I set up my Roady home kit. By doing the 207 XM thing I can see that I get great reception on High Voltage and traffic channels above 200 from SAT1 and a terrestrial repeater. Under 5 on both on the BER% menu. When I change stations to Squizz and Lucy and others below channel 100, I get no reception from SAT1, but 0.0 on the terrestrial repeater. On Comedy 150, I get 50 on SAT1 and 0.0 on the terrestrial. So, I get great reception 200+, 50% on 100-200 on SAT1 and nothing 100 and below on SAT1. What is with that? Are they broadcasting at different frequencies? I don't understand satellite as much as cable tv for instance. I'm confused...

the xm network works like this:

you need the antenna to be pointing towards the southern sky, unobstructed. if you have a compass, whatever way south is, it should be pointing that way. the receiver antenna "sees" the satellite and if it doesn't have a clear view, it will have problems.

my advice is to hang the satellite out the window and have it taped to the window sill or anchored on a bracket. point the antenna's flat moveable part straight up. if you have a power screwdriver (a makita without the drilldo), measure the space between the mounting holes and anchor it to a stable object like wood or metal. make sure it's anchored where when it's fully extended, it looks like half of an uppercase T. then, poit it using the signal meter. You gotta have a clear viewof some of the southern sky.

XM breaks up the channels into blocks, but I don't remember how many blocks. That explains why you're getting channels in this range and not in that range. Obviously, the lower the BER %, the better off you'll be across all channels.

I use a car antennae in my house and at work. They are on the sill
inside the window and work very well.:icon_wink

Turn the unit off. Then hit 2 0 7 and the XM button. It will turn the unit on. THen hit the display button til you get to the BER display. I have it on the highest window ledge I have. I can't screw it into the wall because I live in an apt and they won't let me do it. I'm getting pretty good signal all around now, even behind a window. It's facing SSE. I don't have another choice. Thanks guys!

I get:

BER%

0.0 0.0 15.0 the last number constantly changes up and down from 6.? to 17.?

The signal is strong on the cheesy meter on the top.

You want one of the BER numbers to be under %5. The first number is the BER for satellite 1, the second is for satellite 2, and the third is for the repeater signals. As long as one of the three stays under %5, then you should keep a steady signal.
