB.com
BOSTON -- The Red Sox-Yankees rivalry added yet another chapter of maximum intensity. The latest came on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park, when a bench-clearing fight evolved after Boston's Bronson Arroyo plunked Yankees star Alex Rodriguez in the left arm on a pitch in the top of the third inning.
The Yankees held a 3-0 lead and the bases had just become empty on a double play when Arroyo's third offering to A-Rod hit the third baseman.
Rodriguez was agitated as he began walking to first, and Jason Varitek followed him a few steps up the line. Then the pair exchanged words and then they shoved each other.
Varitek and Rodriguez both wound up being ejected after the umpires conferred.
Both benches emptied immediately after the Varitek and A-Rod shoving match. Yankees right-hander Tanyon Sturtze, who started the game for New York, emerged to the first base side of the field and was tackled by Boston outfielder Gabe Kapler. David Ortiz and Trot Nixon then joined the fracas with Sturtze, who emerged with his face bloodied.
Sturtze stayed in the game and took the mound for the bottom of the third. However, Sturtze didn't start the fourth and left the game after he suffered a bruised right pinky finger. He was taken for precautionary X-rays.
Doug Mirabelli replaced Varitek on the Boston side, and Enrique Wilson came on for Rodriguez.
The Red Sox and Yankees have engaged in acts of hostility before. The most memorable fight between the two teams came on May 20, 1976 at Yankee Stadium. That fight was started when Lou Piniella collided at home plate with Sox catcher Carlton Fisk.
In Game 3 of last October's American League Championship Series, Red Sox ace Pedro Martinez hit Karim Garcia on the back of the helmet, setting off several melees that day, though there were no punches thrown in that game.

How's Terry Francona looking now?
Going to say he is looking better. But I still think he hasn't figured his pitchers out. Seems like he is still leaving some in to long and taking others out while they are still pitching well. Worries me some heading into the playoffs.

UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE! What a fucking series! Who's going to crush the Sox' dream of a World Series this year? No Boone, but plenty of new faces to continue the curse. I think the Sox have run out of time, three straight is about where the buck stops. I do not think the Yankees are going to lose four straight. But, anything is possible in the playoffs.
Good luck to both teams.
I give mad respect to Boston for an excellent comeback. Unbelievable...
