The Dentist is reporting the news that Scottso (former 1027 WNEW DJ) has died. Seems like only yesterday he was broadcasting blackout news from the 'NEW roof!
I've been informed that Scott Muni passed away last night.
Scott had been steadily declining since his stroke. His family did not want it publicized so we've been sensitive to that on this forum. Since most of you are probably not aware that he was as sick as he was, this is probably quite a shock.
Condolences to his family, fans and friends.
As more info becomes available, I'm sure it will be posted.

NEW YORK -- Disc jockey Scott Muni, the gravelly-voiced radio host whose encyclopedic knowledge of rock 'n' roll made him "The Professor" to three generations of New York listeners, died Tuesday night. He was 74.
Muni, who spent nearly 50 years on air in the nation's No. 1 radio market, had suffered a stroke earlier this year. But the cause of his death was not immediately known, said Josefa Paganuzzi, spokeswoman for Clear Channel New York.
Muni's last gig was an hour-long afternoon show on New York classic rock station Q104.3, where he landed in 1998. He also hosted many nationally syndicated programs during his career, including "Scott Muni's World of Rock" and the Beatles-oriented "Ticket to Ride."
His acclaimed work and lifelong devotion to music eventually led to Muni's inclusion in an exhibit on radio personalities at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
Muni's voice was instantly recognizable, a low rumble announcing the latest tunes from the Beatles to Bruce Springsteen to Pearl Jam. As the program director at WNEW-FM, he was one of the leading acolytes of the freeform radio movement and became a major influence on the next wave of DJs.
Known to his listeners as "The Professor" or "Scottso," Muni was renowned for his interviews with artists like Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Pete Townsend and Bruce Springsteen.
In one of his more memorable encounters, Muni was speaking with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page when the musician suddenly collapsed to the floor in mid-sentence, wiped out by days of partying. The unflappable Muni simply put on a record, woke Page up, and conducted the rest of the interview with the guitarist lying on the studio floor.
Muni was a die-hard fan of Bob Dylan and the Beatles; after the December 1980 murder of John Lennon, the DJ began opening his shows with a Beatles song.
"I did it all," Muni once said when asked about the one thing he wanted to do before dying. "Some I did more than once."
Muni was born in Wichita, Kan., and raised in New Orleans. His broadcasting career started in the Marines, where he could be heard on "Radio Guam" reading "Dear John" letters sent to his fellow servicemen.
Back in the U.S., he replaced Alan Freed in Akron before arriving in New York City in the late '50s as one of WMCA-AM's "Good Guys," serving up Top 40 fare. He switched to rival WABC-AM in 1960, spending four years during the heart of Beatlemania.
But it was when he switched over to the new world of FM that Muni found his perfect place on the radio dial. He arrived at WNEW in 1967, helping create one of the nation's first and longest-lasting alternative stations.
In addition to his radio work, the distinctive Muni voice asked "How do you spell relief?" in a memorable Rolaids commercial; he also did promotional announcements for ABC's "Monday Night Football."
There was no immediate word on a memorial service, but Clear Channel-owned Q104.3 planned a weekend-long tribute to Muni featuring the music of the Beatles. He is survived by his second wife and five children.

Scottzo was great in his day (even though he had a creepy gay like attraction / obsession with The Beatles) but he did not know when to hang it up. One question......when Hoo Hoo looks in the mirror do you think he sees Scottzo ?
May Scottzo rest in peace. At least now he can give oral to Lennon everday in the world of death, or would that be heaven for him ? Cummin

Scott Muni, 74, a Radio D.J. of FM Rock Programming, Dies
By JON PARELES
http://graphics7.nytimes.com/images/misc/spacer.gif
Published: September 30, 2004
Scott Muni, a disc jockey whose deep, leisurely, fogbound voice was a regular companion to New York City rock fans for nearly 50 years, died on Tuesday in New York. He was 74 and had not returned to the air after suffering a stroke in January.
His death was confirmed by his son Mason Muņoz, who said he had recently had neurological, heart and lung problems.
Mr. Muni was a pioneer of FM radio in New York, breaking from the regimentation of Top 40 radio to introduce a free-form approach. "There was an extended period when my father let the D.J.'s play whatever they wanted to play," Mr. Muņoz said. Playing album tracks as well as singles, and speaking to the audience conversationally, Mr. Muni helped set the style for FM radio nationwide in the decades to come. But his calmly authoritative voice was always distinctive.
Mr. Muni was born in Wichita, Kan., and grew up in New Orleans. He joined the Marines in 1950 and began broadcasting during his service, reading "Dear John" letters on Radio Guam. When he returned to civilian life, he became the replacement for Alan Freed on WAKR in Akron, Ohio, in 1955, and he also worked in Kankakee, Ill., before moving to the Top 40 station WMCA in New York City. In 1960 he switched to the city's other Top 40 powerhouse, WABC-AM.
In the 1960's, the Federal Communications Commission ruled that radio stations could not broadcast the same content on both an AM and FM station. The result was to open up air time on the relatively undeveloped FM band, and rock programming moved in. In 1966, Mr. Muni joined the staff of the fledgling WOR-FM, New York's first commercial free-form radio station. The experiment lasted a few months. Mr. Muni and a fellow WOR-FM disc jockey, Rosko, were then hired by WNEW-FM. At WNEW-FM, the format, also known as progressive or underground radio, took hold.
Early in the 1970's, Mr. Muni became the program director at WNEW-FM, a job he kept through the decade. "Scott was the heart and soul of the place," said Dennis Elsas, who was hired by Mr. Muni and became WNEW-FM's music director; he is now a disc jockey at WFUV. "We were all kind of making it up as we went along."
Musicians were constant guests at the station. During one interview, Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin collapsed in mid-sentence; Mr. Muni played an album, revived the guitarist and finished the interview with Mr. Page lying on the floor. In another interview, Mr. Muni played cards on the air with members of the Grateful Dead.
In the early 1970's, a bank robber named Cat Olsen, who was holding hostages at a bank, demanded to speak to Mr. Muni and hear some Grateful Dead. He helped defuse the situation.
Mr. Muni took pride in introducing new music to listeners first. "We were very competitive," Mr. Elsas said. "He knew how to play the game but he loved all of it, and the musicians genuinely respected him." One of Mr. Muni's regular features, "Things From England," gave early exposure to British rock bands.
Mr. Muni broadcast on WNEW-FM until 1998, outlasting program directors who sometimes tried to oust him as the format grew increasingly regimented. His knowledge of music led to him being nicknamed the Professor. He moved to the classic-rock station WAXQ (Q104.3), where he opened each show with a Beatles song and continued to earn high ratings until his last broadcast there in January. He was also the host of syndicated radio shows like "Ticket to Ride" and "Scott Muni's World of Rock," and did occasional voice-over work, including a Rolaids commercial and announcements for ABC's "Monday Night Football."
He is survived by his wife, Jean Muni, and their daughters Tiffany and Melissa; by his children from his first marriage, Mason, Shane and Jennifer Muņoz; and one grandchild.

I'd guess so, after all Sirius had a special on Scottso on with some old WNEW DJs like Carol the Hag Miller. Sniffen's board has a big MP3 download of the tribute show... The first 2 guy DJs did a nice job, Carol's delivery is very poor, you can tell she's been reading liner cards for the last few years.
Allen Sniffen isn't all evil, (http://musicradio.computer.net/wwwboard/messages/243758.html) except he is known to ban people from his board if they disagree with his gospel.
