Glad I won't be here if he wins. Nice to see him do it,
but if Philly has a parade for him, that just really seems
like a sign of a town starved for a winner.:icon_razz

I'll be betting tomorrow. I won on smarty to win in the derby, about $100. Then I hit the $3 trifecta for the preakness, about $275. I'll be taking all trifectas again tomorrow (most involving smarty).

Philly has no right to have a parade on Broad Street. Smarty is based in Bucks County. If he wins, we're having a parade here. Woody the Wino can go F himself.

Well it didn't happen...and I'm kinda glad. I bet him in the Derby, and also hit the tri; but there was something about him I just didn't like. Maybe it was because I didn't want him to join Seattle Slew (one of my all-time favs) as the only horse to win the crown undefeated: but just like the Cubs....THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT YEAR!

actually there will be no next year for smarty...only 3yr old horses are allowed to run the races that make up the triple crown...he is being sold to a horse breeder for several mill and being put out to stud so he will be banging hot horse bitches for many years to come

Actually I meant we have next year to look forward to the possibility of another Triple Crown winner... (I've been a diehard railbird for 15 years, and I still believe we'll see a winner within the next 5 years). It shoulda been Silver Charm back in "97...:icon_conf

It's not like Birdstone is a nag or anything. Remember he did win the Champagne Stakes as a 2yr old.
Smarty Jones is the third straight Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, and sixth in the past eight years, to fall short in the 1 1/2-mile Belmont, the longest and most grueling of the three races.
His loss with the Triple on the line was the biggest surprise since 1979, when Spectacular Bid appeared to be a lock to win but finished third behind Coastal and Golden Act at odds of 3-10. Spectacular Bid moved too soon when jockey Ronnie Franklin got caught up in a speed duel with 85-1 long-shot Gallant Best.
This time, it might have been jockey Stewart Elliott who asked Smarty Jones to move too soon, with about a mile to go.
"When I peeked over and saw Birdstone," he said, "I thought we might be in trouble. He was coming pretty strong.'"

Actually, now that I watched the 11:00 news and saw that Philly had a "Smarty Party" down on the BFP, it is crystal clear. The Philly sports curse has manifested itself once again.

what if the birds or phils or whoever had there stadiums in the suburbs?? what, if the iggs win a bowl the parade should be in delaware county??

Actually Philadelphia Park is in Bensalem in Bucks County not the city. And I don't think you'll ever have to worry about where to have a parade for the Eagles.

Actually Philadelphia Park is in Bensalem in Bucks County not the city. yes i know that, i'm just saying that its PHIALDELPHIA PARK! not bucks county park....and did you miss the press conference when the trainer said smarty was a "philly horse"?
that being said, if he had won, i think it would be stupid to hold a parade (wherever) for a horse.

thats kinda like splitting hairs isn't it? he did race out of PHILADELPHIA park right?
what if the birds or phils or whoever had there stadiums in the suburbs?? what, if the iggs win a bowl the parade should be in delaware county??Well, it would make sense that if the Eagles had a stadium in Delaware County that the parade would somehow involve that location, wouldn't it? After all, the Phillies parade in '80 was in the stadium area, wasn't it?
The stir in the media over the whole thing seems to be based on the fact that the horseracing fans, not the bandwagon-hoppers wouldn't be caught dead on Broad Street for any reason.
Philly's dickhead senator Vince Fumo is the one fucking up the legislation which will allow slot machines at the racetrack. The tax revenue generated would provide some sorely-needed property tax relief up here. The fucking racetrack isn't in Philly, so he needs to keep out of it. That's the reason I am pissed off about any type of Philadelphia involvement and reject any claims that the city makes to the racetrack, which is the #1 taxpayer in Bensalem township.
