I just went to the dentist for the 1st time in 2 years. I hate the dentist. Everyone time I go I have something fucking wrong. I already have a filing or cap from a root canal in almost all of my back teeth. Today the dude found 10 fucking cavities. 2 of them are probably root canals. Hooray! I can't wait for that novocain needle. AHHHHH

I just brush 3 times a day and floss... no problems since i was 14. maybe it helps that I hardly ever eat sweets?

Thanks, sirius...you took the words right out of my mouth. if you went to the dentist/hygienist more often you might not have the problems youre experiencing now. what are your brushing habits like? do you ever floss? what are you eating, or drinking? are you taking any medications, do you smoke or drink alcohol excessively, do you ever have a dry mouth? a lot of the problems youre experiencing can usually be prevented with minor changes in nutrition/routine/lifestyle. it could also just be genetics. some people really do have weak enamel. ive seen people with layers of plaque and calculus (tartar) and FUR on their teeth, that i have to chip away to actually SEE their teeth and gums, they say they brush once a week if they remember, yet they have no cavities at all. and other people are scrupulous about how they care for their mouths and they are totally "bombed out", and theres just nothing you can do.

another thing to watch out for is how much sticky, starchy stuff you eat...bread and stuff like dried fruit is actually worse for your teeth than chocolate.

It's been about 4 years since I've been to a dentist. My dentist is usually pissed because I have no cavities.
The longest length of time without seeing a dentist was 18 years! This was because the last one I have seen in that time frame was a real butcher. He would make your gums bleed from a simple cleaning! When I finally went to the dentist, I had no cavities!

you can have cavities without any visible signs like the "black dots" you speak of. also,one thing people usually forget, or dont know, is that their mouths arent just composed of teeth- your teeth are held in your head by gum and BONE! you can have absolutely no cavities whatsoever and still have periodontal disease, which will cause you to lose your teeth. periodontal disease and the resulting bone loss is usually PAINLESS, and people thikn theyre ok, and often dont know they have it until its too late- they either finally go to the dentist for some reason, or their teeth just start to loosen and then FALL OUT.

They sent me home with OTC Motrin & Tylenol. I had stronger pain medication when I had my wisdom teeth removed.

Well, I can say FU to one less tooth today. Ever since I started this thread, I had 3 teeth that were drilled for cavities and filled (with the white filing - very nice). But today I had one that was either going to be a root canal or an extraction, depeding on how much tooth would be left. Well there wasn't dick left for the root canal. So we went with the cheaper yet much more painful extraction. It took over an hour to get all the pieces of the tooth out. The dentist was sweating when it was over. I got 9 shots of novacain throughout the procedure. Its a fucked up feeling when he's twisting your tooth to loosen it up. He broke out all kinds of crazy tools to get this fucker out. Any who, now I have a mouth full of blood and can't eat solid food until tomorrow. But I got perqs, who hohhhhh. yahhhhhh. ouch! :icon_mrgr :hamm:

Ah, man this thread is making me cringe. I've had problems since I was 16. I had perfect teeth before that. My brother had to have braces but my teeth were white and straight. Then one day I was playing ball. I was catching. The batter popped one up behind the plate, so I whipped off my mask and made a great catch. The batter got pissed and flung his bat, not aiming at me, just in frustration. It nailed me right in the teeth. There were shattered teeth and blood everywhere. The first thing my mother said was "Why you?! Why not your brother, his teeth are already messed up!!" Not exactly a self esteem builder for him.

Anyway, I spent the whole summer in the dentist chair getting root canals and various crowns, caps and bridges. They were supposed to be permenent but didn't last for shit. They would chip, break or just fall out after a while. Then three years ago I had all of that shit replaced with implants. It was painful as hell and my insurance only covered a fraction of it, so I financed the rest: $12,000. It was worth every penny. I finally have good teeth again. :icon_mrgr
