I don't think it's too early to start this up.
What an offseason....
No more Staley, Vincent, and Taylor. Enter in Owens and Kearse as free agents and the drafting of Andrews. Trotter now comes back. I can't remember a more exciting offseason.
Will this be the year that we get over the NFC Championship Game hump? I'm so pumped up and it's not even training camp yet.

It will be interesting to see what Trotter brings in training camp. He claims that his knee is 100%, others seem to think that he has lost a step. If he is close to the player that he was a few years ago, all of the sudden we have depth at what was probably our weakest position. Training camp will be very, very interesting.

Signing him at the vet minimum makes this a great move by the Eagles. He only will have upside salary-wise. He counts more against the Skins cap than the Eagles. :haha7:

I just cant wait to see McNabb have an actual receiver to throw to. Owens is going to open the offense wide open. Pinky and Fredy Hollywood are gonna look like top flight receivers now because everyone will be all over TO. I thought i was pumped last year but ive already fired off about a half dozen EAGLES chants already. At least Philly has one team that really wants to win and trys to put pieces in play to better themselves year after year.

So true Slap. Imagine if LJ blossoms into the kind of tight end that he appears to be and Andrews is the real deal?
We will have great run blocking for the explosiveness of Westbrook, to go along with Buckhalter who will probably be at his peak now.
2 backs who can catch out of the backfield and take it the distance.
A wideout that will take it to the house if you leave him with single coverage in TO. A blossoming star in Mitchell.
Oh yeah...and we have that QB who has gotten better year after year besides his injury plagued season last year.
This offense could be sick! :biggrinfl

