Symantec Debuts First Brightmail Product

By TechWeb News

Less than a week after it wrapped up the acquisition of Brightmail, Symantec on Monday rolled out the first product from its purchase, Symantec Brightmail Anti-Spam 6.0.

The update adds non-English language filters to sniff out foreign language spam, which accounts, claimed Symantec, for 10 to 20 percent of the world's junk mail. Version 6.0 can spot spam in any of 11 languages, and runs only those filters that apply to the content's tongue.

Anti-Spam 6.0 also includes new administrative tools, including a Web-based console that shows system and mail server status, and more granular filtering settings that let IT set anti-spam policies -- and retention policies for companies or departments obliged by regulations to store all e-mail -- globally, by group, or per user.

The software also offers URL filters that can identify spam based on Web URLs and the "mailto" URLs often included in messages to prevent users from replying to spammers. The update, said Symantec, can detect more URL masking techniques than before.

Brightmail Anti-Spam 6.0 is available now.

It's a spam filtering tool brought to you by a company a lot of people, (not including myself), seem to respect and adore.

If it's anything like the Symantec products I have used 4 years ago, it should cluster-fuck your system so you will have to reformat your hard drive in no time.

The best product this company ever made was a DOS program called Q&A, it was a word processor / database program that I still miss `till this day.
The database program was far better than M$ Access ever was.
