Better late than never, I guess.
2 games over .500, 2 games out of first place. They're actually ahead of where I figured they'd be this year. Wiggy's doing well, Reyes is finally healthy, we just need some relief pitching. (and Franco to stay in the bullpen..playing cards.)
Let's Go Mets!!

Hey, a Mets thread! I've been posting in the Phillies thread, carefully trying not to offend anyone. Now I think I can safely say the Phillies suck! :haha7:
I'm proud of the way the Mets have played this year, but I'm really hoping they don't trade Wright or any of their blue-chip pitching prospects for Johnson or anyone else. I just don't think they'll be able to hang on, and even if they do, they need those young arms since Leiter and Glavine are both pushing 60. Stick with the plan...

You can call this wishful thinking, but I think they are either going to trade Wigginton, or Wright along with others for Randy Johnson. I think the Mets have the prospects the Yankees do not to get this deal done. I just hope Duquette gives an all out effort to acquire Johnson.
As for this series against the Phillies, it's a must that we win at least 3 out of 4. If we split our momentum will not be as great going into a series against the Marlins. We have to go into that series on a high, or even in first.
SpotcheckBilly
07-15-2004, 09:10 PM
They do have the prospects..the Yanks would have to pull off a 3-way deal, just to swing it..they have decimated their farm system. Boston is in the same boat. I still think he'll go to Anaheim, but we'll see.

Atlanta & Philly tied for first. The Mets need to take the next three. I hope Atlanta drops a couple, along with the Marlins. Wiggy is finding a way to come through lately. Piazza drew a walk, I guess that's the best he could do right now. He is in a terrible slump, it's pretty sad. I'll take the win...

the mets are playing some great baseball... while i am a yankee fan i am more a baseball fan and any game that is on tv i am going to watch... i think more people from ny have to put aside the stupid yanks/mets rivalary (i stink and can't spell, plus i am drunk... much less gooder spelling). the only time i root against the mets is when they are face to face with the yanks... and even this year i was hoping the mets could grab a few games (but not fucking sweep... good job guys) from the yanks... i hope this thread grows to some great baseball talk... if it dose you will see more and more post from this drunken baseball fan

There is nothing wrong with wishful thinking! We had swept them earlier this season, it is not like it was an impossible feat. They just got the better of us in those two games. We got em' today!
Also, If we can sweep the Yankees anything is possible!:haha7:

The Mets eased the logjam on the their bench Monday afternoon and at the same time added bullpen depth when they traded outfielder Karim Garcia to Baltimore for right-handed setup man Mike DeJean.
DeJean, who is 0-5 with a 6.13 ERA in 37 games this year, went 4-7 with a 4.87 ERA with 18 saves in 58 games with the Milwaukee Brewers last season. He was acquired by St. Louis on August 22nd and was 1-1 with a 4.00 ERA and one save in 18 contests.
"Mike will bring experience and depth to our bullpen," said Mets General Manager Jim Duquette. "He has had success in the National League and has the savvy of pitching well in close games."

Heart-breaking game tonight. We finally got to Dantrell Willis and the bullpen and our inconsistent defense ruined it, again. Erickson pitched well and deserved the win.
Honestly, I am not blaming the players for this loss. I think the game was over-managed by Howe. He had a shift on against Miguel Cabrera which made it possible for him to hit the game tying hit up the middle. That should have been a double play ball right to Matsui. He definitely had him playing in the hole instead of straight up. There was something wrong with Matsui not being able to get to that ball.
Oh yeah, FUCK!

Boy, everyone sure cleared out of here in a hurry...I've resorted to quoting myself. And as I said, it's over. 3-7 homestand. They needed to go 8-2 to convince me they wanted it. This team isn't going to win this year. I really hope they don't bother trading for Benson. The media will lynch them for it, but they've been playing above their heads all year. The only reason they were in it is that the Phillies suck so much. Looks like the Braves are going to take command like they always do. In my opinion, they should play the kids, hold the prospects, and wait 'till next year.

MAVRIC305
07-30-2004, 10:07 PM
Not only Zambrano, but a young "Greg Maddox" in Kris Benson. I love that they pulled this trade off. It is the best thing they could have done. They gave up Scott Kazmir for Zambrano, but gained a 29 year old with Benson. We are not giving up too much future with that trade. I think we will sign Benson at years end, so Mets fans should be happy.
As for this year, we cannot lose tonight. If we do, we are in a huge hole in a division that blows monkey ass. Our bats better wake up fast. PIAZZA HAS GOT TO GET OFF THE SCHNIDE! HE IS KILLING US! THIS TEAM LIVES AND DIES WITH HIS BAT!
And, we will miss ya Ty. Thanks for all the effort.
I'm liking DeJean and Wright more and more. I haven't given up on the Amazin's yet ( I never do- even when it's statistically impossible, I still have hope). But switching back and forth between Yankees, Mets and Tyson last night, I've come to the conclusion that Jeter is an amazing Athelete and we need someone like that on the Mets. I fucking hate that man.

As for the Mets.... Nine games out, with less than two months to go..... We better wake up starting tomorrow. We need to sweep the Brewers and take 2 of 3, or more from maybe the best team in baseball. We swept the best team in baseball in June, let's see if we can do it again. If we cannot win 5 of the next 6, we are all but fucked. Unless of course the Braves drop 10 straight.
This may be the last time I post this on the board:

I like to throw people off and root for the Mets even when they aren't playing. Gives them a head start on rootings for the next season. I can't believe I can't watch Leiter pitching. I'm so pissed. At least I got to rag someone today on Nomahh being a Cubbie.

Howe about Dykstra next?
BY ADAM RUBIN
DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER
Lenny Dykstra with the Mets in '80s.
The Mets could reach to their glory days for Art Howe's successor. Team brass may consider pairing hard-nosed Lenny Dykstra, who serves as a consultant to Jim Duquette and Jeff Wilpon, with bench coach Larry Bowa to try to restore a swagger to the organization, according to sources.
"He's not going to accept losing," one Mets insider said.
Owner Fred Wilpon mentioned managerial experience as a criterion for the next skipper, but Duquette said the organization will "maintain flexibility" when identifying candidates. http://www.nydailynews.com/ips_rich_content/529-dykstra.JPG

Mets: Leiter files for free agency
by Fanball Staff - Fanball.com
Saturday, November 6, 2004
News
Al Leiter has forced the Mets' hand by filing provisionally for free agency. By doing so, the Mets have until November 15 to either exercise a $10 million option on Leither for next season or pay him a $2 million buyout.
Views
It appears as if the Mets want to bring Leiter back, and Leiter's agent has had talks with Mets General Manater omar Minaya, according to published reports. The two sides are likely to hammer out a new deal once the Mets decide that they want the lefthander back. Leiter went just 10-8, but did have a nice 3.21 ERA last season, so the 39-year-old still has some fantasy value.

11-06-2004, 01:56 PM
It's okay. He will most likely be back with the Mets. It seems Al wants to comeback and the Mets want him back, but 10 million is a huge price tag and not deserving. I think even Al knows that... Al wants to retire a Met, and obviously will be integral in the Mets Network starting in 2006.