Here's a good article from one of the best NFL men out there.
Reid's Eagles "keep pushing" ahead
By Pat Kirwan
NFL.com Senior Analyst
NFL.com senior analyst Pat Kirwan has begun his annual tour of training camps and will file columns from each stop. This installment comes from Lehigh University, where the Philadelphia Eagles train for the 2004 campaign.
LEHIGH, Pa. (Aug. 5, 2004) -- Let me first set the scene for you at Eagles camp. It is an already hot and humid morning. Lehigh University is a good hour ride or more for many diehard Eagles fans, and the parking lot resembles a game day. There are close to 10,000 fans, all in Eagles clothing, all geared up for a morning practice. The whole scene reminded me of the expectations for the Philadelphia franchise this year: Super Bowl or nothing.
With every pass thrown to Terrell Owens, the crowd would roar, and T.O. loved it. After practice when most of his new teammates were already showered and on their way to lunch, Owens was still out signing autographs and having his picture taken with fans. I know he's excited because during the practice, I watched the Eagles call six straight pass plays in a team period, and on all six he sprinted down field and cleared out the secondary to open up an underneath route for another receiver. In the old days, that might have infuriated him, but not at this practice. Later in the morning, he hooked up with Donovan McNabb a number of times against the inexperienced Eagles corners and it looked like a deadly combination.
As for the rest of the Eagles offense, there was lots to be impressed with, and an area or two for concern. Let's start up front with the offensive line. The Eagles have two 6-foot-7 tackles in Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan, which gives them the bookends most teams dream about. Inside, Hank Fraley is the blue-collar center who is a favorite of head coach Andy Reid. Jermane Mayberry, who can also play some tackle, has one guard spot, and rookie first-round pick Shawn Andrews, at 6-4 and 320 pounds, has the other spot. Every coach I spoke with before practice had something good to say about Andrews, so I spent a lot of time watching him work. He is a very good athlete who will make the offensive line one of the best in the NFL this year but he needs more work. In his one-on-one pass blocking, he worked against DT Corey Simon, and on the first rush Andrews got his hands on him, squared him up, dropped his weight and the rush was over on the spot. Andrews looked like an All Pro. On the next rush, Simon gave him a quick head fake and a change-of-direction rush, and Andrews missed him completely and ended up blocking air as Simon was in the backfield. What impressed me most as it happened was how Andrews handled the situation. No hanging his head, no immature outburst, just eyes on his coach listening to what he did wrong and going to the sideline to work on the instructions. He will be a great one sooner rather than later http://www.nfl-fans.com/html/emoticons/buttrock.gif .
The Eagles receivers have always been thought of as an average to below-average group, and that has changed with the addition of Owens. I must report that T.O. isn't the only area of improvement; Freddie Mitchell finished strong last season and Todd Pinkston looked very good in practice. I suspect both will have over 40 receptions as the No. 2 and No. 3 receivers, respectively. The other receiving dimension that is ready to explode is tight end L.J. Smith. He is a vertical threat at 250 pounds, and with the new emphasis on pass interference, he could become a very dangerous threat -- especially in the red zone.
The running backs concern me as I watched the short-yardage/goal-line live drill. Correll Buckhalter didn't participate on this day and the offensive coaches were quick to point out he will be in there come game time. But there really isn't another inside pounder who can get the tough yards and move the chains. The defense dominated the Eagles' short-yardage run game and it's not the best place to feature the talents of Brian Westbrook. As I stood there, I couldn't help but think how much a guy like the Raiders' Zack Crockett would fit nicely. Crockett only rushed for 145 yards last year but he scored seven times in the goal-line run package. The Eagles have the cap space to pick up a guy like that late in August after the last cuts if one should appear.
The Eagles offense in the open field or in the two-minute situation is ready to go with what appears to be some extended use of the shotgun formation. Based on what I saw in practice, they will give real problems for every opponent. Let's not forget about the 240-pound McNabb, who is a tremendous running threat and already has 2,237 yards and 17 touchdowns in his five-year career. The Eagles would prefer to keep him in the pocket but they have very capable backup quarterbacks in Jeff Blake and Koy Detmer, and more importantly, McNabb is not going to leave anything on the table this year to win a Super Bowl. As good as the Eagles defense is, when Donovan took off in practice, he gained yardage in big chunks.
As for the defense, coordinator Jim Johnson is already in midseason form. During one team period, every linebacker, nickelback and safety blitzed at least once. He has the athletes up front to look like they're rushing and then drop into coverage while the others blitz in his "fire-zone scheme." Jevon Kearse was very impressive all practice, chasing run plays down from behind when the offense tried to run away from him. He also held up well when Runyan blocked him and the run game came right at him. Defensive tackle Darwin Walker sat out practice but Hollis Thomas clogged up the middle and Simon was very disruptive in the live team periods. A key player on the Eagles defense will be N.D. Kalu, who is listed as a defensive end but can line up as a linebacker and quickly turn the Eagles package into a 3-4 front, especially in nickel and dime packages. Philly has five linebackers who can start in the NFL with Mark Simoneau, Jeremiah Trotter, Nate Wayne, Dhani Jones and Ike Reese all practicing well. I was very impressed with how quickly Simoneau can key and diagnose plays. Coach Johnson can't play them all but I'm sure the special teams coach, John Harbaugh, is happy to have that many quality players to work with this year.
Everyone at practice wanted to point to the cornerbacks as the weakness of the team. Philadelphia isn't playing a lot of press man coverage, which Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent excelled at in earlier years when they were healthy. Sure, Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown have just 12 career starts between them and it's easy to point at them as a liability. The safeties, Michael Lewis and Brian Dawkins, are excellent; the Eagles will get pressure on the quarterback and the scheme will help them. As I reminded one observer on the sideline at practice, the Panthers almost won the Super Bowl with Ricky Manning and Reggie Howard on the field at cornerback. What struck me at practice was how much quality work the young Eagles corners were getting going up against Owens.
It's common knowledge that the Eagles have one goal this season, and that's getting to Jacksonville to play in the Super Bowl. It's a realistic one. Everyone also knows they have upwards of six or seven Pro Bowl players on their roster. But what I walked away from practice with was the core of backup utility players that make the depth on this roster exceptional. In addition, they have no real contract situations for 2005 and they already have 11 picks in next spring's draft. As long as they've been humming into the playoffs, this team could stay at the top for a while longer yet.
I said to Reid after practice that I was very impressed with his team and how hard they worked for two-and-a-half hours and he just stared at me and said, "We just have to keep pushing." If they do what he tells them, they will make it to Jacksonville in February.

Well we signed Levens again. If he's in good shape I think it's a good move. I don't think the Giants gave him enough of a chance last year. He did well against the Eagles.
The link for this went down but here's the story:
Dorsey Levens signs with Eagles
By Bob Brookover
Inquirer Staff Writer
The Eagles have reached into their past to fill their need for another running back.
Hadley Engelhard, the agent for Dorsey Levens, said this afternoon that his client had agreed to a one-year deal with the Eagles and was scheduled to board a flight tonight and be at practice with the team tomorrow at the NovaCare Complex.
"We had been talking to the Eagles even before this," Engelhard said. "Dorsey has obviously played there before and he's very excited to be coming back."
Ththe Eagles plan to make the official announcement tomorrow after Levens passes a physical.
Engelhard said he heard from the Eagles "soon after" Correll Buckhalter went down Friday night with a season-ending knee injury against the Baltimore Ravens.
Though the Eagles did not announce the acquisition of Levens, coach Andy Reid did say this afternoon that the team planned to bring in another back to fill the void left by Buckhalter's injury.
It is not clear where Levens will land on the depth chart, but he will likely be in a rotation with Brian Westbrook and Reno Mahe.
Levens, 34, played the 2002 season with the Eagles after spending his first eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers. In his only season with the Eagles, Levens rushed for 411 yards and a touchdown on 75 carries and caught 19 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown.
He dressed for 11 games last season with the Giants and saw little playing time, carrying 68 times for 197 yards and catching five passes for 39 yards. His most productive game was against the Eagles when he ran 16 times for 64 yards.
Earlier this month, Levens had talked with the Miami Dolphins after running back Ricky Williams announced his sudden retirement.

