Terrorist Files Posted To Arkansas State FTP Server

By Benjamin Tomkins

An alleged member of Al Qaeda posted video ands audio files to an FTP server maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. Links to the files were posted to the Arabic language forum site of Ansar al-Sunnah, a resistance group that has claimed responsibility for several bombings in Iraq.

An alert on the Northeast Intelligence Network identifies the individual who posted the links as Terrorist 007, a self-proclaimed member of Al Qaueda's Mujahideen based in the U.S. The Northeast Intelligence Network, a division of Hagmann Investigative Services, is a private contingent of investigators dedicated investigating suspected terrorist activities.

State officials learned of the files on their FTP server through an anonymous tip according to Randy Ort, public affairs officer for the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. "Initially, we were first told that our Web site had been tampered with, but it hadn't been hacked," he says. "Then we looked at our FTP server and discovered a number of files that were foreign in nature."

Ort declined to comment on the nature of the files, but had been told that there were approximately 70 files with some reports placing the number at more than 100. The FTP server was taken offline and is now in possession of the FBI. The bureau field office in Little Rock, Ark. declined to comment.

The FTP server had been in use for eight years without incident and the department's Web site had not been hacked previously. Ort noted that the department is reviewing their security policies to prevent future incidents.

Terrorist 007 allegedly posted information to an FTP server at George Washington University in March 2004 according to an alert posted to the Northeast Intelligence Network site.
