They suck. I'm glad I don't go to alot of stuff unless free tickets come my way. They are the sole ticket distributor for almost every event but they have the need to charge fees like they are some kind of middleman who has to pay someone else, and nobody seems willing to stop them.

Pearl Jam tried to stop them about 8 years ago. The problem is a simple lack of competition. Ticketmaster is partnered with Clear Channnel and sells tickets for all Clear Channel events. Clear Channel has exclusive contract with almost every major venue in the country. For example, if a band wants to play in Philly the would have to go use Clear Channel as the promoter to use The Linc, the Spectrum, the Wach Center, Citizens Bank Park, or the Tweeter Center. This is the problem Pearl Jam had, they couldn't find venues in the major cities that would allow enough of their fans to see them and they couldn't find ticket agencies that could handle ticket distribution. They also filed a lawsuit, but the courts ruled that because Clear Channel only had exclusive contracts with the major venues and not ALL the venues, there was no anti-trust violations. It's bullshit but until another major corporation jumps into the promotion game and has the money to compete with Clear Channel for these exclusive contracts, Ticketmaster will have us by the balls. Of course, if someone did jump in and compete with Clear Channel, there is no gaurantee that they will be any better.
