Plans and pictures were released today..I don't know what to think. Midtown is a horrible place for a stadium, IMO but it's about time they had their own place. Maybe it'll be cool.

I don't know but this place should be nice, stadiums these day's especially new ones are amazing........I remeber when the pats new stadium was built and all the hype, and then seeing it first hand= amazing
(however I wish the Giants could have a new stadium.....maybe they would win a few more games each season-----same with the mets:icon_sad: )

now this is something i've been waiting all my life for, not to mention, a story i was following from its inception. this is great news for all of NY.... finally a REAL NY football team
if i'm not mistaken, that part of the city is cluttered with warehouses.... not much going on there
NY, being a large city, is lacking heavily on convention space. NYC consistantly loses the large conventions to vegas, detroit, and mostly to jersey because we just dont have the facilities. this plan includes almost tripling the size of our convention space(it will be attached to the javitts center). the stadium itself will also be used as convention space.... along with a huge hotel just beside it(also attached to the complex) to handle the huge amount of people.
a rail hub will be built to provide transportation which will include the PATH train, NYC subways and possibility of LIRR. this will make the stadium MUCH easier to get to than giants stadium for the average NYer. instead of spending hours in traffic, you can get to the game by spending minutes on the train.
the only major downfall(for me) is there is no outdoor parking.... which means tailgating is out. however, i personally can live without the tailgating if it means bringing my JETS.... MY FUCKING JETS.... back to NY

If they do build this stadium there isn't going to be a parkinglot which means that there will be no tailgating and that sucks.

What an awful idea. Talk about putting a stadium in a place that can't handle the traffic or the increased traffic load. The only reason they are doing this is in the hope of getting the 2012 Olympics. Another awful idea. The necessary road construction will snarl the city for years.
there WILL be a parking lot.... underground though...
sounds like a terrorist target to me...

The construction would totally kill the city's traffic, but I am definitely for it....For tailgaters, I would see actually if you could tailgate across the river in Jersey at those parking lots and then just take the ferry over directly to the stadium.

ugh.... i'm disgusted with commercials i keep seeing about how the money is better spent giving to the needy and stuff.... if the needy had jobs, maybe they wouldnt be needy.... i guess these retards dont see the new jobs this stadium will create, not to mention make use of waste land on the west side

I'd be all for it if we could get the Mets in there too somehow. The Yanks gotta stay in the Bronx out of tradition, but it'd be cool to have a couple teams in Manhattan.
Only problem is that combination stadiums suck for the most part. I don't know how they do it now, but a few I've been to never had good views. I was at last year's World Series in Pro Player Stadium in Miami and you can tell it's not built for baseball even though I scored some awesome seats.

the jets respond to the negative advertising campaign.... apparently it wasnt some hippie group like i thought. the people trying to stop the stadium is cablevision.... owners of madison square garden
hey.... cablevision.... FUCK YOU.... the jets are coming home
An Open Letter to Jim Dolan
By Jay Cross, President New York Jets
Dear Jim,
I understand you plan to renovate Madison Square Garden. As your future neighbor, the New York Jets fully support you. We believe two world-class facilities in Manhattan would be better than one. If cities like Philadelphia, St. Louis and Houston can support two, so can New York.
Yet it appears you have reservations about the New York Sports and Convention Center. In fact, in just one month your company has spent more than $1 million on a disinformation campaign against this project. You've done this not as Jim Dolan or Cablevision, but under the guise of a contrived coalition . the New York Association for Better Choices.
Isn't it time you and I discussed the merits in public and let New Yorkers judge for themselves?
This would not be the first time we met regarding the sports and convention center. In the fall of 2002, we worked together to develop a new Madison Square Garden on the far West Side, combining an arena and a stadium to host the Knicks, Rangers and Jets in one facility. Your staff and I traveled to Japan to visit the only facility of this kind in the world. When we returned, the Jets offered to share the sports and convention center with a new Garden and let your organization operate it.
In January 2003, you ended our discussions. We respected your decision and told you the Jets planned to forge ahead with a stand-alone sports and convention center. You acknowledged that this facility would not be competitive with the Garden, but complementary. We parted with a firm handshake and your personal pledge of support.
But before long, you objected to an arena within the sports and convention center . the very arena born of our joint venture. Since we never intended to compete with the Garden, we removed the arena component and redesigned the facility. Without the arena component, the center will cater to crowds in excess of 40,000 while the Garden caters to crowds under 20,000 . two different markets.
Despite this concession, word soon surfaced you wanted more. You wanted us to remove the roof to ensure the sports and convention center could never pose a competitive threat to the Garden. Never mind that without a roof, the city and state would lose millions in annual tax revenue, the center would be used only 15 to 20 days a year because it could not host midsize conventions and the city would never attract the Super Bowl or the NCAA Final Four.
Although the Jets require only an open-air stadium to play football, the public rightfully expects much more . a showcase for the best of New York in a state-of-the-art convention and sports center. So, after more than 18 months of fruitless effort and endless compromise, when we realized Cablevision's real intent was to eliminate all threat of competition, we drew the line.
We are proud of the New York Sports and Convention Center. We stand ready to make the largest investment in a facility of its kind ever . $800 million . to realize that vision.
Your barrage of misleading advertisements serves only to undermine a meaningful discussion of the facts.
Let's publicly make our case directly to New Yorkers . as Cablevision and the New York Jets.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours truly,
Jay Cross, President New York Jets