Not nessecarily...
I think that with all of the injuries they had last year that he would have been on the field too much and wouldn't have been as good as a lot of people think he was...
Other than play 16 games He did NOTHING in Jacksonville last year. He's not a full time player any more...
As long as he doesn't have to play too much i like the signing, because it gives them a little more depth at end, but if he's going to play 75 - 80% of the time i think that he'll be useless when we need him the most...

I wish that we didn't have to let Kori Dickerson go. He showed so much. If Bartrum wasn't the best long snapper in the NFL, he would have stayed.
I also hate seeing McCoo go. He's a local guy here.

I am soooooooo amped for today's game. With TO and Jevon on the team with no more Duuuuuuuuce, Troy, or Bobby, it's almost like a whole new team. If the Eagles are going to be a dominant team this year, games like this are the ones they need to make blowouts.
I'm interested in how many catches and yards TO gets, as well as how much pressure Jevon puts on Warner against that weak Giants offensive line.
Kinda hard to get a feel about this game since both teams will be much different than last year but I'm guessing it will be around 27-17 Eagles.

I'm really pysched for this game too. My father's a Steelers fan, so this one is extra special for me. It has the makings of a classic. It looks like Westbrook probably won't play which will hurt us like it did on Sunday, but we should be able to throw on them. We must stop Duce on first & second downs, and let JJ pressure Roth with looks he's never seen before.

How much they use Westbrook will be interesting. He doesn't need many touches to be effective. The Steelers would be tough to run against even with him 100% healthy, but his receiving out of the backfield will be big. I don't know if anyone from Pittsburgh can stop TO, but then again the size of Burress and Ward will give the Steelers a big advantage too.

I love the fact that the NFL changed their broadcast guidlines for the NFL. Previous years we got all the Jets games if CBS wasn't blacked out. Now we get all the Steelers games (so far) all year. But a big part of central PA got blocked into the Baltimore market and have to watch Raven's games instead of Steelers games. The TV station and the fans are furious so there will probably be another change next year. I just hope we don't end up with the Ravens.

I just think we shouldn't have risked major injuries when we;ve accomplished so much so far and still have so much to accomplish. As for the scoring, the Eagles are a different team this year. We have outscored our opponents in all 4 quarters so far. I would not call that slow starts.
1st quarter- 86 to 40
2nd qtr- 112 to 56
3rd quarter 69 to 20
4th quarter- 70 to 65
Except for Cleveland most of those 4th qtr scores were garbage points and I think most would agree that this was not the same Brett Favre that you were referring to. Also, why would Andy keep in Donovan longer than Favre stayed in the game?

Well, here's the quote from wide body himself:
A couple of years ago, we had a game at Tennessee where it started
off with us up by 21 points and we lost in the 2nd half. I took full responsibility for that
because I pulled in the reins and they came back and kicked our tail. We kind of made
a pact with each other that we wouldn't do that and that we would keep the pedal
to the metal if possible

Well, here's the quote from wide body himself:
I have no problem with him leaving the starters in there as long as he did, but continuing to have them throw the ball when your up by 35 is wrong...
I understand that Big Red doesn't like to run a lot, but I think that you NEED to run sometimes and I just hope that they can do it when it counts. I just think that if your going to leave your starters in and throw like that your just asking for trouble...
Now if you have your 2nd team in the game, I think that you still call the game the same way, because you'll never know when they'll be pressed into action, so they gotta stay sharp. Its not our problem if our 2nd teamers are better than your starters...

I'm not an Iggles fan, but Pinky did chose the worst possible moment to turn into a pussy. Somebody on that team better slap him around to wake him up.He's always been a pussy. He's only effective on the sidelines when there are no big bad safeties to scare him. That said, he can still be effective as a #2, but he is no way a number 1. He can't carry us now without TO.
On offense we need:
-Mitchell to actually fucking catch the ball. He's seemingly always open.
-Keep Westbrook splitting out wide and creating mismatch problems. It opens ups others.
-Use more LJ than Chad without TO. LJ stretches the defense more than Chad can.
-McNabb to run more when the hole is there. This year he has held back because he knew someone would be open. Without TO disrupting the defenses, it won't happen as much. Run, Donnie, run!
-The offensive line needs to continue the good pass blocking, but at the same time create more of a push in the run blocking. It's been a bit subpar recently.
-Big Red to not get conservative in the playoffs.
On defense we just need them to keep doing what they've been doing since Trot became a starter. His run stopping along with the excellent play by Dhani Jones in that area recently has set up the pass rush nice.
We can still make a lot of noise in the playoffs. Winning the Superbowl wasn't going to be easy even with TO since the AFC is the better conference, but we still can do it. I have confidence in the Birds still.

