I like that the Sox were behind him taking the day off to be sworn in. Good for him. I also think that almost being traded so readily has given him a different attitude. There has been a lot more effort on his part this year already.

Although I'm not a Democrat, I wouldn't mind seeing all high-profile immigrant professional athletes be placed on the fast-track to American citizenship. Imagine the tax bracket all of these guys are in. But in all, although I don't like the guy (he hit me up for a grand slam and a three-run homer yesterday in Playstation 2's MVP 2004 - but off Mussina, go figure), congrats to him. American citizenship is something that many of us take for granted every day but is still highly valued to persons across the globe. I'd be honored to fight alongside any person who values this country enough to make the concentrated effort to become a citizen of our blessed nation. Thanks, Manny. Welcome aboard.

They are already paying taxes into the system. I highly doubt guys making mutilple millions of dollars a year are like the day laborers on LONG ISLAND cutting lawns living 50 to a house. :) The gov't always makes sure it's get's it cut. But still good for him that he is offically a citizen now. When these guys defect from CUBA there are given citizenship anyway are political asylum from CUBA. You know if ELIAN Gonzalez was about 17, instead of 5, and could throw a wicked curve he would still be in the country.. probably pitching for the YANKEES. :)