Getting there without TO is without a doubt good enough, especially if they play a healthy NE, Pitt, or possibly the colts (i just don't know if we can keep up with them on Offense). The thing is that you get there, and let the rest take care of itself. Who'd a thunk that the New England would have beaten the Rams a few years ago...

Police Say Man Scammed NFL Players Out Of Money
Man Allegedly Posed As NFL Players, Calling Other Players For Money
POSTED: 2:54 pm EST January 3, 2005
UPDATED: 3:20 pm EST January 3, 2005
A 19-year-old Maryland man faces charges for an alleged scam operation that bilked National Football League players out of money.
Howard County police charged Lewis Venson Sills, of Elkridge, Md., on multiple charges of theft and identity theft, as well as resisting arrest and assaulting police officers.
Police received a report last week about someone suspected of fraudulently soliciting money from NFL players. The man, who investigators later identified as Sills, allegedly called various players, posing as a friend or teammate. Authorities said Sills allegedly fabricated elaborate stories about being in need and requested that cash be wired to him.
Investigators said Sills posed as Washington Redskins player Laveranues Coles when he allegedly contacted Oakland Raiders player Warren Sapp last Tuesday. Police said Sills allegedly asked Sapp to wire him $1,800 in Elkridge.
Sapp contacted his financial manager, Jeff Rubin, and both were suspicious. Rubin contacted police and then wired $525 to "Laveranues Coles" at the Super Fresh store in Elkridge. While detectives waited outside, Sills entered the store, identified himself as Coles and took the money, police said.
Three Howard County police detectives approached Sills as he left the store. Authorities said Sills ran from the officers and resisted arrest when the detectives caught him. Authorities arrested and charged Sills with theft, identity theft, resisting arrest and assaulting officers.
Investigators learned of other, similar alleged cases involving Sills. They said Sills called former Washington Redskins player Darrell Green pretending to be Baltimore Ravens player Peter Boulware on Dec. 17. Acting as Boulware, police said Sills allegedly claimed to have a cousin named Lewis Sills and asked Green to wire $900 directly to Sills. Green believed the story and wired the cash, which Sills picked up at the Super Fresh store, according to police.
Then, police said, Sills called Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, allegedly posing as Washington Redskins player James Thrash on Dec. 22. Police said Sills asked McNabb to wire $600 to Elkridge and McNabb agreed. Sills posed as Thrash to pick up the money and signed Thrash's name on a transaction receipt.
In those two cases, Sills was charged with theft from Green and McNabb. He was charged with identity theft for posing as Boulware and Thrash. Police rearrested Sills at the Terrace Motel in Elkridge on Dec. 30 without incident.

I don't know what game you watched last year, but I thought that they played like shit had no business beatting the Packers in the Divisional Playoff. To refresh your memory, the Eagles were beat up pretty bad going into the Divisional Championship Game against a healtier Carolina Panthers team. The loss, while disappointing, was not as crushing as the previous year against Tampa. That was the game they should have won, because they OWNED Tampa the previous 4-5 times that they played.
This looks like a different team compared to the previous 3 incarnations of them. They are without a doubt more agressive on both sides of the ball. Barring any major injuries, I don't think that they lose another one at home this year...

My brother and I were discussing the same thing earlier today. No matter what happens there is going to be a huge reaction from the fans. I just hope most people don't do anything stupid.

Terrell Owens says his recovery is way ahead of schedule, surprising even his doctor.
Whether the All-Pro wide receiver will be healthy enough to play for the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl remains a mystery.
“What a lot of people don’t realize is that I’ve been doing a lot of rehab on my own, a lot of healing on my own, but spiritually God is healing me and I’m way ahead of where a lot of people expect me to be, even the doctor,” Owens said Monday. “He’s even shocked at what he’s seen. Spiritually I’ve been healed and I believe that I’ll be out there on that field Sunday, regardless of what anyone says.”
ok terrific, TO. go god! whatever it takes to get him playing in the big game.

eskin said today on 610 that TO was running in the practice bubble for like 45 minutes. he said he broke a mean sweat and everything. and quoted him as saying "and they said i couldnt do it" all loud and boisterous like.
he's going to start practicing next week and he's definately playing in the bowl.
